Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150584) disappeared from the headlines after Nintendo's original E3 announcement, only reappearing when people questioned whether the game even existed anymore. The idea of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.'s cancellation has come up several times; most recently surfacing last week, according to an alleged listing in Japanese publication Famitsu Weekly (via GameFront.de (http://gamefront.de/)) that said Project H.A.M.M.E.R. was dead.
Is it? Nintendo of America won't outright say it, but based on what a company spokesperson told us, we shouldn't hold our breath for an appearance anytime soon. "We've shifted development resources from Project HAMMER. You may hear about it in the future, but it's off the schedule for now," said Nintendo to 1UP.
As we said, though, this isn't the first time Nintendo has dodged coming clean on the NST-developed title. In an E3 interview with Advanced Media Network (http://wii.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=10424), Nintendo of America Senior Director of PR Beth Llewellyn did her fair share of question dodging: AMN: So is Project H.A.M.M.E.R. canceled?
Llewellyn: Development resources have been shifted for the time being, but it may come back. But right now, it's not a focus of ours.
AMN: So it's not currently in development? Is it on pause? Llewellyn: Uh... probably... yeah. Again, we shifted our focus. Some games have shifted development resources.
Simply put, sounds like NST is off Project H.A.M.M.E.R., but if they find a way to make the concept work, it could come back. Just don't count on it.
