View Full Version : Open casting call: Forum Guides

CheapyD

I've decided to give something new a try: forum specific mods or, as I am calling them, Forum Guides.

Forum Guides job will be able to move/lock/edit posts and threads to keep their respective forums organized. The will also try to help out CAGs who are in their forums.

If you are interested in a Forum Guide position, please post in this thread with the forum(s) you are interested in serving.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in being a guide in any/all:
-Video Game Deals
-Deal Discussion
-Nintendo
-General Gaming
-Request a deal
-CAG Feedback (even necessary?)

These are the forums that I frequent most, and I usually have my eye on them pretty consistantly throughout the day.

I am always viewing:
DVD Deals
Deal/Shopping Discussions

To a lesser extent:
Other Deals/Requests
DS/GBA
Wii
Cag Lifestyle and Off-Topic

I am browsing throughout the day, and would love to help out in any way I can. Thanks for this opportunity!

Sure, why not. This is just another excuse for me to do less work while at work, so I'd be happy to help out a little. Not being a full-fledged mod sounds like a simpler task than the great Shrike Shamans of Old. (Bwa ha ha! Old! Yageddit???)

So I'd be happy to look over (as should be expected) the Nintendo Forums, specifically the Wii forums.

Seems like a good place to ask: Could I start up some sort of repeating blog-type post over there simply concerning Nintendo? I'd like to think it would be enjoyable.

I'd be interested if you need help, as I get to spend a lot of time on CAG at work.

The forums I'm mostly on are:
- 360 and original XBox (Mostly regarding XBLA and the Game Nights)
- The CAGCast (do we even need more people for that?)
- PC Games (which is pretty quiet, but is starting to ramp up again thanks to SC)
- Off-Topic (but I think there are people who are more suited for that area than I)
- DVD Deals (as I spend a lot of time on DVDTalk as well, as DVDs were my love between systems)
- Wii

Assuming the overall number of mods is increased.. I'd say it sounds like a good idea. Just worrisome that we could end up with 3 trading forum mods online and noone else.

The PS3 forum always seems so sparsely moderated so I'd like to help there if possible.

I'd be up for the Cag Halo 2 forum as well. It's not very active now, but in two months I'd imagine it could use some extra help.

And if there's still spots available, I would gladly volunteer for the video game deals forum since I'm usually on late at night when the spam hits and no one is on to take care of it.

EDIT: Also, the Canada forum.

I would like to second Ugamer_X's bid for PS3 guide, and I would very much like to join him.

I've worked hard to keep the sparse PS3 fans informed with new info and threads. Helping out new users since launch day with any questions.
I really do think of myself as lover of all systems, but the industry "whipping boy" the PS3 has become is what prompted me to spend much of my time in that board.

Anyway, just hope to be considered. I'm sure most of the PS3 board regulars would say good things.
The PS3 board is starting to flourish now with a lot of new faces, it's going to get busy this year's end.

In any case, I think the VGD forum and Trading Forum both need more than one guide, as those are the two most active areas on CAG.

In total number of mods, I think we should get 1-2 more in addition to backfilling my position. Again, IMO.

Just out of curiosity, but would you ever consider being a Trading Forum Guide as opposed to a Global Moderator? Does one position seem more appealing than the other?

Not trying to yank you out of a comfortable retirement of course, just asking. ;)

Are we looking at having more than one per forum?

I can't possibly spend MORE time on here, so what the hey, put me on the interested list for Wii/DS, General Gaming, Video Game Deals in order of desire.

Edit: I noticed Linkin was made moderator recently, congrats.

I tend to frequent the Video Game Deals, Request a Video Game Deal, DVD Deals, Deal/Shopping Discussions & Bragging Rights, CAG Video Game Trading, and Game Auctions & Auction Discussions forums. I'd be up for taking up a position in one of those, though once this semester starts I'll be only mostly in the afternoon/evening or early morning. I don't know, maybe that makes me more useful :-P I wouldn't be good as a lone moderator for a single forum (unless it's a slow one) but I could certainly help another guide or two keep things under control in a forum that warrants having multiple guides.

Edit: I noticed Linkin was made moderator recently, congrats.

Whoa, congrats indeed. Another stealth appointment like Shipwreck!

I'd like to be a trade in value guide (spend enough time updating the wiki anyway), but then there isn't a trade-in value forum. I guess it goes under Deal Discussion, perhaps? Though recently most of the trade-in deal discussion has just been in threads in the regular video game deals section. I spend most of my time in Video Game Deals (of course), all of the Nintendo forums, and the Xbox 360 forum. Another place I might be able to help out in is "Game Auctions & Auction Discussions". Though wubb kind of has that handled, I try to help him answer ebay newbie questions when I can ;).

But whatever... anywhere I might be needed let me know. The Wii forum would be the most fun, but there's a lot of competition there, and Botticus and/or Strell (along with some others) would be good choices.

Like Ugamer_x, I'm also a late-nighter so could help out wherever off-hour help is needed ;).

Parts of Cag I frequent on are without a doubt the Video Game Trading (leave it to somebody with more experience though) and the Video Game Deals.

If the latter is still available, I'll gladly try and help unclutter the mess in there now with all the ymmv stuff and whatnot (one ymmv walmart thread?). Also, I plan on assisting newer people to where their thread should be instead of in the Video Game Deals asap.

Hmm, sorry if I'm very late for the call...

Personally, I cannot keep up with the ever updating VG deals, DVD deals or the CAG Deal Forum for that matter (with the exception of Regional: West where I happen to hail from).

The sections I most frequently visit are the General Game Discussion, Nintendo (specifically DS/GBA... I know... I know...), and CAG Lifestyle & Offtopic forums.

I haven't had much experience as an actual moderator. However before arriving here, I would frequent another forum that has unfortunately died where I was an "honorable" moderator of sorts in it's dying days. And yes, I completely respect and abide by general forum ettiquete. Plus I'm always for saving CAGs as much of their hard earned cash, be it directly or indirectly.

Now if we are paid with gruel... I'm definitely in. Even e-gruel will do.

Wow, the General Gaming forum can get to be quite a handful as well, and I'm on there about as much as the Nintendo forums. Should an extra hand be needed in that forum, I'd be more than happy to help there in addition to / instead of the Nintendo forums.

When I came to this site over 3 years ago it was for the Video Game Deals forum, and I ended up staying for the wrestling threads I went on to create with Casey. I wish there was a way I could clean the wrestling threads up, as well as, lock the old ones when I or someone else makes a new one, and remove other wrestling threads that are occasionally made.

That aside I'd also like to be a guide on the Video Game Deals forum. Far too much nonsense gets posted on there, and I'd like to help give that forum a more crisp look so the deals are easier to find. I also believe I could be helpful in deleting pointless posts in the many clearance threads, that make it harder to find the actual deals in them. Furthermore, I'd like to see the OPs of clearance threads updated more frequently, again making the deals easier to find. There's also a great deal of merging/thread deletion that could be done in the Video Game Deals forum as that attracts many newer posters who have yet to discover the site's search function.

Basically, I'd just like to make finding good video game deals as easy and as quick as possible.

I'll volunteer for the PS3 forum, though it looks like you guys have some good candidates already. if needed, I'm ready to merge threads, bust heads, and enforce CAG law with an iron fist. I recognize that the ps3 forum is all over the place right now and that official threads don't get used that well, but I'd like to clean it up for the inevitable boom of ps3 owners. I check in multiple times per day and I'll be around even more during the semester. I'll check my many smart ass posts at the door if I become a ps3 mod :)

I think there's definately a calling still for Forum Guides. Just please be patient; I know those of y'all who tossed your names into the ring (and even those who just enjoy following the goings on around here) are anxious to hear the outcome. We all are.

But you have no idea the gladiator games Cheapy is putting us through to fight for & against each nominee. Wubb barely escaped with both wings in the last match. Some of y'all will be glad to hear that I'm going to have to use crutches for at least the next couple weeks after the steel cage match.

I would be willing to take on the role for DVD deals. Figure its a area everyone isn't jumping in for, plus most of the new threads I start are in the DVD deals section anyways. Between all the cags dvd collections and the more recent action in the HD/BR threads its a area I believe we all can improve. With the upcoming holidays, DVD deals should start rolling in fast in furious.

Just by looking at the old DDD sale threads you can see how much money CAGs spend on DVDs. It would also be worth working on getting CAG it's own Deep Discount Sale code for the next sale.

I'm a late night surfer 11 PM to 3 AM (PST) and I see quite a bit of spam during these 4 hours. Its not every day nor is it an insane amount, but many of these spam threads can give the misconception to new CAGs that they are getting a "free Panasonic LCD TV" by clicking a random link and giving out their personal info. While commen sense could be used to avoid these, new CAGs may be awestruck at all the deals on the site that they think anything and everything is real.

While I haven't heard of anything happening to any CAGs by doing something with spam threads, I'm sure its just a matter of time before something does happen. I don't know what time they get taken down, but they are usually still there when I leave and I rarely see any form of moderation in the active users list aside from CheapyD on occasion.

So my thinking is someone who is around at these late hours could become a Global Mod or Forum Guide to patrol the forums for these spam threads. Who? I don't know. Should this happen? Up to the head cheap ass.

Just my 2 cents.

He's been promoted to a Global Mod, instead of a Forum Guide (well he's actually down as both)

I would be up for Trading, Deal/Shopping Discussions and Bragging Rights, or PS3. I'd even do pc games, game reviews, or cag lifestyle since I spend a lot of time there with my daily 5x a day visits. I'm more then willing to help people out and move/lock/edit posts, and fetch coffee.

Thanks

Grats are in order to those who just got positions or got promoted

The canada board still REALLY needs a forum guide. I'm up for it.

So why are people getting picked one at a time.. and very much time in between? Just curious, really.

As per the whims of Cheapy ;).

(Though the mods were pushing for help in the trading forum specifically as of late)

So are all position filled? I would be happy to contribute my efforts in helping CheapyD. Be it the CAG Video Game Trading section, or maybe the Bragging Right's section.

Congratulations to sp00ge for the promotion to Mod and to Pooky for being given the Forum Guide position.

Io, I didn't know you're a Nintendo Guide now, too. Yay!

Hmm, if nothing has happened yet, I'd be down for being a forum guide for PS3 and/or PSP forums

Hmm, if nothing has happened yet, I'd be down for being a forum guide for PS3 and/or PSP forumsI think you'd be pretty good.

I'd most definitely be up to be a forum guide of the PS3 forum (or any Sony forum), since I tend to spend most of my day at CAG (I do coordinate CAG PSN Gaming and usually help people out in the PS3 forum). Chances of me getting it are very slim I know, but I just wanted to throw my name out anyway. ;)

If this is still an open invitation:
I'd like to profess interest in the 360/DS/General/Other Deals forum guide positions as they're the ones I frequent most and am most comfortable with.
The 360 forum is the one I participate in the most, as I've created the Xbox Live Gaming Group tag listings as well as getting some game nights started and providing the first implementations of CAG "clans" through the friend of a friend feature on Xbox Live. Linkin does a great job with the forum, but with his promotion to global mod, maybe there is room for a Guide in the 360 forum as well.

Beyond that, the Other Deals forum probably would be the biggest draw for me as it taps into a wide range of topics and could definitely use some oversight if only because of the volume of disparate posts created there.

I'd love to be a bigger part of CAG and would be interested in speaking to my qualifications for a Forum Guide position in the DS (not the quickest moving forum, but will almost certainly grow as CAG traffic grows) and general forums (most of the reasons I'd like to tackle the Other Deals forum apply to the General Gaming forum as well, which has a wide base of different types of threads) as well. Thanks much.
