We've got Tekken DR online coming up, possibly on 8/23. Everyone list your PS3 names!

mine is mames. my connection at my new apartment seems kinda weak, but hopefully this game will run smoothly like Resistance.

Name is InuFaye, i think i might buy a G router just so that the wireless will work better on my ps3.

Does anyone know if a g router will broadcast out a stronger signal then a b router? My house is old and with walls that are easily 8 inches thick that are made out of brick.

Chacrana

Eww gross, boy.

And my PSN name is Chacranajxy.

Inu, g routers should give you a much stronger signal. At least, that's what I noticed when I stepped up to one. Of course, you need a G router and a G wireless adapter to gain any advantage.

Stick with it (pun intended.) When I first got a stick, it was difficult to do stuff that I could do with relative ease before. When you use it enough though and get used to it, there's absolutely no way you can go back, because you'll realize just how much more precision you've got with a stick.

Damn right. It just feels like a really slow time for fighting games (outside of SBO/EVO) so it'll give us something to talk about once everyone starts playing online.

Then again Arcana Heart is coming out in a little over a month. I'm really excited to finally play it. Anyone else picking it up?

I finally played my import version for Last Blade 1 & 2 and I am amazed how awesome this fighter is. I truly recommend this import for those that do not have this game on Dreamcast or PSone. I read that this is a port of the NEO GEO CD versions of the game (minus long load times) which have the great orchestral soundtrack. Also, I heard the USA Dreamcast version colors the blood white. Anyway, I'm have a blast with this game so far.

Ohhh yeah. Looks like J&R has it (via amazon):

I really like that 360 stick, nice simple design.
I'm a sucker for sticks now, and I NEED one to improve on DOA4 and especially for when VF5 comes around (and SF:HF).
Is there a headphone jack on it?
And oooh, that wireless?

It's not wireless and that's an input for the 360 headset.

Eh, I think the slide card's a better option just because you don't have to replace the top of your PS2 with some gaudy lookin' POS. Gocybershop.ca is where I got my shit.

Also got my fliptop via www.thegiantstore.com

Had a going away party last night. It was pretty fun. It was pretty depressing know that I'll be living 4 hours from anyone I know. Definately makes me feel super nostalgic. My life is going to be completely different and it's making me feel happy and sad and regretful all at the same time, among other things. Definately excited and nervous though.

I spilled beer on my DS by accident and now it doesn't work. I guess I'll pick up a new one when UMK3 comes out.

Played SF2 late last night once my party was dying out with everyone that still plays. It was great having a 6 man rotation like the good old days. Also I was pretty drunk so I was actually losing which was good (none of my friends play alot like I do).

that's nice, and it sucks... alongside the nulling of your DS... those things are salvageable with some unscrewing and blow drying... (saved my GBA SP back in the day).

PM me your new adress once you move. I'll maybe see if I can send you some stuff to make your home coming better.

Get ready for a restart on friends and life. Creepy and cool. Like we talked about a few months back... the other side of the fence is neat, but fucking scary. At least Tekken online will be welcoming you maybe.

DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is natural if you haven't worked out for a while. after the first week or so it gets reduced by a lot.

having sore arms isn't so bad though.

wait till you work out your legs. you know it sucks when you have to struggle just to sit on the toilet...

i usually don't get sore unless i haven't been to the gym in a week, or i try out some new exercise that i'm not used to. it's pretty fun once you start busting your records and stuff and soreness goes away pretty fast after that terrible first weak, so yeah.

I don't start until 9/4. the downside is that finals go up until 12/22. I don't think I have a late final this semester, but I did two semesters ago. It sucked ass.

Haven't been playing any fighters lately...just Persona 3 and I'm about to pick up Bioshock. Between Bioshock, Persona, Tekken DR Online, Space Giraffe, and maybe Puzzle Fighter, it's going to be a VERY tough decision of which console to bring home this weekend when I visit my folks :\

We originally put our money on both August 16th, then the following August 23rd as the forthcoming release date for T5DR ONLINE in the US… Sadly it is not coming out this week! But it is coming, SOON! Namco Bandai Games Inc. is working on some quality issues with the title for American gamers and while there is no concrete date, it is soon. How soon? “Within the next couple of weeks…” as told to us by Namco from their Online Gaming media event which happened earlier tonight. So there you have it folks! Release date for USA is to be announced. But be rest assured the wait is ALMOST over!

I could never get into GG too much, but then again I did go through every story scenario with each character in GGXX2 (roughly 70 scenarios I think).

One thing I want to bring up, though there's been so many threads before that I forget if it's been discussed, but what fighting game got you hooked on fighters... I mean where you mentally made a note that you really would like to play more fighters or get good at them.

Mine would be Tekken 3... Street Fighter Alpha 3 also helped a ton.

Also, everyone, wish a good luck to JimFoley tomorrow... he's moving and it's basically a huge change. Plus he's got a ton of crap to probably move.

Same here. When that game first came out a local 7-11 had it. My cousin (who was in charge of babysitting me) would take me there every other day to play it.

He pretty much taught me everything I knew at the time and is the reason I got into fighting games in the first place. From that time (maybe 14-15 years ago?) I knew I wanted to get better at fighting games and play every single one out there.

Good luck on the move Jim!! Hopefully you'll get setup quick and join us all in T5DR Online.

Definately SF2:WW. I was young at the time but I was okay at it. When Champion came out I got into it and actually learned the moves and everything. I actually learned how to do a Fireball motion with Sagat first (strange for sure).

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I hope to be back up and online ASAP. Pretty sure I'll have no problem getting internet access on my computer, but on my consoles is another story.

Talk to everyone as soon as I can.

Best of luck, Jim!!!

As far as that "first fighting game" goes, you can throw me in with the SF2:WW crowd. First time I saw it was at this comic/video store that my dad would always take me to. In my early days of playing I gravitated towards Blanka, Chun Li, and E Honda, because I could do a special move just by mashing buttons and it made me feel all cool.

Haha, I never actually did a hadoken (intentionally) until my friend got the game on SNES. I was so excited because the instruction manual had the special move commands, and that was actually the first time I had seen them written down on paper. But we puzzled over the basic fireball motion... down, then down-forward, then forward, what's that all about eh???? Then I figured out it was supposed to be a "rolling" motion and I felt like a genius.

Ah, my days of retardation.Hahaha yeah. My airtight SNES strategy involved copious amounts of Chun Li sweeps. And of course lightning kick spams like no one's business. Back in the day that would get you a ton of wins. Only Japanese kids at the arcade possessed the deeper knowledge of 2-hit combos and what have you.

Anyone remember being a young fighter dude... back when the hidden knowledge was not so widespread and the Internet was remote and strange...

You'd learn one special move and you'd be like "oh snap, it's ON now!" You'd pump those quarters in the machine, ready to kick some ass. You'd build your entire gameplan around hitting that one move, and of course you'd usually choke on some serious CPU ownage afterwards.

That happened to me a lot, but I'm sure I'm not the only one! Ha ha I was all like "NO ONE will stand a chance now that I can do a Spinning Bird Kick!"

I ruled an entire arcade with this Sub-Zero combo in MK2: jump kick, ground freeze, upper cut, slide.

then someone smart would come along and jump before slipping on the ground freeze. if that happened, the pressure was really on for the match

Back when SFII came out for SNES I was the only one in my neighborhood that had the game. I remember buying it the first day it came out at Babbages. It was during the summer and for two months straight my friends would come over almost every single day and we would have 6-8 hour gaming sessions and tournaments. Some one would have to make a McDonalds run for lunch. It started out with just my brother and three of my friends but then word quickly got out that I had the SNES and the game. Pretty soon kids from my HS and their friends were coming over to play. Thankfully, we had a pretty large basement and a 32 inch TV so everyone could see the action.

moving from what got you started...

All fighting games have at least 3 major characters during matches... Fighter 1, Fighter 2, and the stage backdrop.

What are each of your favorite stages, overall, from the main fighters (just post one for each... dosn't matter what games though):

Tekken series: Tekken 4's basement fight club... I still think that stage needs a comeback in tekken 6 or later. It was so constraining and the interactivity with the crowd just kicked ass.

Soul Calibur series: probably in soul edge the original raft stage... was too awesome for words at the time.

Virtua Fighter series: Wolf's cage stage in VF4. The music was decent and the crowd was neato.

Street Fighter series: probably Guy's Alpha 2 or Alpha 3 stage... all the Final Fight references just kick ass.

Darkstalkers series: Dimitri's wasn't too bad... nothing ever amazing from this series.

Vs. Series: Definitely the bath house from MvC1. the fact that you could throw opponents into another scene rocked and the naked guy washing up in the back was a great touch.

KoF series: in KoF 98... the most badass one... the one in front of car traffic with the Neo Geo arcade in the back... the cool thing was also if you removed the sprite layers of the cars you could see mini versions of KoF characters doing famous animations like the Ralf/Clark entrance animation.

Guilty Gear series: hard to say... probably Venom's GGXX stage largely due to it having the best music i've heard in the series.

Mortal Kombat series: out of all fighters, this one is the hardest since almost all of the 2D MK's stages are classics... every stage in MKII rocked.

Street Fighter Series: Vega's Stage (HF)

Tekken: Most of my favorite ones come from T5DR, which also has stages from T5. The buddha statue stage, the moonlight stage w/ all the white flowers (?) and the Cathedral stage with the grey stone are my favorites.

Guilty Gear: I honestly have not played the game enough to have a favorite stage

post a thread for this... I know that some other CAGs know how to get through it all, but I have no clue...

i did find this and it may help... don't know:

The easiest way is to assign an alternate MAC address to your 360, which will allow you to swap the Ethernet cord between it and your computer. Go to the System blade and the Network settings. Go to the advanced section, and you will see you can enter an Alternate MAC Address. Find the MAC address of your computer, and enter this into your 360. Finally, set all of your IP and DNS settings manually like you did on your computer, assuming that your MAC address is linked to your IP like most schools have it set up.

also:

1. on your pc go the the command prompt and type ipconfig/all
2. go to the network settings and type the information in on your 360

Don't forget the other big Super Turbo update... the confirmation of a re-balanced mode!I’ve mentioned it before as a possibility, but I can confirm that we will be putting in a new mode to the game. It will be, for lack of a better descriptor, a re-balanced mode. This mode will be optional for online and offline play. I will not go into the details about the mode, but the changes therein were taken from some of the best Super Turbo players out there. As you may or may not know, one of the principal members of the development team is David Sirlin. Aside from being an excellent developer, he is also a pretty accomplished Super Turbo tournament player. Talking to his buddies from the Evo scene (BTW, the Evo finals are going on this weekend in Las Vegas), he compiled a list of changes that they agreed would be good for the game. Just to be clear, this is an optional mode for online and offline play, so if you don’t like it, you can always play the classic mode. Even still, many gamers, like myself, probably would barely notice the changes. So unless this mode turns out to totally break the gameplay, it should make it into the final.

Nice post of the Mike Z video.

I met him at the MidWest championships some years ago.
He's just a quiet modest guy, but his ability to exploit bugs is amazing.

He taught me a bunch of bizarre and crazy MVC2 tricks, it was great times.

Now that's what I wanted to see. Looks really good. Now hopefully the animation will be where it needs to be.

oh hay, I took out sum of ur animation frames because MS decided to release a sku without an hdd:

Last week, I mentioned that some of the levels will be changed slightly, but you’ll still recognize them. As you can see, we updated the cars and some elements of the stage. Some of the people will animate in the game, but as you may have noticed, there aren’t as many people on the screen as there were in the original. Being that this is a download title, we have to find ways to minimize the download size. One of the ways we’ve come up with is to subtly cut down on the amount of animation in the background. This will only be apparent in some stages. Yes, I know some of you are thinking it, but this unfortunately means we will not be giving them extra frames.

One thing before I move on: this isn’t a screenshot from the game, but these are the exact assets we are using for the game and the same resolution they will be in the game. So the window size and placement of some of the elements may not be the same as the final. Also, you’ll notice that the casino in the background is called the Crazy Buffalo. As you know, it used to be called the Golden Nugget. But as that is a real casino, I renamed it Crazy Buffalo in honor of one of Balrog’s moves.

They should just release the game with some ugly-ass stretched backgrounds ripped straight from the original. You know, to keep the game well within the memory limit. Then put out fully-detailed, fully-animated, fully-redrawn HD stages as a download content pack - for free, released the same day as the game. Problem solved!

To be honest, almost all my Marin friends that play fighting games are lazy as hell now. No one really wants to practice anymore, let alone practice stuff they usually don't play.

From what I heard, Dave still plays a ton of T5/T5DR and Guilty Gear from time to time. I think he recently got back from Japan so I can see if he's interested in throwing down against you Sonoma County guys in Tekken. His Asuka ain't no joke.

Let me know if you or Dan get anything going. I've met a lot of other SC guys that you and Dan know recently, so I'd like to get some games of CVS2 or Marvel going. I'm tired of my lazy ass friends that I'm getting to the point I'm looking for other people to play against now.

ahahaha, on behalf of fanatiq:

Fanatiq made winners top 8. He is using a ps2 pad with one button dash. It is allowed but he is getting a lot of flak from it. He did beat Erik and Wigfall in pre-tourney money matches with the pad.

and the follow up:

Why the hell would Evo even allow something so retarted as that I mean c'mon thats terrible. 1 Button dash???? HORRIBLE!!!

lol! makes sense tho...

but the funniest thing I read is Dark Prince getting out winners bracket:

WOW, demon hyo rapes dp first game, perfects him the second game, and dp resets the game before it got a chance to say perfect lol. This was all on the big screen. Youtube that shit!
OMG Demon Hyo raped Dark prince, DPC reset the game instead of getting perfected
ROFL

he RESET!!!
OMG!!!! I just read the D. Hyo vs DPC stuff. This shit is amazing. Evo moment #38 has already happened!
wow DP should not play marvel anymore. Not even casually. This is butt plundering rape at its best.
yeah instead he hit the reset button before the screen said PERFECT. It counts as a perfect. None of the two games were even close. Don't know how he beats Soo but can't handle Infinite's or D.Hyo's Mags... EC must be that much better...

I gotta see that video!

Also, haven't been following Evo, so thanks all for the cool vid links and general impressions. I really don't follow the scene at all, but it's entertaining to read about you folks' impressions.

Played some Heavenly Sword demo (like a more confusing GoW, but sort of fun), some Folklore demo (hm, I don't think I like this game, but I need more playing time), and some GT HD (not bad, but you can tell some of the physics aren't there).

all the backstories people have posted so far are fucking crazy cool... cool because of all the WTF stuff.

Bob’s Tekken 6 profile

After losing three consecutive times to Takeru Kobayashi, Bob, a former Canadian Mountie, slipped into a funk, pushing away the support of his friends and family little by little with his new crutch, brewski.

Bob became a regular at a local bar, drinking night after night in a private booth, and no matter how many drinks he downed, he never seemed to get inebriated. It wasn’t long before other patrons and the bartender asked him to participate in the regional beer drinking competition. Though a little reluctant at first, Bob participated and won. Becoming an overnight sensation, Bob finally felt complete, finding the fame he once sought as a Mountie and a Hot Dog Eating Champion.

Bob’s life changed forever while he was in the middle of beer drinking tournament south of the border—members of a military group, calling themselves the Tekken Force, seized the building, putting down anyone who dared to stop them. Armed with a pitcher of beer in one and a closed fist, Bob joined the battle. With each punch thrown and each kick blocked, Bob’s training as a Mountie came back in a swift rush of excitement.

When the battle had nearly ended, only Bob and one Tekken Force member remained. Their tango was brief, and when it was over, Bob stood victorious, but not before learning the name of the man responsible: Jin Kazama.

The announcement of Jin’s 6th King of Iron Fist Tournament soon found Bob’s ears. With thoughts of fame and revenge on his mind, Bob set out to win the tournament and avenge his fans.

I'd love to make a stick like that. I've made one to date, and it's nowhere near as professional. Mine is just a wooden box with a stick and buttons. I used Canadian Poplar, stained it with a dark cherry stain, and put a high gloss finish on it. I prefer the bat style stick, so I bought some Happ parts and wired them to an original PS controller that I bought at EB Games used for 99 cents. It's 18"x5"x11", so it's fairly large. With all of my adapters, it's the best stick I have for PS2, PS3, Xbox, GC, PC, and DC. But I'd love to have a wireless one for my 360 and PC.

Maybe I'll sacrifice my wireless controller for it. . .

2) Bob is stupid. He just looks retarded. Then again, I don't like most people who look distinctly like southerners. Or fat people.

Random question.

I have some imports I want to get rid of, so I'll be giving them out. Do any of the FG regulars want any of the following:

-Dead Or Alive 2 (DC/Non-Import)
-Guilty Gear X (DC/Import w/ Spine Card)
-King of Fighters 99': Evolution (DC/Import w/ Spine Card)
-Puyo Puyo Sun (Saturn/Import)
-Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 (PS2/Import/Non-Best Edition)

can I run KoF 99 on DC with a boot disc? if so, I may take it, though I don't need it.

Yup. I used the Action Replay Demo that was in the UK to play all my import DC games.

To anyone who wants the games, I won't ship them out until next week (around Wednesday) before I help my girlfriend move into her new apartment.

So now KOF99 is on hold for Rolento. Be sure to PM me your name/address to where you want it sent Rolento.

ooookay. that needs to be a joke character. One of my best friends ever is that large (or was) and he could MAYBE throw one punch... then he'd be pwned. So... extremely stupid character for a fighting game.

yeah, I mean, if this guy's "friend" is that fat and he could get his ass kicked, then that means that all people that large would react the exact way.

Looks good. They need to get rid of those gay hit sparks already, talking bout the one in the first pic.

Agreed. I hate hit sparks that like to have sex with hit sparks of the same gender.

I had some of that last weekend at a basement pop-punk show. Not that bad, then again it tastes like it doesn't have any alcohol in it period.

Someone I met there mentioned something about Sparks Black. What's the difference between that and the regular + sugar-free kind?

Also good idea Rolento. I'll keep all the games for the T5DR Online tournament, whenever it happens. I'll throw in a handful of Nintendo 64 games into the prize pool onto of all the import fighters.

Hey hey, you should sell the 64 games to me :)

And regular and sugar-free Sparks are 7%, while Sparks Plus (the black one) is 8%. Other than that there is no difference, except that Sparks Plus tastes the slightest bit more "alchoholey".

I think my first exposure to Sparks was also at a show in Philly.

This wins. Street Fighter 2 on the Commodore 64. You know it's street fighter, cause it says so on the top of the screen.

Pay attention at the 50 second mark, E. Honda does something awesome.

I'm not entirely sure how to embed that.

Hokuto no Ken is sweet, but it's $65 from Play Asia, so it's a tad pricey. Pure fun without a lot of balance

I personally recommend the Last Blade 2 in 1 for $20 from PA. Also Vampire Darkstalkers Collection for $20.

King of Fighters XI is coming out here on Oct. 4th for $20, barring any delays, but the European version has some bugs that hopefully won't end up in the US version. Japanese version is $35 at PA.

Melty Blood Act Cadenza is fun, but it's $60 at PA. Plays really well and you can come up with some sweet combos easily.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is coming stateside for $30 soon, but I don't know if they are fixing the high-level bugs that are in it. I prefer GGXX Slash, which PA has for $30. Also, I like playing as Justice, and he's not in Accent Core.

Garou Mark of the Wolves is ESSENTIAL, especially for $20 from PA. IMO the most balanced SNK fighter ever.

I recommend all of these. The pros here will probably hook you up with more info than I know.

The JP PS2 has all the neat SNK compilations. KoF 95-97, KoF 99-01, hopefully eventually a Samurai Shodown one... But again, a bunch of those are probably US-bound.

yeah i was thinking about melty blood and Fist of the North Star. I have melty blooc RE Act for the PC and it was good. I may wait for some coupon promotion pa maybe having to order those titles.

wow i didnt see Fatal Fury or Last Blade at that price. i may be sold on those immediatley. Thanks for recommendatioins.

integralsmatic - Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves at 20 dollars is an absolute must. Last Blade 2 in 1 is solid, but I'm not CRAZY about the Last Blade games. They sure look nice, and they play good enough, but to me they just don't have the competitive edge that other games have. I don't know if you already have MvC2, but if not, you should be able to get an import version for pretty cheap.

I personally really like Neogeo B.C. and KoF XI as well, but you probably might as well wait for the US versions.

Garou doesn't seem particularly likely to get a US release either... so it's a safe bet to import that one. And yeah, I'll echo what other people have said about it -- it's frickin' great.

I have the DC version of Garou (normal US version, I don't think it's actually called "Garou" except on the in-game title screen). Any serious flaws in that version that would cripple the game for the casual player?

I never got around to playing it much, but the praise it gets showered with among the Fighter regulars makes me want to bust it out again. What's the best way to approach this in a single player mode? Any unlockables?

Oh and this is the game that has a guy named "Butt" in it, right?

Decided not to pick up any more XBLA titles until after I upgrade the 360. Too bad as I have $80 worth of points from teh CC deal that's begging for some Super Puzzle Fighter II HD and SPFIIHD gamer pics. :p

Edit: BTW, is anybody picking up SPFIIHD for PS3? I don't mind doubledipping it (well actually it would be sort of triple-dipping because I have the original version for Saturn import) since the MS points were so cheap.

I'd start out learning one of the new characters, so that as you learn your character you learn the game. I find that people that start with Terry (or even Rock, after playing him in CvS2) never really bother to learn any of the other characters. I find alot of people play as Butt (yes, that's his name :)) because he plays like Ryo. I'd recommend trying to learn one of the original characters. They're all pretty cool, with the exception of perhaps that little monkey kid (I can't remember his name).

I'm not. I finally got back onto Live earlier today, and I bought it for 360. Not gonna bother wasting the money on the PS3 version.

Kushwood Butt is really cool. I used to play as Ryo in KOF, so I felt right at home playing as him. My favorite of the characters new to Garou though was probably Gato. He plays differently enough from the Fatal Fury staples, and he's fun to at least try out.
