View Full Version : Premium with HDMI? Don't buy the adapter yet! I have a fix for audio out

I came across a post on Gamefaqs where the following was proclaimed:
I just bought the Halo console yesterday. I hooked up the HDMI, but later found out I needed that audio adaptor that comes with the Elite to have it hooked up to my surround sound. The reason is because the av cable that comes with the console is too wide to have it hooked up side by side with the HDMI cord. I had bought the Psyclone "HD only" component cables awhile back so I pulled them out and the plug in part is very thin, a lot thinner than the stock av cable plug. I was able to use the Psyclone for my surround sound and HDMI for my video and saved myself 49.99. Anyone else who may be in this situation I would get a set of those Psyclones off ebay for 10 bucks like I did.

This is the cable he's referring to:

The propietary AV plug on this wire is thin enough that you can still access the HDMI port and have this plugged in.

If you don't mind using non first party products, pick this up and try it out.

I haven't tried it because my 360 is a regular premium. No HDMI, nor is it needed as I have a Daewoo DVD player for up convert and my TV isn't 1080p.

I think Gamestop carries this cable in-store, new and used, from what I've heard other CAGs mention.

yes if you find it used in store @ gamestop, it'll be the same $10 they charge for any used 360 a/v cable.

This needs to be added to the 360 general info sticky.

Don't most HDTV's with HDMI have optical outs on them to pass the audio signal through .
Mine does .

Mine does .

Mine has also digital audio out; however, the damn thing will only pass audio from the internal tuner (either ATSC or QAM)!!!

Yes, but most don't pass 5.1.

I know my television doesn't.

If I buy this, I'll only be using it for audio, so does anyone have a link or something about the audio quality of this cable? And perhaps a confirmation that it fits?

So the reason you can't use a standard 360 component or composite cable for audio is just because it's too big? That's a really stupid design.

I personally own the Psyclone VGA cables for the 360 and they're fantastic. Haven't had a problem with them. I can confirm that the propietary cable plug in is thin on the side it plugs into the 360.

I think the stupid design was Microsoft putting the HDMI port right above the Propietary AV port.

Yup, the component cables won't plug into the 360 when you have an HDMI cable connected as well.
