I hope it's around $60. This bad boy contains MGS1! That thing is worth the whole price alone!

It's about $52.90 something USD converted from Yen. So Expect $59.99+.

True, but you think they'd say no to such a seller like this?
How do I change title?
Well unless there is a change in sony america policy they can't bundle PS1 games with PS2 games.
The package looks cool but they include the original and not the subsistence version for MGS 2 and 3 or plus version for PSP

Hard to tell; there is a second disc for MGS 3 that contains the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. It's unnecessarily confusing, and that's never a positive thing.
It could be an incentive to get people to buy a PSP if it includes Portable Ops. Since this set is out in Japan, and PO+ isn't yet, I don't know that it indicates what would be included in the US version of the set, but it doesn't bode well.

If that's all that is included in the collection, they're missing a PS1 game. It doesn't have MGS VR Missions included in the collection. After playing Twin Snakes, it'll be hard to go back to the PS1 version. It's like playing Resident Evil 4 then going back & playing the original RE on PS1.

Twin Snakes bastardized the PS1 version, in my opinion. Mei Ling, Nastasha, and Naomi all without their accents is inexcusable. Plus, they didn't exactly add anything to take advantage of the MGS2 engine.
Considering the amount of backtracking in MGS1, and the slower midgame bits of MGS2, one playthrough of either really should count for two, so I'm not all that excited for this pack.
MGS1:Integral included the VR Missions.
The lack of MGS:GB is inexcusable for any collection. I loved it more than MGS1.
Plus, given that the MGS story is really not a cohesive narrative (I.e. Suddenly Ocelot is so much more than a KGB cowboy freak, the story goes from po-mo tragedy to 60s spy movie send-off between 2 and 3, et al.), I don't understand the desire to learn the entire MGS story.
But, if this collection includes Integral, Substance, and Subsistence, it is hard even for an MGS-hater like myself to not recommend. If it has the vanilla MGS1, 2, and 3... you could get those cheaper just about anywhere else easily.

as long as you are not thinking of playing them. Substance is huge improvements over the original.
for people that are thinking of getting into MGS, you can pick up the original MGS 2 and 3 for cheap. The MGS 1 will cost a bit more but getting for 3 games shouldnt be that hard.

Is it wrong I own Twin Snakes, Substance and Subsistence LE yet still want this? That's just it. Aside from TS (this is a PS2 or 3 set, not likely any nintendo exclusive will wind up in it), until I know if it has Substance and Subsistence, I'm not about to replace all my older games with it. And I don't want duplicates either.
If it has the Subs in it, I'll get rid of the cart and the ps1/2/psp games and just have this nice little set to replace them. Although... it does have Metal Gear 2, right? I dont have that. hrmm...

Yea right, it's gonna have to be $100. The price in Japan is very average for a regular PS2 game, it seems. So it doesn't have to be extremely expensive in the US.
Also, the Japanese version has Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater.

Who needs Twin Snakes when the original PSX game is in there?
I still can't believe they cut out that line from the Raven cutscene where he meets Snake, blasts him, snake does a backflip, and Raven says "You truly are from hell" or something like that...
Good times.
Rei no Otaku
08-02-2007, 07:16 PM
They cut a lot of lines from TS sadly. The biggest offense being Sniper Wolf's line "It's a love letter my dear. A bullet straight from my gun, to your heart."
The original is superior to TS in quite a few ways.

That and they give you the PSG1-T a LOT closer than the friggen PSG1.
Now, if only they had the torture chamber in fucking Warhead Storage instead of back at the start of the fucking game, a repeat playthrough of the game would be almost tolerable.
Almost.
Seriously, if this set doesn't include Substance or Subsistence... I don't see the point. MGS3 is fucking unplayable after the free-control camera of MGS3S. Average graphics become friggen gorgeous after you stop being forced to use the ridiculous top-down camera. Plus, The Fury fight becomes actually PLAYABLE... guards see you from off-screen a bit less...

Yeah the camera wasn't that bad at all. Especially if you're already used to it from playing the previous games. I'll admit the new camera in Subsistance was an improvement, but MGS3 was far from unplayable without it.

MGS' story is completely nuts. I mean, who the fuck talks about "love on the battlefield" while infiltrating an enemy fortress?
I always chalked it up to a crazy translation but after playing through the main three MGS games several times each, I came to the conclusion that it's just a fucked up crazy story that requires too much effort to reach a concensus about.
I'll still get and most likely enjoy MGS4 for the gameplay but I'll skip most of the story parts on subsequent replays.

Anyone expecting a brilliant story in any video game is going to be very disappointed. Not to say that all video games have bad stories, but a good story is definitely an anomaly as far as most games go.

Twin Snakes was my first MGS game, and I couldn't be happier. I enjoyed it so much.
I played MGS Integral on my PC earlier this year. It's the closest to the PSX version I ever got. It didn't exactly sit well with me. I liked it, but Twin Snakes did everything so much better. The only thing the PSX/PC version had over Twin Snakes was the music, and the music in Twin Snakes isn't bad by any stretch.

What are you talking about? It plays like Subsistence on the PSP, just with the whole squad aspect adding some strategy to the gameplay.
Aside from the very core game play, it's a completely different game. I give the warning because I've lost count of the number of people I've talked to that dislike the game simply because they thought they were getting another entry into the MGS series, only to be extremely disappointed by all the changes to the formula, especially the shift from relying on sneaking and action, to formation, strategy and character stats.
Best comparison I can come up with(on the spot) is Final Fantasy Tactics as it relays to a more typical Final Fantasy (let's say VII).

I like the packaging but I already own most of this. Isn't Metal Gear 1 and 2 packaged with Substitence?

No Substance, Subsistence, or VR Missions? Complete and utter phail.
Agreed. Also, where's Integral?
The lack of VR missions is what really kills it I think. I might still buy it. Maybe.

yes, very fail-tastic. I couldn't care less about this collection now. I consider the re-releases to be the "fixed" versions.
