BestBuy.com has put up pre-order listings for the PS3 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8402926&productCategoryId=pcmcat124300050013&type=product&tab=4&id=1180742577578) and Xbox 360 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8368036&productCategoryId=pcmcat94400050019&type=product&tab=4&id=1177718175971) versions of Rock Band. That doesn't sound like a big deal until you hear about the price each version is listed at: $59.99. That's a lot less than the $300 Gamestop estimate (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/09/rock-bands-dubious-300-gamestop-price/) that was getting thrown around a while back.

We know what you're thinking: This deal is probably just for the game disc, without the special controllers needed to make it work. Au contraire -- the product features clearly state that "included drum, guitar and microphone peripherals enable players to perform music together." [emphasis added]. Even if Best Buy realizes their mistake and raises the price, their pre-order FAQ (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12076&type=page&faqID=1054508892648) states "you will always receive the lower of the two prices."

We can't guarantee that Best Buy will actually honor this great deal when the game comes out in November, but it seems to us like they might have to. We recommend putting in the order now, printing out the applicable product features description and receipt, and arguing your case when it comes time for the in-store pick up.

That's why I printed out a copy of the website's description. The URL also contains the SKU # in it for further verification. I figure that might give me a stronger leg to stand on.

I'd say still that my greatest PM score of all was from the CC ad misprint for a Denon HTiB (yes, active sub included) plus standalone Denon HDMI DVD player for $249.. of course CC posted a sign saying it was a misprint, but Best Buy still pricematched it (when I think MSRP was $899 or something). I didn't expect to score it.. and when they said they'd PM, it kind of caught me off guard.. I ended up selling my old Pioneer receiver and separate Pioneer speakers w/sub.. I ended up being a few dollars shy of getting the new system of free.

Point is.. some of us might luck out. I'm going into this expecting a coupon or GC as well, but best case scenario.. I get an email saying my bigass box o' game crap with nowhere to put it is ready for store pickup. :)

I used a PayPal card. What happened is that it placed an instant temp hold on my card for the total, but that temp hold will drop off in a few days, then once it ships (you know, if it ships), then the real charge will go through at that time.

As long as you have the page saying it was for the version with guitar/bass/drums and the one about their pre-order policy you should be OK.

If they give you hell, call a manager, then call the corporate offices. If that doesn't work you can file a claim against them with the Better Business Beurau.

They will give it to you eventually, just depends on how far you are willing to go to get it.

If you've been reading the updates to our story on the $60 Rock Band package with included controllers offered by BestBuy.com (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/best-buy-offering-60-rock-band-pre-order-w-accessories/), you know that the site stopped taking pre-orders some time Monday night and took down the product entirely on Tuesday morning. Well, this morning things started getting really interesting.

BestBuy.com re-posted the product (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8368036&productCategoryId=pcmcat94400050019&type=product&tab=4&id=1177718175971) description (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8402926&productCategoryId=pcmcat124300050013&type=product&tab=4&id=1180742577578) pages for Rock Band this morning with a few key changes. The product description now clearly states that the drum, guitar and microphone accessories are "sold separately" and "optional" (Optional? We'd like to see them play the game without 'em!). These notes were not on the version available on the site from at least last Thursday through Monday night, as the above scanned printout clearly shows. Pre-orders are no longer being offered for the item, which has the same SKU and Best Buy ID number as the original posting.

So what about those of us that pre-ordered before the bait-and-switch. We called Best Buy and talked to a customer service representative who seemed just as confused as we were. First she checked to see if she could simply add the peripherals to the order but, unfortunately, BestBuy.com does not yet have the Rock Band controllers in its system (unlike Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Xbox-360-Drums/dp/B000TT2D2A/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_1_img/002-0120503-1966421) and GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802677)). She then checked to see if other orders placed on Monday had received any special consideration, but none showed any change from the original order. At one point she tried to argue that the original description may have just meant that the game merely supported the peripherals, but the printout we have clearly states that the peripherals were included(that one little word is key here).

We were then forwarded on to a BestBuy.com floor supervisor, Chris, who we walked through the whole situation once again. Chris asked us to fax the printout we made of the earlier version of the page and said he would forward the matter to their corporate headquarters. Chris said in situations like these the corporate HQ has to decide whether to amend the orders already placed or provide some other form of restitution to those affected.

Chris said he expected to have some sort of answer by tomorrow, and you'll be sure to hear about it as soon as we do. In short, don't cancel those pre-orders just yet. Joystiq is on the case!

Got a cancellation notice as well. Funny thing is that an hour after the cancellation comes in, Best Buy sends me another email stating that the release date for my order has been changed.
Nice to see that they are on top of things.
