Finished the FF2 half of DoS recently- anyone else play it?

The thing I disliked the most was the supid leveling up system. It was a real pain in the butt for me because you had to repeatedly cast the spells to level them up and also let your characters get hit to raise their HP, and drain their MP to increase max MP. I like the standard way of XP better. Anyone else agree?

I started the Soul of Rebirth thing for FFII but don't think I will finish it as it basically involves an inordinately large amount of this leveling-up tedium to complete, and frankly I am sick of it now :)

I hated any game that use those battle mechanics, every action will improve your character. This system can be easily abused and the stat grinding becomes very redundant to prepare for boss fights or difficult dungeons. Contact also uses the same system and I hated it. I never understood why people like that game? Nothing really stood out from that game besides the earthbound designs.

You can see the final fantasy retrospective series from gametrailers, to get quick summary of the whole final fantasy series and evolution of the whole series.

You can cheat the stat-based system super easy and have super character within a matter of hours from the start of the game.

My buddy's strat was to put everyone in the back row and give them all bows. Then he put the big burly dude (he's green, can't remember his name) in the front row. They all attacked or healed with spells while the other guy took all the damage.

After a while, he just started attacking himself in a battle.

He had 5k+ HP characters within a few hours.

I like that system because it's so easy to cheat. Didn't care for the fact that the game could all of a sudden throw you an enemy you literally couldn't hurt if you walked one tile the wrong way, though. That was annoying.

Wow nice videos! I watched the Metroid and Legend of Zelda series too, excellent overviews. Cool to get the background/story and info on some of the older classic games that I will not play.
