just got done playing some gears on live. 1 group of guys was real cool and they where fun to play with, the other group that I played with was a bunch of immature little kids. I hate that. You'll come across a ton of them on XBL (or any online service). That's one reason I rarely jumped into random online games anymore.
Anyway, today was an okay gaming day, but the rest of the week looks bright:
-Downloaded Tekken 5 DR online and playing it.
-Downloaded Puzzle Fighter HD for PS3 and played it.
-Played the Folklore demo early this morning (love the game too much)
-Played some Brave Story on PSP.
I'll open my copy of Wild Arms 5 and play that soon. I hope to get Warhawk next, followed by Jeanne D'Arc and DW Gundam.

Well you see, if I have interest in a game and it ends up getting mediocre reviews I'll at least rent it/buy it cheaper. I have a chance to get it cheap from credit when I turned in some games so I'm at least going to give it a shot. If I hate it well I'll trade it back in, or throw it on e-bay, or sell it to a friend. Either way I am going to play it because there are a shit load of games that received bad reviews that I still ended up liking. I don't let reviewers tell me what to like and what not to like I'll decide that myself.

Well I hope they're wrong and you guys do enjoy it. Better sell quick, though. I remember my $50 Rebel Strike was barely worth $15 a few weeks later.
System Shock 2 is so freaky. Even these old ass low poly models manage to creep me out sometimes. Few games have actually given me such a real sense of dread about continuing into a new area. Annelid Arachnids and Assassins have to be the worst. The way the assassins sneak up on you just sucks. The voice acting of the hybrid characters and the midwives is very creepy too. I remember one room with a bunch of eggs in it, so I started blasting them, then all of a sudden this twisted female voice comes "For this, I'll tear out it's spine..." and then the you hear her mechanical footsteps approaching.. I cannot wait to play Bioshock after this.

I cant believe that people are still picking up lair after being univerally panned. I always thought Factor 5's games had sucked after the first rouge squadron on the gamecube. The only reason the second was decent was because it has a co-op version of the 3rd game.
This is just another one of those games that look pretty but have absolute shit for gameplay. The need to put in the options for non motion control and to have some analog suppot. If warhawk can do it then why cant lair?
Im cancelling my preoder for lair and offically declairing it the biggest let down of the year.

F-Zero GX. I didn't even know there was a master mode to unlock! Fuck!
I have a love-hate thing going on with this game. Not because of the difficulty, I can deal with that. I love it because it has, hands down, the best racing ever. 30 racers hurtling down some of the psychadelic, fucked-up corkscrews imaginable. It's Mario Kart meets Sonic meets god damn awesome. Some of the levels (the pipe ones, especially the fire-themed course) are a little weak, but that's not my complaint.
My complaint is that it's so damn unfinished. Only 4 people in multiplayer? Boo. The best courses and modes only available in story mode? Fuck that! I want to race my brothers and 27 AI opponents in "speed" mode, or down a rock-filled canyon trail. As it is, the game is just far too limiting. A shame, because the actual racing is solid as a rock.

I too liked GX, but I wasn't a fan of the eventual snaking BS that people found out about. I was good, until my friends discovered it. Then I stopped playing.Like I said, the multiplayer is poorly done in general. I really just play it to race the computer.
And come to think of it, I'm not really competing against the AI racers. I'm playing against the course. In Mario Kart if you hit an environmental hazard or fall off the track, you lose a bit of time, get some awesome weapons, and you're back in it. In F-Zero, you hit something too hard or you fall off, you're dead. It can be cheap at times - like when you get sideswiped by ten other racers who hit the turbo you missed and send you into the wall, or when bumpy terrain tosses your 2000+kg steel death machine into a conveniently placed lake of molten something-or-other despite anything and everything you do. But that's the way I fucking like it.

I really don't know what to say about the reviewers bitching about the controls after that.Lair = Sony's answer to the Wii? ;) I don't know where you are or where she played, but it seemed that the reviewers didn't have trouble initally, but in later missions.
Tonight, I have a choice between continuing Final Fantasy III or Skies of Arcadia, or starting Metroid Prime 3. My PS2 might need some lovin' too, haven't popped anything in that since I finished Rogue Galaxy a month ago. Until I decide to start playing, not sure how that choice will be made.

Heh, probably not the answer :-P
I was mainly showing her my new sound setup and what better game than LAIR to show it off?
Then I showed her how it controlled and she seemed surprised so I let her try. She did the first level where you're just flying through rings and then most of the first mission until she said she has no time to play and left :-P
Besides that, I'm pretty far in the game I think and haven't had much problem. IDK...I think one reviewer decided to give it low scores so the rest followed.

I'm gonna finally tackle the original Metroid Prime and then Echoes to get me pumped for when I get Corruption.

Retro are geniuses. MP3 gives me the same excitement to play it and explore new areas that I got 15 years ago with the original Super Metroid. All the games in the Prime series have been like that, but MP3 is the strongest in level design yet. I cannot wait to see what these guys will do with some original IP.

oh and stuntman ignition is actually almost the same first game with basically all the bad parts of it taken out. If you fuck up, you can still pass (heck, I missed almost all the director requests and still got a 5 star rating on one level). Loading is imediate... no waiting... It's pretty damn good of a follow up for the first game.
I played GHII and ForzaII Last night...GRAWII campaign the night before...Hopefully tonight my co-workers won't flake and we'll do the co-op GRAWII thing tonight.

I'm kinda thinking about selling at least BioShock once I'm done. I'm not sure there's a whole lot of reason to keep it after I'm done as I see too many games coming out in the next 6-12 months for me to think that I'll have time to replay it. The same might be true of Metroid.

There are some similarities, yes, but not that many. The only similarities I can think of are that you're flying and shooting stuff, and the way you take down a warbeast is similar to the way you take down a AT-AT.

I've been playing Warhawk too much lately. I absolutely love the multi-player and I never get sick of it. The aerial battles are too awesome. Tekken 5 DR online is also a lot of fun, but I'm worse than I thought at Tekken. :( I've been playing Puzzle Fighter II HD and love it. I haven't really played Persona 3, but I did play Wild Arms 5. Got finished with Norion in the first, and found that a couple levels makes a huge difference in FFIII as I was easily able to take out the two bosses preceding the World of Darkness. Think I'll take care of a few optional sidequests before moving on there.
I'm sure that some of the changes made to Prime 3 are a turnoff or "meh" to big fans of the series, but for someone like me who never really got into the earlier games, I really enjoy the addition of people besides Samus and the slightly bigger focus on story.

My highest recommendation is FEAR. The 360 version was, by comparison, a steaming pile of shit. Plus, you can get the expansion for FEAR on the PC. I'd also highly recommend Far Cry, which is nothing like it's console counterpart...
I'd also strongly recommend Tomb Raider Anniversary. It looks really good on the PC and it's, despite being a TR game, actually really fun.
And while I've never been into RTS games much myself, there's a select few I really like... namely Dawn of War. At least give the demo a shot.

Ah, good call! We talked about FEAR a long time ago, but after seeing that the 360 and PS3 versions turned out like shit, I just forgot about it. Now I gunna max that biatch.
The new tomb raider games are also a must buy for me...been meaning to play Legend forever. Finally found a 360 version for $10, but since I ordered the PC a few days later, I traded that shit right back in
So what about asian made games for the PC? J-rpgs? anything like that?
also, my parts got here today. well, everything but the graphics card, which Dell shipped via DHL. Who the hell uses DHL? That's the freaking Diet Rite of shipping services...card is supposed to get here monday. argh.
As a devout AZN (in a white man's body), I'm disappointed that there's really not much in the way of J-RPGs on the PC... at least, not in English. It's expensive, but maybe consider picking up Melty Blood AC Version B. It's got a lot of touches that make it a much more enjoyable game overall. Apart from that, I recommend:

I was hoping the 360 version would run the game close to the maxed out settings of the PC version, but a lot of people were saying it wasn't as smooth. plus, I'm a ~60fps whore. the $60 price tag was laughable, considering the PC version was already around $19-29.
edit: looks the game actually is on par graphically according to reviews, but still, I can get a higher framerate and use a mouse and keyboard, so there's really no reason to get the 360 version. if anyone says achievements, I'll slap them

I wouldn't say that FEAR's 360 counterpart is on par with the PC version... not if you turn on shit like soft shadows or any of that nonsense.
And in other news, I said id right a review of SUper Castlevania 4 and I finished wrote this review... faster than I expected something like that to get done. Okay:

Working on Daxter PSP right now. Just finished MegaMan Powered Up on Easy with Mega, so I'll take a break from that for a little before I tackle it with the other characters and difficulties. Game seems endless.
I have 11 other PSP games to play, and I'm not sure what to tackle next. Probably Tekken or Katamari. I've got a sidecroller in Megaman so I don't want to start Maverick X, and I have a platformer/adventure in Daxter so I don't want to start Ratchet and Clank. Might crack open Lumines and get my puzzle on.
Also eagerly awaiting my Playasia ordering consisting of Nodame Cantabile for the Ds, as well as the Hori touch pen attachment, a Yoshi DS stylus, and and NSMB figure.

I think I'm done with FFIII... got fairly well handled by the end boss. I guess I did pretty well since he got to the point where I was consistently being hit with the a 75% damage attack as one of his four. Don't really have any interest in replaying that last God knows how many hours since the last save opportunity, so I'll just pretend I beat it.

So what'd you think of FFIII overall, bot? I'm really, really close to selling it after playing only about 30 minutes. Just seemed extremely average. As of right now, I'm thinking the FF's before IV were ultimately worthless.
*Thinks of how incredibly awesome FFIV DS is going to be*
Gawd I hope FFIV is out this year.

Gawd I hope FFIV is out this year.I'd recommend sticking with it for a bit longer before making a decision. Once you get the first handful of new jobs, you get a lot more opportunity to tune your party how you want. And really, I didn't get into the game until I had played it for ten hours, put it down for a few months, and then started it back up. Played 15 hours in the last week or so. Airships make it so much more bearable.
However, it's not going to stack up to IV and VI, if you're looking for story. While they did a great job of adding some additional story elements above and beyond what you would have seen in the first game, it's still pretty barebones. I love the 3D though, can't wait for the inevitable VI DS, as long as they don't screw up Sabin's character design.

I've been gaming a bit more lately, due to taking a little break.
On PS3, I've been playing Warhawk online, mostly dogfighting. The game is still a lot of fun to play. I opened Dynasty Warriors GUNDAM on it and I'm enjoying that too. Definitely very addicting. I play a little Tekken 5 DR Online.
On PSP, I'm about to open Jeanne D'Arc, but in the mean time, I'm playing a certain game which I'm reviewing/previewing, that won't be out for a while. Not telling which game that is. ;)
On PS2, shockingly that I'm not playing Persona 3. I decided to play Wild Arms 5 instead, since I'm mostly a Wild Arms fanboy. I'm really loving it and it may be my favorite in the series.
On 360, nothing much, other than an occasional Bomberman Live and Streets of Rage 2. I really need a new 360 game, but the game I want most comes out soon, Eternal Sonota. Blue Dragon is the only game I really want, which I haven't purchased, but it's 8th on my wislist currently.
On DS, I occasionally play Sonic Rush, but I'm about to open Mega Man Star Force Leo soon. I may get a few more DS games and start to play mine more.

Played some co-op map GRAW2 w/teh co-workers late last night. Fun time, when the connection was stable.
Today, the wife went to a baby shower, so I played some T5DRO arcade and survival mode while the kiddies are takin' their afternoon nap. I just loves me this game, but I'm sooooo horrible at it.
Also, I just finished playing the PS3 Stranglehold demo just to see what I got myself into. Haven't read any forum feedback on it yet, but I will say here that it's disappointingly choppy and "jaggier" than the 360 demo. Could that be why de game be delayed? Lol at teh 1337 MB size.

I'm fighting the last boss in Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and it's annoying as hell. I have below half of my health and no armor. There is no health to be found anywhere, which is gay because the boss fight with the tank, which was super easy, had like 2-4 health pickups. By the time I get the chest opened for armor and it's loading it on, it's half gone again. Switching guns also lowers my bar. I'm basically doing it dead. This sucks. I came close to beating him but some mother fucker from behind killed me. Didn''t pop up the whole time I was in the same location but right when I'm about to beat him they come from behind. Chacy, I've gotta say that I woleheartily disagree with your review of Wii Sports.
Well, let me qualify that. I don't care for the game at all as a single player. For that, 3/10 would be about right I think as it's just pretty boring. But as far as multiplayer goes? It's perhaps the best party game ever made. Bowling and Tennis are fantastic, golf, baseball, and bowling are obviously less than stellar, but can still be fun.
Now if you have no one else to play with because they're not interested or not around, that could seriously but a damper on your outlook on the game. Part of the charm of Wii Sports to me is the thing that your aveage too-cool CAG member hates is that it does get non-gamers playing. I love that I've played Tennis against my Dad and Grandma and that my inlaws have played my wife and I in bowling. It adds a novelty to the experience that I've seen no other game capture.
Maybe that's it. As a video game, Wii Sports isn't necessarily the most fantastic thing on the planet. But it really melds into something more when a group of people come together. It borrows from people's love of board games, chatting, ribbing on each other, and just otherwise desireing to have fun as a family or a group of friends and enhances that.
That sounds way too gay and esoteric to be taken even remotely seriously. But, long story short, because your opinion is different than mine, you obviously have no friends, no family, and probably no electricty. That is all.

like Daroga, I'd have to disagree with the Wii Sports review too. well, agree as a single player game.
Like everyone else, Wii Sports captured the full attention of everyone in my family at Thanksgiving and Xmas last year. It was a shitload of fun. I have no doubt the game will be busted out again this year and I'm looking forward to it. The last time my parents or siblings tried gaming was like 10 seconds with SMB1 when we got it in 1986. They quit after dying on the first goomba
So for that, I'd bump the score up to sentimental/10.
Chacrana
09-08-2007, 11:30 PM
Haha... okay, fair enough. I did play the game with friends on a few occasions, but the sessions only lasted for 10-15 minutes. It just wasn't that fun and we ended up going back to playing Smash almost immediately. The novelty of the Wiimote is interesting, but I couldn't enjoy playing the game no matter the circumstances. While I'm sure that casual gamers love the game, I don't think that really warrants giving the game a higher score when I never once found the game enjoyable.
So yeah, difference of opinion. It's really a polarizing game.

Have you tried Wii Sports with some people who don't play games much, though? My gamer friends and I have yet to play it together, but I've played a ton with people who aren't gamers and it's a blast. If I've got gamer-skilled friends around there's plenty of other stuff I'd rather play, but Wii Sports is a ton of fun with another segment of people.
And Jekki? Mega Man Powered Up ROCKS. Tough as nails in places, but I love it. It, Maverick Hunter X, and Loco Roco are the 3 "gotta have" games on the system I think.

If I had the money I'd get Dead Head Fred and something else. But I really shouldn't spend it.
Played Tekken DR on the PSP last night. I fucking hate Jinpachi.

Jeez this is a bad time for this sale. I want to pick up heavenly sword next week, and then stranglehold for ps3 and world in conflict. Then halo 3 the next week and the week after the orange box.
After thinking about that and wanting to save up for a new HDTV this black friday, im gonna have to pass over this sale.
Im playing Jeanne D'Arc I think im about half way done with act 3 anyone know how many acts there are?

I finished that damned Metroid Prime 2 review. Or at least mostly finished apart from a few minor things I'll inevitably change. That was oddly difficult to write. Well anyway, the review is...:

Cyberball and Fatal Fury is the only thing I've really played this week. Outside of my brain training.
I'm tempted to stock up on PSP before I get the Daxter pack. I'm leaning towards Parappa and Loco Roco.

Metroid is a ton of fun... I'm really glad I didn't wait to play through the first two games before starting the new one. Not even sure I'll be able to go through those at this point due to the controls, probably just gonna sell them while they're fetching decent money.
