With pretty much everyone on this board and hundreds across the internet getting ready to pick this game up the moment it's available, how well do you think this game is going to sell?
I'm really hoping it blows Madden to hell this year, not because I hate Madden or anything but because it will prove that major franchises can sell at $20 and be profitable.
This is an extremely important time for consumers because other companies will definitely be looking closely at what Sega is doing and may follow suit if they are successful.

it wont blow madden to hell, but madden wont sell nearly as well as in the past, mainly because of price and it's coming out so much earlier
there are many die hard madden fans though and that's why madden wont get blown to hell

Madden is garbage in my opinion. I know that most people who actually tried NFL last year thought it was better. Even pure Madden fans I know finally agreed. I think it will be better this year and should sell well. It is a much better game on every level. It's just hard to beat that single minded attitude about Madden. There are some people that are so loyal that they refuse to try something new, even if it is better. I hope it does show that a lower priced game can sell and make a profit. I"m sure I'll get the Madden wrath now.

I agree with you about NFL 2k being better than the Madden franchise. Since the day it came out on the Dreamcast, I've always loved the 2K series. It's just more of a fun game for me to play.

i guess the reason im so attached to this game is because i got 2k1 the day it came out and was my first online console game....i still remember the first day i went online....and even from those days it was competing with madden and people aint even know it

Personally, I have liked the 2k series more. But then again I'm a fan of the underdog. A lot of people are die hard Madden fans, but a lot of people (people like us and people who only know that their nephew wants a football game) are price sensitive. I believe that they will both sell quite well.

I've enjoyed both series equally since I got my Xbox, but when I only had a DC the 2k series was what I played. This year I'm going to stick to 2k5. I doubt the mainstream gamers will though.

I have bought some version of Madden since it first came out, and I am making the switch this year. The price wasnt the motivating factor, I am just sick of the Madden designers adding bullshit features (Madden Cards, anyone?) when they should have been focusing on improving the game.
I would imagine that there are a lot of Madden fans that are going to try NFL 2K5 for the same reason. The lower price point and early release only help ensure this.

I called yesterday, and they told me the same thing. I really hate Best Buy, but you still have time to go out and get a Red Dead Revolver raincheck and get it for less than $12 at Target. However, I called Target yesterday, too, and they didn't know when they were going to get the game.
I guess I'll be waiting a few days because I'm not going to pay full price at Gamestop when I can wait a day or so and get it for $12 at Target.

i think it will sell well also because people like me, who dont play many sports games or dont play them enough to buy them every year. the last football gaem i have is NCAA 2002 for the GC which i got because it was 4.99 used.
im getting nfl 2k5 because its only 20, has LIVE capability and its brand new.
i think it will bring a lot of non-sports or non-football fans who may not want to spend $50 on a sports game out of hiding.

I hope that it sells really well because EA is getting lazy. Prime example is NCAA 2005--there's been no viable competition for this series in a while (sorry Gamebreaker) and we get more or less the same game every year.
A perfect example is the NHL series. NHL 2k3 whooped the hell out of NHL 2003 and EA really made a good effort with NHL 2004.
But I fear that the Madden sheeple are too ingrained in their ways and don't care about anything other than the Madden name to help this game out so much.

You can find out how in the Target clearance thread, but I enjoy it so much that I'll tell ya how right now.
You go into Target and look for one of the games that are marked down 41%. Some are Full Spectrum Warrior, Red Dead Revolver and the new Harry Potter game.
You have to find one that's sold out and has a raincheck stub underneath the game. You ask a clerk for one, get them to scan it and they'll give you a raincheck.
If you take a look at the raincheck, you'll notice Target has a policy where they'll let you substitute any like item and still get the same markdown as the rainchecked item for 30 days.
This means you can get the raincheck, ask for any game and use it to get 41% off the game. This doesn't just apply to NFL 2k5, I've just been talking about it so much because it's coming out around now.
The Target raincheck is an excellent way to get games for a great price.

I'm sure it will sell pretty well but I belive at the same time Madden will sell well too. One of the reasons I believe Madden will be ok is that many gamer's are loyal to Madden, My friend has a ps2 and is a diehard football fan and buys Madden every year and this year I've been telling him about ESPN 2k5 and how it's just as good and $30 less and comes out earlier but he wants no part of it. The 2nd reason Madden will do well is because Gamecube'rs don't get ESPN 2k5 (i.e. me)

I think we are all forgetting a key ingredient here. The Rapper and rapper wanna be demographic. Everyone knows that people who like rap music love Love LOVE Madden games. And considering it's all any rapper who likes games talks about, the casual gamer will get Madden without batting an eye.
Sheeeeeyot beetch, I's gots to get Madden cause ma boy Redman sez so. Dayum!.

I too am a fan of the 2K series; I bought a Dreamcast on 9/9/99 just so I could play NFL 2K and Soul Calibur. As much as I want to see 2K5 do well, when I let people know who come into my store that its coming out soon and will only cost $20, the first words out of their mouths are usually along the lines of "what's wrong with it?"
I proceed to let them know that the series is always well-reviewed and plays really well, etc., etc., but the low price does engender some skepticism, no matter that it's ill-informed.

Well, since I'm pretty sure I'm the only CAG around here, I don't think I have to worry about that too much. That is evident by the fact that no one got to Circuit City for days after the sale had been on and after I was able to get everything I wanted.

well I hope that all the buzz on the internet leaks out to the real world and more people learn about 2k5 by word of mouth. I really hope the buzz only gets greater as time goes on. The most I think we can hope for is madden to be midicore and fans who buy both be really mad at paying 50 bucks for a re-hash. Then next year we will have more people on board as fans of the 2k games.
I've always like the 2k games, Considering how big a DC fanboy I am, I would have to be.

Sorry man, no can do. Especially right now when so many people can use it to get NFL 2k5 for $12.

I don't care how much of a Madden fan you are. Being able to buy a brand new football game with the money mom gave you to chill at the mall is most certainly going to be used to buy 2K5. I know plenty of people who are going to buy TWO copies, one for Xbox and the other for PS2! Crazy!

yeah, i picked up my copy of 2k5 today for xbox because I like LIVE, the better graphics and im sure the ps2 version will eat up half a memory card.
but all my friends have ps2s and no xboxs. whats a guy to do?

Gamepro gave the PS2 version better marks than the Xbox in both gameplay and graphics. I know, I know, it's Gamepro but that is still a very bold statement even if the score differences were only marginal.

This reminds me of something I was thinking about when I was playing 2k5 before work tonight. I noticed that there wasn't a huge emphasis on the music and I didn't really notice anything too special about it or any famous names really.
It reminds me of how I heard about how EA makes a big deal about the music they put into the game, which I'm pretty sure they have to pay for. That's what your extra $30 goes to with Madden.
:sarcasm: But hey that's why Madden is the #1 football franchise because they focus on music and Madden cards rather than improving gameplay.
Seriously, all the features in 2k5 make me think that I would have been just as excited about it even if it was $49.99. I think that V.I.P. system that tracks what you usually pick for plays and how you run them and then in turn allows others to play a profile version of yourself. Then again this year you'll be able to get a Madden card that gives your team a pink uniform and that's what the masses consider cutting edge...
I hated David Arquette BEFORE NFL 2k5 came out, now that he freaking laughs at me when he scores a touchdown I want to punch him in the throat even more.
There is absolutely nothing more humiliating in video games than David Arquette beating you.

They have celebrity players tracked with the VIP system. You can play against Steve-O, Carmen Electra, Arquette and some others. I think that's a pretty cool idea.
So far, this game is so damn good.
But I hope this isn't a bug in the game. Last night I was playing, it was in the final seconds of the fourth quarter and the other team was kicking off. The kick off hit the one-yard line and then bounced into the end zone. None of my players touched the ball, but when the opposing players picked up the ball, it wasn't a touchback, but the game gave the other team a touchdown.
Now, I know that after the ball goes 10 yards, on a kickoff, the defense can recover the ball and it will be theirs. But since it bounced into the endzone it should have been a touchback, shouldn't it?

In the Crib you get phone calls from celebrities who challenge you to a game. The first celeb you're likely to get a call from is Arquette. His team is ridiculously good - all Pro Bowl players. During the game if you score a touchdown a picture of his face will pop up with a mad look and he'll say something like "I can't believe you got that score!". If he gets a touchdown he'll be smiling and saying "woo hoo! I knew that play would go for 7! HA HA!".
If you dodge his calls in the Crib he calls you a chickenshit, basically. It's really annoying.

My first call was from Steve-O, then Carmen Elektra (sp?). Steve-O was at least partially amusing, but Carmen on the other hand..
