Its the best music format you can get...Its called OGG VORBIS...its pretty much the quality of a real CD...a little loss but not much...I have some songs in MP3 format and in OGG VORBIS...the cd in MP3 is around 40 MB...the OGG VORBIS is around 500...You can clearly (atleast I can) tell a difference...OGG VORBIS is your best bet when it comes to ripping cd's it has the best overall quality...Its sad that my ipod doesnt support it...Owell...
Yes you can burn it to a cd...I dont know how to burn a disc on windows so dont ask me...

Well, both ogg and mp3 have multiple bit rates, but ogg is supposed to be better - and patent free, which I'm sure doesn't mean a thing for you.
Don’t have a player that plays Ogg Vorbis? try one of these:

Dunno about burning, I convert from CD to data files, not the other way around.
You could always find an ogg -> mp3 converter, but you'll lose quality this way.

I know that the game "the Thing" used the Ogg Vorbis file format for the sound effects.
Thats the only application I have seen it used in.

Ogg is pretty nice. Good compression and you can get some nice rates. Also check out MonkeyAudio which is lossless which means you'll have big files but really REALLY REALLY good sound stuff. Experiment and see which format you like the best based on sound, space, etc.

Great site, but I don't speak geek, so I really couldn't tell what was what.
can anyone just give me a link to a easy-to-use converter? Many thanks if you can.
