This game is ridiculously addicting. I've resolved not to continue the main quest, however, until I've learned the Death Gaze spell. Does anyone have any strategies? I've tried about 17 times already.

I am still playing Puzzle Quest (it's the #2 game I play after Picross right now), and the only thing I can tell you about that spell is that getting it is pretty luck-based. When I got it, I was lucky enough to get a Heroic Effort late, which really helped me out.

I stopped playing it after I beat it as a Warrior. Too addicting, but so damn fun. I like destroying things with Berserk Rage and Wild Lore.

I'll get the PSP version once the price drops. But I played the demo it was addictive.

Completed the game as a Druid a while ago, but I'll still be taking it along on my trip next month.

I play it nightly. I'm a level 35 warrior.

I play it almost every day, right now I'm a level 37 druid. And I have to agree, learning the advanced spells is ridiculouly tough!

When is this game coming to XBLA?

I'm a Level 41 Knight. I've heard the knight is the hardest character to get through the game with, and it appears that I suck, which is why I'm trying to learn this spell.

They should have called this "Puzzle Crack" since I play it on a daily basis. I'll be getting the Wii version for sure.

I've played through it multiple times, and I'm maxing out my final character now. I've got all the spells, all of my mounts are level 50, and I still can't stop. Though I have the DS version, I'll still buy the XBLA version, too. Great, great game, if a little imbalanced for multiplayer in the end.

As a tip for researching the spells: Try to get 5-in-a-rows on the special icons. It'll go much faster that way.

I play it casually still. debating if I'm going to get the XBLA version yet.

Yeah, I'm a lv 28 Warrior on my second playthrough. Don't play it 3 hours a day like I used to but it still sees plenty of time in my DS.

A good method i found was to equip the item that doubles your exp, get into ANY fight, then use these 3 spells

Knight's Lord, Vigil and Stun

Stun first to give yourself an extra turn, cast vigil, stun again, knight's lord, stun again (if knight's lord didn't give you an extra turn) and just keep using knight's lord, you'll keep hitting 4 and 5 in a rows, clearing the screen half the time and easily netting 500+ exp every match, vigil will keep your mana reserves WAY UP, just don't forget to recast as needed

I just got it a week or two ago. I have been playing a lot of the Ds lite lately.

I just finished my first play thru with a 51 lvl wizard and the only problem I ran into was when my opponents would have a high magic resistence. It's def. a great game.

That's about where I am right now; near the very end with arbeloths running around everywhere and it always takes me too long just to defeat them on skulls.

I got it a few months ago, but I'm trying to focus on some other games before I REALLY dig into this game.

Love it though.

I guess I should ask the appropriate title question -- who's still playing Puzzle Quest?

I got it late in the game and haven't really stopped playing it since I got it. It's amazing fun...I need to get leveled up, though. Does the game play that much different when you're playing the different classes?

maigoyume

i found knight's the easiest to level up because of the spell "knight's lord" which doubles all exp icons on screen, all you need to do is stun the guy and just SPAM knight's lord, you should continually clear the screen and load up on exp, it works well in conjunction with vigil which gives you back mana for every 4 and 5 chain you get (which you should easily get since you practically fill the screen with exp icons everytime you use knight's lord)

Interesting. I've only played as a Druid so far and it's awesome fun...but I can see that as being a lot easier for leveling up. Are they planning on making a sequel to Puzzle Quest? Also, how different gameplay-wise is the version for the Wii?

Yeah, they're making a sequel. It's some kind of sci-fi story I remember. I'm not sure when it's coming out though.

A sci-fi sequel? Whoa! Is it going to be in the same universe akin to the whole Warhammer and Warhammer 40k?

Got mine off of Goozex and have only scratched the surface. Lots of fun though. Is Wizard rewarding or should I switch off now as I'm early into the game. I see a lot of people go Druid or Warrior.

wizard is ridiculously overpowered. if you like a challenge, i'd switch. if you like the feeling of absolute power, stick with wizard.

I've only done Druid so far...when I finish it I'm def. trying Wizard. What's people's favorite classes?

I just got the game this week--got the last copy at my local GS for $19.99--and I'm already addicted ... despite not even having played past the point I reached in the demo. Went with a knight, which I probably wouldn't have done had I re-read this thread first, but I'll definitely be employing maigoyume's strategy at some point.

I've been playing this off and on for about a month or so. Great game. I chose Wizard for my first playthrough (hardly a challenge at all), and right now I'm a Level 50 Warrior.

I played thru the DS version with the knight, and had no problems, killed Bane on like my 5th try.

It's a good game, but in the end, I felt shafted that there was no wifi option to play with others. It's not like the game is graphics intensive or anything, very disappointed when DS developers pull this kind of lazy crap just because they know the DS games are easy to sell.

Got this in the mail yesterday from Goozex. I started playing on the crapper and then realized an hour had passed. Played it a bit more early this morning VERY fun game and perfect for a handheld system. :D

Picked a knight for my first play through.

I need some general help with PQ. I just got it from Gamefly and with no documentation i'm kinda confused on some things.

During battles, can someone explain what each of the pieces are for? Yellow, Blue, Red, purple stars, etc. I've also seen some pieces with some numbers in them and not sure what they mean. I know breaking those down give you individual points for those pieces, but what does each of them mean individually?

I'm playing a Wizard right now. So it's just like a rpg where i level and get spells and once i have enough mana/energy in battles i cast them just like you would in a rpg?

Also, what about upgrading your kingdom and such. What should i be looking to do?

*Facepalm*

ALL of this is in the tutorial repeatedly! ENDLESSLY! You simply have no excuse to have us give you the game's friggen tutorial! Do they not give the tutorial on GameFly rented games?

Colored pieces = mana. Purple stars = xp. Skulls = damage. Numbered pieces = multipliers, and act as wildcards as well BUT ONLY WORK ON MANA PIECES. Red skulls deal massive damage and explode in a 3x3 square, giving you full credit for all pieces nuked.

Kingdom upgrading, you want a mount ASAP, so work towards that. Then get your forge up so you can start collecting runes. Later, when gold flows like water, you want a temple to buy more stats.

thanks for the response.

i did play through the tutorial and i just didn't quite understand for sure exactely what the colored pieces meant. i knew they were mana, but for some reason i couldn't catch on to really how they are used. now i get it as i looked at my spells and saw each needed a certain amount of each mana color to cast. makes perfect sense now.

sorry

FYI, Target's got the game for $15 now. I know because I just bought it a few days ago. :D

I have no idea what class I'll choose for my first play-through; I'm thinking Warrior or Wizard, but I'm not sure yet. If there's a class that'll make the game easier for me on my first play-through, that'd be nice to know... :-k

Anyway, endgame of Warrior is broken because he has an insta-kill spell. I've seen folks swear by every class and swear at every other class for different reasons.

Disproportionate rage makes me sad.

Anyway, it's good to know that class doesn't matter too much in the game. I figured that Bejeweled skills would matter more, so I'll just have to brush up on those and hope I can hold my own. :)

Well, it changes the face of the spells you get in the game, and I still will never understand those who think Knights are godly. Classes are not at all equivalent to slice down the fanbase into such fanboys. But, you'll make it to the same ending no matter what, and you won't be gimped no matter what, but the... shape of the game on the way there will differ considerably. Try them all out at least once to see the early spells and see what you'd like to pack.
