I've had my PS3 since... July I think and since then I can recall a whopping 1 update to the US PSOne list which was, of course, Castlevania. Anyhow, feel free to rant about the wasted potential of the US PSN Store. Hopefully I can get the poll to work.

Yeah, Sony really dropped the ball on this one. The Japan store has great support, but we get nothing.

I was about to say that maybe Sony is trying to limit the store to only the highest quality games.

Then I remembered what games are on PSN. 2Xtreme, and crap like that.

Later rather then sooner.

Castlevania Chronicles and Wipeout XL have been rated.

Why haven't we gotten more PS1 games? From what I gather at the blog, people were crying for demos 20X more than PS1 games, for store updates. For PS1 games, it was a 50/50 split for those who wanted them (some wanted them, others didn't want them because they said they paid $500-$600 for their PS3 to play PS3 games, not old looking PS1 games).

there's no excuse for not having more up there, despite what message board posters say they want.

I'm all for using my PS3 to play PS3 games but I'm also all for paying 6 bucks for Suikoden II rather than 150.

Off the top of my head, single (I think) disc games I'd buy off the US PSN store... (at 6 bucks each)

Ogre Battle
Tactics Ogre
Einhander
Raiden Project
King of Fighters '95
Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha
Rhapsody
Valkyrie Profile
Ridge Racer Revolution
Ehrgeiz
Persona

...and that's coming from someone who still has around 160 PSOne games. The list would explode if they could run multidisc games (dunno if they can or can't but I haven't seen any yet.) Think about how many people would download FF7 and/or FFT! It's a freakin' goldmine and Sony's just sitting there offering up demos that came out 3 weeks ago (or more) on Xbox Live.

Granted, there are licensing issues for some games but just based on the stuff we've seen so far between the US and Japanese stores, SNK would be behind it. Konami is willing to put things up. Namco has put up Tekken 2, what about 3? Atlus has put up Guilty Gear and the R-Type games in the JP store.

Anyhow, rant over. I'll have to stick to getting my fix from the Japanese and Hong Kong stores. Here's hoping I didn't agree to anything crazy in those license agreements I couldn't read. I can see it now, one day I go to my car and some Japanese guys are loading it into a truck with a letter from Sony and my fake information on it.

not to promote piracy, but I'd rather play my PS1 games on ePSXe with filtering and all that.

Buying a non-Mac computer would cost me more than buying a bunch of six dollar PSOne games. And yes, I just checked, there's no ePSXe for Mac

i would really like to see the first marvel vs. capcom with online support on there. Sony really is missing out, much money could be mad by puting these types of games online with online support.

most likely never... ;)

I just think sony needs to promote this aspect of the store to publishers more. just have some serious talks with square and a few other big PS1 hayday companies and we'd be good. I'd definitely rebuy vagrant story in a heartbeat.

Weren't they also supposed to let the PSP download PSX games without the rather expensive router that is the PS3?

Isn't it pretty much a given that Square-Enix is not going to get into downloadable titles in a big way? Yes, there should be more PS1 games on there, but really, how many of those (again, excluding S-E) would you really want to play? Early 3D just does not hold up well over time like 2D which is why I don't think PS1 games will ever amount to much on the PSN.

I would welcome a steady release of HD remakes, however.

The chances of seeing Atlus put games up on USA PSN is next to zero.
there's no excuse for not having more up there, despite what message board posters say they want. The ones up have performed very badly. When you have games that sold millions of copies perform terribly, you'll usually assume no one will buy future ones.

I mentioned the demos because that's what people were crying for the most, and that's why SCEA put more up (by talking to publishers over it).

As for why Japan has the PS1 games, SCEI != SCEA != SCEE. They all operate completely separate from one another. Although Japan may have several PS1 games, they also have the fewest PSN games and have next to NO demos. It's not like the stuff on Japan PSN can be translated, because for most older downloads, games are emulated in their respective countries again (like someone would have to emulate Guilty Gear 1 in the U.S.).

As much as I love many PS1 games, I won't deny that over 80% of them don't hold up too well now. PS2 games on the other hand hold up really good. It's kind of the same as many NES games don't hold up, but SNES games do.

I'm all for using my PS3 to play PS3 games but I'm also all for paying 6 bucks for Suikoden II rather than 150.

More importantly, we need to convince Konami that they would actually earn $10 from Suikoden II (let's get real, if SOTN was $10 Suikoden ain't gonna be $6), whereas they don't get anything from that $150 eBay transaction.

Mana Knight, what part of "there's no excuse" don't you get? Making valid points is fine and dandy, but there is NO denying Sony dropped the ball fuckin' *fabulously* with PSX titles. Your excuses are just another example of why everyone here hates you: your knee-jerk reactions start with the conclusion "Sony does everything good," and you tend to rearrange the "evidence" (typically you bringing out evidence you can not verify the truth of, such as dealing with the assumption that the folks who approve and test demos are the same folks who are working on porting PSX titles, thus constraining resources; or, as in the post above, pointing out, without any evidence whatsoever, that PSX titles have sold poorly).

Look at the point being made and think about it. Sony will not crumble and die if you admit that they're not doing something right. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to be that people will soften up on their attitude towards the PS3 if you stop approaching it like a flawless console handed down by God himself on a blanket of angel feathers and hookers.

You should just move away from CAG and go to the Playstation forums, where that sort of hyper-moronic excusing away of Sony's dumbass moves and feigned outrage if a complaint is levied against Sony (or, the worst of all sins, saying something nice about 360/Wii) is welcomed. Christ almighty, you'd fit in well there.

Sony's PSX support is pathetic, and would go a long way in weakening people's "PS3 has no games" argument, much like the VC has bolstered the Wii. There's no two fuckin' ways about it.

Was 2extreme supposed to be a smash hit all over again? What about cool boarders and an outdated version of hot shots golf? lets not forget Castlevania, whose only added feature was to charge an extra $5 more than the other games.

SONY IS FUCKING IT UP. CHEERS.
