Just because SEGA has abandoned the Dreamcast, doesn't mean gamers have. Better yet, it doesn't mean developers have! Next year will see two new DC games: Dalforce and Wind and Water Puzzle Battles. The games are being published first quarter 2008 by RedSpotGames, who recently released Last Hope for the Dreamcast and the NEO GEO. Dalforce is a vertical shooter with 11 levels, 4 player mode and lots and lots of bullets. The other game is a port of puzzle game Wind and Water Puzzle Battles. It will have 4 player mode and exclusive DC characters. No word on pricing or distribution sources, but both games will be on display in Leipzig, where hopefully Team K will get us hot hot hands-on impressions.

I have to say, this is pretty awesome. I wonder if this will make it to the states? Doubtful :(
Still.. pretty cool. I came to the DC late in life, but I honestly think it's my favor console DESIGN ever. There's something about the console that looks just so cool.

sounds interesting, and it's always good to see that even if a manufacturer gives up on it's hardware, there are still devs out there that care.

Woo! I just love how the DC still has a couple of games that come out each year. I talk to people about consoles land how they die and I always mention that the Dreamcast still to this day has games coming out for it. I think the PS2 will in a way be a Dreamcast. I mean it has amazing support right now and I think that the installed base will be a huge factor down the road.

This makes me smile. :)
Dreamcast is a great product. May it never die. It's tiny, good looking and looks a helluva lot better than XBOX (and 360, IMO), PS2, PS3 or GC (and come on, this is before Ipod days) it's totally durable (my housemate knocked it off a table and it crashed violently onto the floor... minor scuff but it powered up NO PROBLEM) had an extremely strong launch. Man, it was even on-line. This was the second serving of the halcyon days for Sega. All this has been said before before but, HELL i'll say it again.
I'll sing it from the god damned mountain tops.

Man... this system won't die. Trigger Heart was really good from what I played, and Under Defeat is one of my favorite shmups ever, so yeah, even though it's been dead for like 6 years, the system still gets the occasional gem.
Though I can't say I'm excited about either of these...

Word to manufacturers: If you want your system to live forever, make it super-easy to homebrew on. Even if that assists in causing your system to die financially (due to easy counterfeiting and burning), isn't everlasting life better than a few bucks? Well, isn't it? Uh...hello?
I dunno, I'm a little skeptical of Dalforce. Isn't redspot the same group who did Last Hope? I'm all for shooters, and all for new DC games (I thought that was done with Sega stopping GD-ROM production earlier this year, though?) but Last Hope wasn't very good and I'm glad I didn't buy it.
I'll reserve final judgement until I see some screens and video of the game.

This isn't that odd, actually. A shooter or two occasionally come out for the Dreamcast now and then.

I posted this news elsewhere, but here's a clip from one of the kick ass titles:

So... what's the advantage of releasing games on the Dreamcast? Regardless of whether you love the games on it or not, there is nothing that makes the hardware great for commercial games.

The major advantage is that you can release games for the Dreamcast. There's a reason you're not seeing this stuff released on other or conteporary systems.
Beyond that, the development environment was supposedly pretty friendly, and some devs still like it because it's cheap to make games for. For the Japanese market, it's also a fairly straight shot to port a NAOMI-based arcade game to the Dreamcast.
