i messed up the speaker plugin on my laptop one day by pulling on the cord while it was plugged in, and today i had a brilliant idea, USB is so versatile, perhaps there are USB to audio adapters. so i googled it, but there are too many choices.
has anyone ever bought one? anyone know a good brand? any help would be greatly appreciated, laptop speakers suck!

I have a Plantronics DSP-500 Headphone for well over a couple years (and counting). It's pretty good. Sound is crisp and microphone is crisp. It has its own soundcard it uses that is attached on the wire of the headphones. Don't know if you want headphones over speakers but just a recommendation on my part.

So basically you have a choice of buying a usb heaphone or a usb sound card right? I think there are sound cards that come from the laptop pci card as well. Personally, I woulg go with the pci card as it is connected inside your laptop and it would seem safer and better sounding to me. Once again, check around newegg for prices. Also, what would be your price range?

We use these at work all the time and love em. Rock solid has great features and is right around $30. I would go for that with a nice pair of head phones.
