Hi:
I went to Best Buy and bought a gamer gift card to to get the $5 off. After I purchased the giftcard I tried to purchase MX Unleashed for XBOX for $39.99-$5.00= 34.99. I was then supposed to get a $10 gift card for future purchase. Well the cashier was un-educated and charged me $47.99 and I did not even get a gift card. I was instructed to go to the customer service counter for my adjustment (I didn't realize what was happening until after the transaction was completed. )
At the customer service counter I was told by a very rude cashier that I could not combine the gamer gift card with the $10 future gift card. I told her it did not say that in the ad. She would not budge on the issue so I decided to return the game and not even give best buy my business.
On the way out I spoke with a manager and told her about my rude experience and she agreed with me about my service problems but she would not budget on the $10 card either.
frustrated I went across the street to circuit city and picked up MX unleashed there. When I went to the counter I was told only the PS2 version could get the $10 gift card. I got real frustrated and just came home.
I never really liked best buy or best buy.com and after today I don't think I will be buying any more from them.
Has anyone got the $5 gamer gift card to work with the $10 gift card on a future purchase?
The GGC coupons do say "Not good in combination with other coupons or offers." So technically I guess they could say it doesn't work with the gift card offer. Although they could also say if a game is on sale that is also an 'offer' and not let you use the coupon on sale items, but I've never heard of them doing that.
You had three different employees (including the manager) give you the same story so maybe that BB (or maybe all of them) have a heads up to not do the GGC coupon along with the $10 thing. That would suck.

I hate Bestbuy. It is stuff like that that pisses me off. I always try not to go there and that whole Gamer Gift Card is the only reason and honestly now I rather just spend the extra $5 and not be treated like a piece of poop.

Here's the Trick Peoples have to learned! I k now
BB is $uck but i got to be smart to nail them down.
Just buy the game w/ Regular Price & Received Free $10 GF.
Ask for the Gift Receipt (Incase)
Return to the store at customer service desk w/ ur $5 off coupon ask for Price adjustment (Hand over with Gift Receipt)
You'll received $5.XX back on Gift Card or Cash if is Orginal Receipt :)
Just say You forget the coupon in the car or something !! :)

As much as I hate Best Buy for various reasons, I hate to say it but I don't think they were wrong this time about being able to combine the coupon with a gift card promotion since like someone else mentioned, the coupon does say not to be combined with any other offers.

Does it say that the coupon is not valid on prior purchases? You wouldnt be able to get a price adjustment with the coupon.

I had this exact same problem today at Best Buy. They would not let me use the $5 coupon and get the $10 gift card. Oh well... :-)

What's your problem?
The GGC's fine print explains it may not be used with any other offers. This information doesn't need to be in the ad too.
The BB employees were right, and you were wrong.
It sounds like you had problems with similar pesky little details at Circuit City too.
You need to pay attention to details, and not be so easily frustrated.

Hi:
Actually, I had NO problem with the end result. It's HOW they explained it to me and how they treated me in the process. I NEVER said in my earlier post that I was upset with Circuit City at all. I think you need to re-read my post and see WHO and WHAT I was upset at. Who actually reads the fine print on the back of those cards. Its so small and so much stuff that they could have explained it a tad bit better.
Thanks or trying to interpret my post for others to read. Next time you should re read and get it right.

The gamer's gift card also says at the bottom of the coupon : "$5 off any regularly priced game $19.99 or more.
So, tecnically, if the game is on sale like Zero Mission was last week, they don't have to honor it since 29.99 was the regular price and 24.99 was the sale price.

BB does suck...but the rules of Supply and Demand apply with me, and whenever a cheap price comes up...I grudgingly head over to the yellow box.

Exactly. I've just quit spending money at BB. I'll pay gladly $5 more for a game to avoid the attitude. The place is run like Popcopy (http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/chappellesshow/extras.jhtml)

Hmm... You can't win all the time with deals.
The gamer's gift card also says at the bottom of the coupon : "$5 off any regularly priced game $19.99 or more.
I don't see that on the coupon? I only have one on me (cut out at the white dotted lines), is that outside of the dotted lines of the coupon? Or maybe different versions of the jewel box have different language? Mine came from the black version.
Luckily they do seem to have no problem honoring the coupon on sale prices. Would make it a lot less valuable if they wouldn't. I've even had them take the GGC on a price match with EBgames.

The main problem I have with Best Buy is their service period. I mean I work at Toys R Us in the videogame department so I know how things are handled. When you tell me on a Sunday that the truck is in the back with the game but you won't go back and get it for me because you are flat out too lazy to find it, that pisses me off. Another thing is the fact that the music, movies and games section is handled by the same group of people. I don't know about your BB but that is the largest section in the store yet it seems they have the most stupid people in the store.

I got lucky at my BB... for FF:CC I used a GGC and it crashed the computer (this happened for a lot of people if you check other posts). Clearly, the $10 gift card for future purchases wasn't meant to be combined with a coupon. But luckily they assumed the computer was just freaking out, so I brought it to another cash register and got the $10 card anyway.
HOWEVER, upon checking the receipt I realized that the coupon discount was not applied, even though they took the coupon. Bastards.
HOWEVER (pt 2), a quick trip to customer service got me $5.xx back in cash, once I explained the situation. So it worked in the end, but it was screwy and I got lucky. I then used a second GGC coupon, a $5 GGC, and the $10 card from buying FF to get Metroid for like $11.
By the way, you shouldn't ever get a problem using a gift card with anything else... the gift card is the same as using money, so it doesn't count as an "offer." It's only the COUPON that might cause problems.

You just have to pray that you don't get a dumb employee when trying to use the coupon properly or an alert employee when you try and use the coupon when you shouldn't. Because of all the fine print, it's easy to miss or misread any detail. Everyone has different experiences - you just have to get lucky.
As for your experience, kevgret, the employees really have no excuse for being rude. I don't know that "it doesn't say anything about this in the ad" is good support for your argument, but it doesn't hurt to try. You also have to learn not to let employees push you around. If a cashier is stupid, don't let them make it your problem by sending you to customer service - make it their problem by having them get a manager or supervisor over to fix the problem. You can even do it without being rude.

I was able to get both MX Unleashed and Pitfall for 24.99 each at BB. Using the $10 gift card and $5 off coupon. I even had them put the $10 on a gamer gift card so that I could get another coupon. I find that sale prices and $5 off coupons often allow the computer to come up with an amazing price. I'm still quite happy with getting Mario & Luigi for 94 cents.
