If not for the stage selection screen with Wii buttons showing, I'd absolutely believe this was a DS title. Holy shit, midway. I love the Wii, but I really got a kick out of these screens. Even EA is trying with the Wii. Midway must have thrown this shit together in 2 months.

Cruisin' always had crappy graphics, even on N64. The series should have stayed dead IMO.

I think they honestly did a straight port of the N64 game. It takes effort to even make the text pixelated.

I thought it was screenshots for one of them maybe coming to the VC. But can not believe this is being released for the Wii(and probably $50 when it comes out).

NeoGAF is saying this was outsourced. Probably to some indian programmers making $3 an hour. Midway still is backing this and allowing it to be sold. They have no defense.

It looks like it's natively in 320x200/240, or basically the PSX and N64 resolution.

I hate to agree, but that certainly does look like crap, especially when we know that GCN/Wii can produce Soul Calibur 2, Zelda, Metroid, and a slew of other titles with fantastic graphics. Even you comparison shot to Crazy Taxi looks nice.

I was actually discussing Far Cry for the Wii to a friend earlier today.
If you know me at all, I'm absolutely not a graphics whore in any way and make fun of everyone who is. That said, the graphics on Fry Cry completely detracted from the game experience. Not that it was good to begin with, but I seriously compared it to an N64 game, and my dad (who bought it) agreed immediately. The framerate, fog, textures, geometry... all of it straight from 1996.
We promptly traded it in with another game for Super Paper Mario.

If you want to know why this is being released, look no further than your local Chuck E. Cheese.
All of them have Cruisn' World, and they're insanely popular with little boys. If this had been released a year ago, my son would have begged for it, no matter how crappy the graphics. I would never have heard the end of it.
Now he wants Motorstorm.
Ubisoft already won that race by a mile with their shitacular ports.
Ubisoft Wii games were the ONLY games I traded in ever since the PS1 trade in deals for Chrono Cross. They were just that bad.

The Wii can do graphics on par or better than the original Xbox, yet because of perceptions that the Wii is underpowered, publishers feel okay with putting software out that looks like this.
I will admit to being a HUGE fan of Crusin USA back then. But this is NOT the way to update it. The way to update it would be to do the PGR street level detail thing across the whole country, literally. Make a few different paths to take, but one unified route across the whole country, it could be a blast if it was done right, letting you run circuit races within the overall race, upgrade your car, buy new cars, have to refuel, etc.

Its unlikely that the team that is that lax on the presentation will be putting a lot of work into gameplay.
Theoretically, if it were the case though, and they charged a lower price for it, that would be fine. Hell, they could make it look even worse as long as they priced it accordingly, as far as I care.

As fun as it is to rip on ugly images, I believe there's an explanation:
What I truly believe happened here, is that whoever took the screenshots deinterlaced them, thus causing crazy jaggies. This happened a lot with early PS2 screens. It basically cuts the quality in half. That explains why the text looks so bad, too.
When I used to use our screencap program to take shots for Game Informer, this was a big problem. But, you often have to deinterlace because the scrolling parts of an image appear super blurry. I used to just wand those areas and only deinterlace them. Something tells me whoever took these will get a program upgrade in the near future -- or an employment downgrade.
I'm sure it looks much better in practice -- though probably not as good as a Wii game should.

well.. aside from jaggies there's the atrocious mid-90s fast and furious wannabe design, the low levels of detail, low environment detail, and blurry textures. It just looks assy all around.

ya know, this was one of my favorite arcade games about 20 years ago. The handling was excellent, the graphics were good for the time, and looking at these pics just makes me cringe.
Of course, if this is $4.99 in a couple of years, and i eventually pickup a Wii, then i will almost certainly get this,

We all know the whole "Wii = two GameCubes stuck together" thing. That gives it slightly more juice than an OG Xbox. So why the hell does it keep getting games that aren't even on par with Cube games, visually?
