Thanks for the links, I'm trying this out for sure.

thanks man... but it's too bad my machine won't be able to handle this for a long while. :(

It runs very well on my Athlon 64 3400+, Radeon X850 Pro, and 1 GB of ram if it makes a difference (using average settings and 1280x1020). I haven't tried raising anything yet but I'm pretty sure I can handle high settings.

If anybody with an ATI card installs this make sure to upgrade your drivers. Only the latest drivers can run this game, otherwise it crashes when you try to launch it.

Fairly fun game. Pretty much a more actiony battlefield game.

wow, I shouldve known better than to jump into the demo right away. Nobody knows how to play (only natural since it's their first time) but it's really frustrating. It's really easy when i'm GDF though because I just rampage through the main objectives and they NEVER defend... it's kind of amusing but boring. gonna have to wait for retail release I guess.

Can't believe I forgot about this yesterday. Damn Wild Arms V and my inability to put it down for any real length of time when I have free time.

Good to know that it runs decent with those specs. My rig is about the same with a little bit better processor and twice the ram. Though first I think I'll try launching it without upgrading drivers seeing as I'm lazy as hell.

Oh well, probably need to upgrade drivers for the Crysis demo coming out soon anyways. Assuming my PC doesn't fall over and die in an instant of spontaneous combustion due to the immense heat it'll instantly amass. Well if it does, at least it'll go down proudly. :P

Here's something to ponder. Quake wars runs more smooth and loads faster on max settings on my PC than Battlefield 2.

is this based on the Quake games? If it is is it RTS or a FPS

It is an FPS like the Battlefield Series.

Also does it seem to anyone else that it is immpossible for the GDF to hack that last objective? When I was playing it did seem impossible.

I didn't really like the Battlefield Series much. So I take it this is more based around multi player.

Here's something to ponder. Quake wars runs more smooth and loads faster on max settings on my PC than Battlefield 2. That's because the BF2 engine is, bar none, the worst game engine ever developed. There's a reason why people call it Betafield 2.

is this based on the Quake games? If it is is it RTS or a FPS It's set in the Quake 2 universe and is a FPS.

And that's also why Battlefield 2142 sucks ass: they're still using the BF2 engine.

I uninstalled BF2 not only because it's a lamer, less-fun version of Desert Combat, but because it took FOREVER to load a damn map.

id is always great when it comes to programming and game engines.

I have to disagree with you on this one. IMO the DOOM 3 engine was one of the worst engines of the last generation. That thing took a ridiculous amount of muscle to run at an acceptable level due to its really bad optimization. And that engine was technically handicapped, outdoor environments were terrible in that thing. Most games that used that engine looked identical to each other too.

John Carmack is a genius though so I'm anxious to see how id rebounds from their weak last effort with the new Rage engine. I wasn't too impressed with the video they showed but I will withhold judgement until the first game is released in that engine. I think id is too talented to lay another stinker on us.

I could not agree more, I have a pretty high end comp and I still can't run Doom 3 smoothly with settings all the way up.

Dunno, I've never had problems running Doom 3 Engine on my PC since my last one. It actually produced some pretty damn impressive visuals for the time. It really shines in Quake Wars since it improves on the biggest flaw which is the whole thing with outdoor environments.

However even with all the improvements it is nothing compared to how crysis looks now... of course.

Well I tried it and I didn't like it.

I really wanted this game to be good ever since I saw it like two e3's ago, but it just wasn't that fun.

UT04 assault was way more fun.

I haven't played the demo yet, so maybe someone can answer this for me:

On pub servers, it's hard enough to get your team to capture a friggn' flag. Given the variety of objectives that must be completed in a single map, can attackers actually expect to win on a pub server against an evenly-matched defense?

Well the last objective in the valley map needs to be demoed not hacked. Unless you are talking about about the sheild generator/thingie. I was in the beta1/2 (go id and quakecon) and one thing i noticed when people from the beta jumped onto the demo we just flew up the ranks. I got to some crazy rank with a tree i didn't get to very quickly in the beta on the first server.

when defending lay down as many freakin turrets as possible, and anti arty to back the turrets up, and tanks to back those up. It was a real problem in the beta when you went up against a super good strogg team they can hold the GDF pretty consistantly at a outdoor defense point if they know what they are doing.

Also this engine is way better than the battlefield one, which allowed for some crazy physics and collision detection problems. One thing that someone pointed out (and i didn't really notice it) is that the game engine runs at 30hz and the render runs at 60hz, so the player animations are at 30 frames. But i'm still a huge fan of the game, i'm picking it up on the first day and i can't wait.

This is true but its the only bad engine they've made. The quality of the doom 3 engine has been recognized as inferior by developers as it wasn't adopted nearly as often as the quake 3 engine.

that's mainly because of the outdoor environs issue. Quake wars actually uses the doom 3 engine and it is great. They of course added in the megatexture modifaction.
