(If this should go in a deals discussion or request forum, can a mod please move it?)

Well, grad school's gonna start soon (Tuesday!) and we've just moved to a new apartment that is fairly small without a room for me to study in. So, I'm looking for a decent set of headphones to serve the following purposes:

1) Allow my wife to use them in conjunction with our stereo / TV ( both have easy-to-get-at headphone jacks on them) while I do work if she's watching something.
2) Allow me to play games every now and then without disturbing my wife if she's working or headed to bed.
3) Allow me to hook them into my computer while I'm working to listen to music and/or just block out the sound around me.

Probably #3 is how I'd use them most often, but I've been really thinking about getting some for #2 for a while now. Anyone use headphones to play games? In high school I had a great set of fairly cheap KOSS headphones. They were big and bulky, but they had nice bass and worked well... till someone stepped on them since I left them on the floor ;) I think I'd like to get an over-the-ear or at least cover-the-ear set rather than an ear-bud style as they'd not be traveling but staying at home so size isn't an issue.

I had been looking at noise-canceling ones a bit. These Sony ones (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-NC6-Noise-Canceling-Headphones/dp/B000629GES/ref=pd_bbs_4/105-0771355-4446810?ie=UTF8&s=generic&qid=1188017089&sr=8-4 ) have caught my eye. They have gotten mixed reviews on their noise-canceling abilities, but I'm just looking to block out kitchen or TV-in-the-next-room noise, not and 747 engine outside my window.

At this point I'm thinking I'm just gonna go to Best Buy and Wal-Mart and pick up a few different sets and try them out, but I was looking for suggestions. Anyone have any thoughts? I'd be looking to be in the sub-$50 range.

My move has left behind in listening. Have a link or an idea of which they were?

Has anyone tried the Creative Fatal1ty set of headphones that are advertised in the Bioshock PC with a coupon for $10 off? I am thinking about that...but I too am in the market for some good headphones.

Bose Tri-port. Love 'em.

Bose is probably a bit out of my price range, as nice as they are. :)

Hmm... well I've been using Sennheiser EH350's for the last year and I absolutely love 'em. They're pretty inexpensive and the sound quality is excellent.

Any clue what the differences are between the EH150 and the EH250? They both seem very highly reviewed and the 150 is more in the price range I was looking into.

I think the 250 has better base, but you should be fine even with the 150's. Sennheiser makes some ridiculously good headphones.

<3 Sennheiser. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-485's, which I settled on after doing a good amount of research on headfi.org.

Here's are two closed-ear Sennheiser cans you might want to check out, both in your price range:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-202-Headphones/dp/B000065BP9/ref=pd_bxgy_e_text_b/002-8838640-8042427?ie=UTF8&qid=1188021486&sr=1-10

Both are closed-ear headphones and seem to have gotten mostly glowing reviews from Amazon customers.

Note: While doing my research lurking on headfi.org, I noticed the general consensus among audiophiles is that Bose products are a huge rip-off. I steered clear of them when narrowing down my search.

I hype them whenever I can, but the Tritton AX360's. 5.1 with a headset that can be used for Xbox 360, PS2, and any other 5.1 source. They accept both optical and coaxial sources, which is great if you want to use coax to hook these up and optical to hook up your system to your receiver or whatever. I knew I made a good decision when I saw that Infinity Ward used them to play Call of Duty 4 during their community day a couple weeks back. Can't recommend them enough. Though they're wired and not cheap, and I'm not sure whether they work with the PS3 or not, as I haven't tried them.

I love my Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones. Sennheiser makes the best headphones IMO. They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. The only negative to me is the coiled up cord, which doesn't like to stretch out to a good length without pulling on either the connection or the headphones, so I use an extension cable. I also love the "32 dB attenuation of outside sound" which blocks enough sound with music playing that you don't hear much outside noise. I use them when I want to drum alongside a track.

Had these for 2 years now and I freaking love them. It is the closest I'll get to my wicked surround system, but they cover my ears :)

Not cheap though $300.00 bucks, when I got them they were $400 but man oh man are they worth every stinking penny.

There's a noticeable difference in quality between $10 headphones and $30 ones. I picked up a Sennheiser to replace my inexpensive headset, and there was a huge difference between the two (the Sennheiser is louder and clearer at 5% than my old one is at 60% volume on my computer). At first, I was hesitant about spending $30+ on headphones when I could pick up a inexpensive Sony for $10. After trying it out though, I feel that it was worth the expense.

That said, I'd also recommend a Sennheiser.

I picked up a pair of Sennheiser EH150s today. I'm gonna sit down and give them a go on the EC now, but my time earlier with my iPod and DS were impressive, I thought.

Thanks for the help guys!

Those headphones in the op are shit, my bro has them, in order for them to have any sound it requires a battery and I kept finding myself leaving the headphones on. Also they only way to block out sounds with this things are to turn it up, those don't go around your ears or anything. Not recommended.

You don't need to turn on the headphones for it to have sound. It works just like regular headphones. You turn them on only if you want to block out the small noises.
