Rumor came about from a french site, which is saying that Square will reveal Endless Crisis:FFVII for ps3 at TGS.

Yep. It's just milking the cash cow, nothing more. Trust me, S-E has great interest in Nintendo with their new found success and Square has personally wanted to get involved in the casual gamer/group gaming demographic for a long time. Remember Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube?

The PS3 does not have near the install base that MS or Nintendo do, nor does it have any games of "system seller" magnitude (though MGS 4 may help). If they can essentially re-release FFVII, that will definitely help sell systems, but it won't make Sony the "winner" of the next-gen wars.

you know that's a nice prediction you have there.. but why predict sometthing so far.. youre talking about a game that's just a rumor, no release date, no nothing. If this game comes out in late 2009, who knows how many PS3s will be available [in homes] then.. plus the PS3s that the game might sell, and that's assuming that its a blockbuster title.

I think he was implying, based on a really old internet rumor, that VII's ending was incomplete. Many people who believe this also insist that, in the fictional extended version of the game that Square didn't have time to finish, Aerith was meant to be revived.

Of course, none of this is true, but some people cling to it as if it were.

At the time, FFVII was a groundbreaking RPG in it's mass market appeal, cinematic quality, and graphics. Now, it's just another in a long string of beatings Square has been giving to it's most fan adored horse.

It's also coming out on a console that costs twice as much as the original system, and twice as much as it's competition. Quite an odd reversal, considering the original playstation cost almost half as much as it's main competition at launch, the Saturn.

NOTHING, but NOTHING will reverse PS3's position unless that price reaches a reasonable ~300 level. And that will not be happening in the next two years. Regardless of quality, people have a limit to what they will spend, and Sony served as the guinea pig for discovering that price this generation. Someone should have told them about the charred corpse of the 3D0 guinea pig.

Is the Wii really the PS3s competitor... because if this game was coming out on Wii then you really wouldn't have much of a game. We've all played the Wii version of this about 10 years ago on PS1. We don't need another one. Games sell systems, so if anything is going to reverse the PS3 position, or at least turn the tide, its going to be a game like this. No one wants to play a lame Wii half assed [excuse my french] "oh this is for the casual RPG gamer now" FFVII remake. That was one of the main joys of FFVII, because it was a game that really pushed the envelope for games during its time. A game like this [assuming that its the hotshit we're expecting it to be] is totally justifiable on PS3, at the 500/600 dollar level. By the time this game comes out.. which would probably be some time in 2009, the PS3 will be at a better price range, and they'll be a bigger user base; I forgot which sony rep said this.. but it makes sense.. you can't develop games based on the present market you have to develop games for how the market will be in the future. A HD FFVII remake is a lot more attractive than a wiggle waggle RPG fest FFVII.

Well they choose PS1 because, primarily they liked the storage space of the CD, and at the same time, they didn't have a good relationship with Nintendo. FFVII sold about 9.8 millon[on ps1] at the time of FFVII release, there weren't 9.8 million PS1s.. FFVII helped the PS1 get to where it is. I understand your point, [even without doing your minigame] and as I mentioned before, you don't develop games for the present market, you plan and develop for tomorrows market.

that 9.8 million is worldwide sales for FFVII... that was from wikipedia. Not an indication that it had an attach ration of anywhere near 100 percent.

Thomas's devotion to Sony makes me ill. Why do you guys feel like you've got to prove something to everyone? Just enjoy your damn machine and get on with it. As for developing for tomorrow's market, that's exactly what Sony IS NOT doing. They are developing for the "bigger, faster, prettier" crowd, while Nintendo has shown that they were more forward looking in their move towards the non-gamer. The one who really saw the future shows in the sales.

The PS3 will continue to chug along as it always has being the high end, high price system, but it will not be the market leader this gen. That ship has sailed, and an entire year of monthly 3rd place sales ensures a 3rd place generation. But that's cool. Gamecube stayed in 3rd and I enjoyed that system's games more than any other. It'll be okay. Games will still come out for the PS3, and it'll do just fine.

Final Fantasy 7 is my favorite Final Fantasy by far, but I really hope they don't remake it. People need to move on.

Do you think games like Chrono Trigger, Einhander or Brave Fencer Musashi would have been made had Square constantly recycled old Final Fantasy games like they do now?

Yeah, as much as I love Final Fantasy 7, after FFX's improvements on the battle style, I'm sure FF7's battle system would feel a bit simple and slow. FFX managed to inject just a slight bit of strategy into every single battle. By about the halfway point of FF7, there's zero reason to do anything but mash the X button in random battles, because it works just as well as anything else, without using MP. The problem though, is if you change things, people will bitch and moan even more because it's different.

It also seems fairly stupid to remake a game for a platform that can still play the original version of the game.. And it's only 10 years old.

Well FFVII anything is good for any system. crisis core, does 470k in the first week, then 100k psp(s) sold in that same week. When you have a game that can push units and hardware like that, then that means its time to start developing that game.

Is the Wii really the PS3s competitor... because if this game was coming out on Wii then you really wouldn't have much of a game. We've all played the Wii version of this about 10 years ago on PS1. We don't need another one. Games sell systems, so if anything is going to reverse the PS3 position, or at least turn the tide, its going to be a game like this. No one wants to play a lame Wii half assed [excuse my french] "oh this is for the casual RPG gamer now" FFVII remake. That was one of the main joys of FFVII, because it was a game that really pushed the envelope for games during its time. A game like this [assuming that its the hotshit we're expecting it to be] is totally justifiable on PS3, at the 500/600 dollar level. By the time this game comes out.. which would probably be some time in 2009, the PS3 will be at a better price range, and they'll be a bigger user base; I forgot which sony rep said this.. but it makes sense.. you can't develop games based on the present market you have to develop games for how the market will be in the future. A HD FFVII remake is a lot more attractive than a wiggle waggle RPG fest FFVII.

I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan and I loved FFVII, but I'm not shelling out that kind of cash to play a game that's already been made, and ultimately won't be all that different. Note that I piss away money like it'll give me cancer.

S-E should be (and hopefully is) focusing more on developing new properties, and a helluva lot less on all these Final Fantasy re-hashes/spinoffs/energy drink potions. And you all should be encouraging that, rather than claiming that Final Fantasy VII HD could somehow be Sony's white knight in the console wars.

Nintendo doesn't need to be at TGS... and either they dont' have anything [new] to show, or their so arrogant, that they know they don't need to be there, and don't want to bother wasting money to set up for the show.
Historically, they have almost never gone to TGS.

Final Fantasy is one of the top selling franchises of all time.
Just like Nintendo renews their greatest, I don't see a problem with S-E doing it as well. I don't think it should be a straight rehash, [i.e. New Super Mario brothers] I am hoping for something with the original FFVII with a spin off, like another chapter in the advent children story would be nice; but a remake isn't all bad though, and depending on how much work they put into it, it might be good. I agree with you 100 percent, that S-E needs some new stuff, I agree that sony needs new IPs - I'm pulling for White Knight too. But when you know you got a hit you got to flaunt it; LOL.. its like a woman with a nice body, she knows she's got the goods, and she's willing to flaunt it; so don't just flaunt it one time, flaunt all day everyday. Sony is like any man.. "hey girl come flaunt your Final Fantasy at my place.. PS3. Give the game a shot.. you already saying you're "not shelling out that kind of cash to play a game that's already been made, an ultimately won't be all that different" yet you don't know anything about the game, what does, or does not make it worth 60 dollars. Midgar is easily one of my favorite RPG settings of all time. Sure, you're only there for the first 5 or so hours, but it's pretty much perfect while you are there.

I love the game overall though, despite the hate it seems to get from everyone now.

funny you mention that-- ever since my first play through when the game first came out, I've picked it up a few times, only to get bored and quit right after Midgar.

I rotated the camera on the psp and now the camera view is kinda low down so i can't really find my bearings right now lol. To switch the view back is L2 button but...well there is no L2 on the psp lol

I could see them going for something more involving, like a Kingdom Hearts type of system, to make sure the appeal is huge. Maybe something in between FFXII (pseudo real time) and KH (mindless mash fest)
