I've spotted this coupon on the counter at a local GameStop. This is how it goes.

Get $35 Trade Value for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

*Offer not valid on cash trades. Coupon must be presented & surrendered upon use. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associate for details. No dealers. Offer expires 9/30/07.

Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner, so I can't scan the coupon (anyone who can do so, please feel free to scan and post a link here) but you can find the coupon in store. That's basically a month to play it, then trade it in. Edge Card brings that up to $38.50. Anyone who took advantage of the Target.com pricing error may even benefit in extra credit on this.

what is the deal?

So this means you'll get $35 back after paying $50.

I mean if you paid in advance, beat the game and need money this is a good deal. I think Blockbuster charges $9.99 for video game rentals so if your gonna spend 40+ hours to beat this game this is more of a longer rental.

Eh...

K and this is a deal how? You're paying $50 for $35 store credit. You'd be better selling it on ebay and getting cash.

DUMB. You'll probably get the exact same ammount going through ebay. If you keep up with newly released games on ebay you'll see that shit falls 10 or 15 bucks fast. This is a deal. Sure you're losing money when you initially buy it but I can guarantee the most you'll get for it after a few weeks on ebay or anywhere will be 40 bucks. and 38 dollars for it at Gamestop is pretty damn close... and easier.

Most likely taking advantage of this. Target.com is my hero. Then I can pick it up again when it hits 20 or so.:D

This is actualy a decent deal. Nice to have a bit of insurance in case you can't sell it to another CAG.

Wow.
You know you can rent a game for about 1/4 of the $15 you'd spend and if you liked it you could then go on ebay and buy and you just saved yourself $10. Or use goozex. Or craigslist. Pretty much anything is better than these criminal pre-buyback "deals".

I really don't see why some people get so hostile whenever these trade in deals are posted.

You should be paying $45 at most. The EB 20% off coupon will still be valid on the Metroid Prime Corruption release day.

LOL.

Sure you can rent it, and then probably re rent it again because you didn't beat it. You can use ebay, goozex, or craigslist, but my point is... If you are getting this game on day one and feel like selling it less than a month later THIS IS A DEAL. People need to cut the hippie GS/EB are shady corporate businesses talk (We know they're pretty shady no need to repeat it in every GS/EB thread). Show me one place that gives you full dollar for something you bought. I'm talking about hole in the wall, mom and pop type places too.

For those that took advantage of the target mistake in their add ($29.99 for this game) this is a good deal. I'm one of them but I plan on keeping my copy.

I'm just trying to reconcile jeremy517's point, which is that this is CAG and no one should have paid $50 for it anyway, with reality, which is that if GS/EB can find someone to seel a used game to for $45 plus tax, you should easily be able to find someone to sell it to for $40-45 without tax (giving someone else a deal and netting more for yourself).
My attitude towards GS/EB is neutral - I go where the math takes me.

Most people who are buying used games for $45 at Gamestop aren't the type who will buy from random people on eBay, CAG, TGN, or anywhere else. People who buy used games for $45 are people that usually buy their games for $50 new and think it's a great deal that they can save $5.

I'll prolly take advantage of this. You have to remember that $35 is hassle-free unlike ebay/craiglist/goozex and requires little to no effort. Plus I did the pre-order special at Liongames (first time, fingers crossed) so I only paid $10 for it. I wouldn't have bought this game at launch if there wasn't nothing to play on the Wii in the first place. [triple negative beat that]

I think $10 was the DEPOSIT. You are going to pay more than that to actually get the game, right?

I guess the Seattle area must just be very viedo game-friendly. It tends to be much more of a hassle to deal with EB/GS than any of the other methods around. Based on everyone's responses on this thread and in previous threads I think I'm in the minority, and I'll just count myself lucky and stop pissing people off. Please realize that I really was just trying to suggest some ways that work for me to get more out of a trade.

Interesting, but it'd just be better to rent if you had the intent to not keep it after you buy it. Personally if you buy the game you might as well just keep it or just wait a week and find it for rental.

I'd feel burned if I bought the game for 55 bucks, beat it, then just sold it back for, what, 38 dollars trade-in credit? That's not enough to get anything else on it's own so you have to spend another 30 or so to even get something with the trade-in unless you have a large mount of credit.

Well when you think about it, it's basically like this. Get the game for $50 or however much it may be with tax. Enjoy it for a month, then trade it in. With the card tacked on with the coupon, you'll basically have spent anywhere between $11.50 to $16 (depending on how much you originally paid for the game) for the game. Yeah, more than a rental but there's also the hassle of actually hoping there's any in stock whether it be an online rental or a regular store.

That and eBay pretty much gets you the same cost for newer released, used titles, if even at that. You gotta end up hoping the auction ends as high as you'd hoped or even dealing with whatever people may be buying it. For all you know, they could be trying to rip you off or just placing bids and not sending any money afterwards.

The main reason I posted this was because I noticed that generally everytime there's a bonus for trading-in Wii games or anything that includes the Wii, there are some people here who ask about the prices of newer titles and trade them in. Considering the fact that the prices usually vary between $25 to $30 for newer releases, $35 + Edge Card is pretty damn decent. ESPECIALLY for those who took advantage of Target.com's error and had reserved the game a full total cost of $30 + shipping.

The same people who pre-ordered Bioshock LE, Rock Band and Halo 3 Legendary Edition. Were not that cheap. ;)

You're posting on CAG and you're saying that $38 is not enough to buy anything on it's own? That's just ludicrous, you shouldn't be buying any games for more than $38.

Eh? What kind of person trades in a Metroid game. You crazy people.

This would be a good deal if the extra $10 on trading in a Wii game were to continue past next week. As it stands, I can pretty much guarantee my ability to get more than $38 for the game on Half.com. Also, going to the post office is just as easy as going to EBgames. Unless sticking a game into the envelope sends you into to a hospital for over exertion.

Well obviously you can't do it for every game at every time of the year (especially when in some areas some CAGs can't exploit deals as easily as others) - but seeing as how we all came off of the great recent deals at EB/GS (Trade 2 Wii/PS3 games get one free, 10 extra on two DS/PSP games, 10 extra per Wii/PS3 game), I figure plenty of us have tons of credit that only cost a fraction of its actual cash value.

But yea, I'll probably take advantage of this deal. All things considered, if I buy it from them with 50 of my credit there - which probably was only 20 cash in actuality - getting 38 back is pretty damn nice.

Could we modify the OP's title to indicate that this deal is for trading in MP3, not trading something in to get MP3 cheaper (as I thought it was when I read it)?
