Comes out in a few days, and has already been pretty well received in Europe. Anyone picking this up? I love the first Sonic Rush so I'm looking forward to it.

Definitely picking it up unless it sucks for some reason. I hate that I don't have a lot of time to play anything now, I'm going to have to bring my DS and GBA to school :-P.

7.5, 7.0, 7.0 from EGM.

Basically say the normal sonic stages are great, but the adventure stuff sucks and brings it down somewhat.

That was a terrible and rushed collection of reviews.

They made NO mention of the 100 challenges, depth of all the adventuring stuff, the Nintendo Wi-Fi multiplayer, etc.

IGN UK did a better, more thorough review. They gave it a 9.0.

Probably true.

I've never been a big sonic fan, and absolutely fucking loathed the sonic adventure games on the DC because of the fetch quest adventure crap. If I'm going to play a sonic game at all, it should be sheer speed and action.

So I'll definitely skip this one. Haven't been touching the DS much lately anyway.

I'm gonna see if I can hunt this down for my time working in our Library tonight. Anyone find it today and pick it up?

I love the old Genesis games, but I hated Sonic Rush. I think a lot of people were excited that it looked like an old Sonic game, but the hard truth is that the gameplay was nowhere near as good as the older games.
I found it frustrating that all you do is run through the levels at top speed until you smash into a deliberately placed enemy. The old games, though they had many speed segments, were nothing like that.

"Dimps" can suck a fat nut as far as I'm concerned.

You are right. We do need a return to the old style of 2d Sonic gameplay

BUT Rush is like Time Attack mode expanded. The fun is in knowing when to do tricks, when to skip gimmicks and when not to, and learning the routes to stages.

SO yeah I got SRA and I just finished the third level plus a hidden level (a short act to gain more materials). Being forced to repeat stages is a lame way to pull replay out of this game BUT the adventuring on the high seas stuff is fun. It's really easy to do on the stylus.

The bosses are much better than before. Gone is the classic "8 hits and you're dead" scheme of old and in place is a meter. A really big meter (and make sure you set the game to normal and not 3 year old easy). The first boss was that T-Rex robot you see in the trailers and while easy they made sure to make it interesting with all the 3D elements. The squid boss was hella easy too but I liked that you had to force it to drop it's hit point in the right spot during one of it's attacks.

The most interesting boss is the one for the steam island stage. It's this weird thing that has light counter weights that you have to knock back at him as he floats on the top screen. What made it so interesting is trying to get the timing right where you could continually knock the weights back to do damage.

My wife nabbed Adventure for me today. The boat segments which I thought were going to be obnoxious are actually pretty fun at this point. The main annoyance I have with the game is the same annoyance I had with the first Rush, the mindless drivel that the characters spew out to each other. I'm thinking from now on, I'm gonna just skip the dialogue and go play.

The 2D sections are fantastic and a worthy to be held up with the first Rush as well as the Genesis predecessors.

I'll agree with this.

I finished all the Genesis games, and was looking forward to Sonic Rush after not really being terribly happy with recent Sonics. And then...I just couldn't get into Sonic Rush.

While I do like speeding along, I also like being careful and Sonic Rush doesn't reward that. It does reward doing things over a lot and memorizing the last time you screwed up and not doing that again. Couple that with having to pass two levels at a time, and I rapidly lost interest.

I'd play Sonic Rush, get irritated, and move on to NSMB or Princess Peach or something else. I still mean to get back to it, but perhaps my tastes have changed or my irritation factor is now lower than it once was.

I'll probably get this at some point. I really dug Rush...enough for me to finish it, sell it, and then re-buy it. I'm not too sure about the extra in between stuff though...like most I prefer the fast 2D stages. I might wait until this drops to $20.

I skipped every last bit of story in the first Sonic Rush. I still don't know what the hell is up with that female Cat & Eggman Nega. Frankly, I don't care. Great game, for sure, but horrible story is still horrible.

That's thing I hate most about the new Sonic's, the over-reliance on VO to tell the story. What partly made S3&K (and to a lesser extent, Sonic 1 & 2) so awesome was that it told an epic story without uttering one word of dialouge. Once Sonic & co first spoke, they immediantly lost all the cool factor they had.

I picked up SRA a couple days ago and have been meaning to give it ago, but stuff keeps getting in the way.

True things.

The entire Sonic series needs a damn revamp. OR pick up where S3K left off.

We really need OG Sonic pacing again. As much fun as it is to speed through levels that wasn't what Sonic was all about. There really was a lot of platforming and enemy bashing to be had that just felt faster than any other 2D platformer. You had to be good to blaze through a Sonic Genesis level.

i have enjoyed the new sonic rush. I think its better than the first one.I'm not sure if it's better or not. I do (surprisingly) like the ship traveling minigames, and the 2D action stages are tight. It's at least as good as the original Rush.

I just beat the main story this afternoon. As with any Sonic game, the normal "final" boss isn't ever the end. Have to do some emerald hunting now :)

I got all the chaos emeralds. How do I make the more Sol emerald missions appear?

I got all the chaos emeralds. How do I make the more Sol emerald missions appear? Some are boss repeats, talk to the purple guy with the sail boat. Some show up once you find the right hidden island. Likewise, talk the the purple guy.

EDIT: Just got the last of the emeralds and all the hidden islands. Time to finish this puppy off between classes tomorrow morning and head into Halo 3 in the afternoon :)
