I have a BenQ FP222WH LCD monitor. When playing old full screen game like StarCraft, the game will stretch to fit the screen. How can I get it to display normally with black label on the sides?

I have a hanns-g 19 inch 1440x900 monitor, and it simply does not support hardware scaling. I haven't got the patience to set the resolution timings manually in the driver settings, so I have not figured out a way to get some older games to display properly in full screen. I always need to look for workarounds in older games (and some newer ones) If all else fails, I play the game in windowed mode.

To start, you could try out different driver combinations for your monitor and video card.

Not sure if it's the same for you, but when I played games on my laptop (which was widescreen), there was an option in the graphics card settings to prevent the stretching. It was as easy as clicking a checkbox.

Thats true, I know that Nvidia has a feature that lets you switch from hardware scaling, to software scaling. Problem is none of those work for me, my monitor turns into a static looking mess.

What kind of video card do you have OP? Check around the driver settings for scaling options and see if that doesn't work out for you.

I wonder if this is strictly a LCD problem, I have a CRT widescreen and have never had any fullscreen problems.

I have ATI 9800 PRO. I look in ATI CATALYST Control Center and still not working.

I'm starting to run into this problem my self since I just got a Samsung 216bw.

Running some games at native 1680x1050 lags little in some games.

I highly recommend you check out

for solutions to many popular games.

Pajama Man is absolutely right.

www.widescreengamingforum.com (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com) is one of the best sites on the internet. They report on almost every PC game release and grade its widescreen support. Sometimes the users make patches to make games run properly on widescreen monitors... instead of horizontally stretching the image, games should add more image to the left and right, we call this horiz +.

Through the monitor menu (not the video card, but the monitor itself), see if you can enable "1:1 pixel ratio" (or something along those lines). It will force the monitor to keep the aspect ratio of the program, and the image will no longer be stretched.

I wish there was a way to "pillarbox" 4:3 games so they are in original aspect ratio on a Widescreen monitor. I mena via nvidia control panel not on the monitor controls
