Hi guys-- if I were to say get a Japanese DS Lite (like the sweet new Silver one) what would I need to know? I know the power cord won't be up to US standards, but would the system charge with a typical American charger (i.e. I buy a charger in addition to the Japanese DS)?
Anything else that wouldn't work? Is there an option to put the menus/home screen in English?
Thanks

No difference from the US system at all, including the charger. The only trick is that the system will default to Japanese when you first turn it on... but if you've ever used any DS before, it's not to hard to find your way into the language menu and change it to English.

Warranty won't be valid w/ NOA since it's from Japan, if that concerns you at all. But otherwise everything else is identical, as others have already said.

I don't plan on breaking my DS, so that shouldn't be a problem... I've got a used one now and that has no warranty either.

Just want to mention more details about this. Japan and US both use 110 voltage, and the plug is the same so, yeah, you shouldn't have any problem with the charger.

Actually Japanese electricity is 100V @ 50 or 60Hz depending on what part of the country you're from. Concerning electronics, I definitely don't chance it unless the plugs state that it accepts electrical inputs within that range. Most Japanese electronics seem to accept 100-220V, but the US DS Lite charger only accepts 120V. I would suggest calling NOA and talking to them to make sure you can use a US DS Lite Charger with a Japanese DS Lite.
Ideally, any step-down/up conversion is handled within the charger itself, but you never really know how well electronics will handle it. Better to be safe and call to ask.

Considering others have confirmed it's virtually the same and several other people have had no problem with importing DS Lites, I'd say it's safe to say there's really no electrical issues. Now, if the OP was from Europe...
As mentioned, NoA won't cover your Lite should it break since the waranty's only valid with Japan.

I've had a white DS Lite I imported since launch day, there. Just bought a pink DS Lite a week ago. Same plug for both. No worries, OP.
Even if you were iffy on the plug issue - could you use one of the USB chargers on it? My wife really wants one of the light blue ones.

I am using a USB charger for my DS as I type this :bouncy:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-b5-49-en-70-1ble.html
And I assume that comes from Japan and would work on a DS from Japan.... just wanted somebody to confirm it.
Best Buy also has one that comes with a car charger adapter and a hub that you can use to also charge your gba and ds-old and gba-micro for like $14.

I was looking at it and while the general shape was the same, the connectors were missing some contacts. I suppose that just regulates the charge it receives.
