View Full Version : I have to give Gamestop credit. Doing smart business by raising GC game prices.

I never really noticed it before but the GC games of the same franchises of just about every new game for the Wii have gone up by just about 30% except for SSB. Thankfully I snagged these games already.

Mario Strikers - 26.99 to 34.99
Metroid Prime - 5.99 to 7.99
Metroid Prime 2 - 14.99 to 19.99
Super Smash Bros. Melee - 26.99 to 29.99

I expect this to happen with Mario Sunshine as well.

That $34.99 strikers price is just them HOPING that clueless new Wii gamers coming in for strikers charged will see it and THINK that's the new Wii game..

I cannot believe this store.. and people will still eat it up.

I don't think anyone has ever argued that teh Stop isn't shrewd at business. They know when they can hit a few, shall we say less than on the ball, folks for a few extra buxx.

Also why Spider-Man 2 on GameCube is the highest priced of the Spider-Man 2 games ($19.99 on GameCube used, $9.99 for Xbox and $8.99 for PS2). Granted, they all jumped in price as my used copy for Xbox is tagged at $5.99, but the fact is that they're going overboard with the Cube prices.

It's also why none of the Mario Party titles have dropped (7 STILL being $44.99 used).

Looks like I'm definately not picking up regular Strikers any time soon.

Pretty much all multi-platform are most expensive on Gamecube, though I can't think of a single game that is best on Gamecube other than Resident Evil 4 (which isn't more expensive on Gamecube).

$7.99 for the first Metroid Prime? GameCrazy can't even get rid of them at $4.99.

But Game Crazy doesn't have stores 300 feet away from each other  and they're not everywhere in the U.S.. GS is everywhere and they figure that people will pay the extra $ so they don't have to travel elsewhere.

As with many others, I say fuck those prices and shop elsewhere. Been shopping at Game Crazy lately since they usually are cheap on games and price games usually by age, not BC.

You couldn't have posted this in one of the 2 other threads talking about GameStop raising prices? No, I guess YOU couldn't.

See I've grown kinda sour on Gamecrazy lately. They have awesome trade-in credit but my local one has such a shitty selection with piss poor prices. You can find almost all of their $8-$10 games for $5 at Gamestop.

I hate gamecrazy stores because they're a fucking eyesore and they don't organize anything. Also, the name is retarded. There's no good gaming retail chains, they should all go out of business.

Just about every retail out their has a ridiculous name. What does that have to do with anything?

Electronics Botique still sounds wrong. Who would ever think they carry videogames?

Electronics Botique still sounds wrong. Who would ever think they carry videogames? That's because they started off selling electronics that weren't games. That's why they've also been known as EB Games more recently.

Helps raise awareness of what games rose in price, that's for sure. Had I not seen this thread, I wouldn't have known that regular Mario Strikers jumped in price.

yesterday I went into a Gamestop and found a mint Atelier Iris  but I noticed even a game like Magna Carta went from $24.99 used to $29.99 and what the hell they sell Tales of Abyss new for $29.99 and used for $26.99 ??

To my surprise though I went in and purchased my games and all the girl asked me was if I wanted to renew my Card seeing it Expired and I said nope and she did not haggle and sales pitches for reserves, warranty, or the benifits of renewing my card...

Add MVP Baseball 2005 for the Cube to the list- raised from $12.99 to $14.99.

all this means is that gamestops are going to accumulate stock of these old games on GameCube, before realizing people won't pay out the ass for them, then we'll see price drops and rejoice at the overstockedness of the stores.. right?

I honestly don't remember this ever happening with the PSOne when PS2 BC came about.. and Xbox game values have stayed even or dropped, even for 360 BC titles.. What's the deal with GameCube?

That's because GameStop was actually better back in those days. Everyone was more hyped about being able to play PS2 games as well. Xbox has kinda jumped up and down. Some games went up. Some went down. Marvel vs Capcom 2 definately jumped up even higher.

The real reason? Wii is fully backward compatible with GameCube. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are not. Especially with the upcoming newer PS3 model being cost efficient and removing some parts that will make some PS2 games unplayable.
