They were too busy scouring for a remake of FFVII. ;)
Good news for those who like it, but I'd rather see Sony's first party resources used for God of War/Shadow of the Colossus games (y'know, the franchises that sell) for the PS3.

I really, really enjoyed MotorStorm, so this is good news to me. This is more a business announcement, and picking up such a studio is a good move from Sony.

You want these guys, who haven't worked on anything but racing games, to make God of War 3? Let them do what they're good at doing and leave the franchises you mentioned to the guys that are good at it.

As long as they address the criticisms of the original (loading, more modes, more tracks), Motorstorm 2 will be kickass. It was just a few bits of polish that kept it from being a triple AAA game as the gameplay itself is pretty much spot on.
I eagerly anticipate part 2.

As long as they address the criticisms of the original (loading, more modes, more tracks), Motorstorm 2 will be kickass.I have faith it will. I remember the first ATV Offroad Fury and many other Sony racers, the first one wasn't exactly the best, but later installments were so much better.
With the WRC series, Evolution improved quite a bit through the years (first WRC was just good, while the 2nd was so much better), so I expect the same.

First, I think the addition of rumble will make a huge difference in the enjoyment of this game. Second, Evolution has done all of the really hard work so it seems like all they need to do for the sequel is focus on more tracks, additional modes, and optimizing the loading times. Online will be available out of the box, and more PS3 owners likely have voice chat with the release of Warhawk. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Motorstorm is a classic.. they took real video of the grand canyon and rendered it in real time. For part two they just need to add two player splitscreen. But for part two I expect, to be able to share replays, user created content for cars. ability to use your own custom soundtrack.

Hopefully the racing's a bit more varied. The hectic nature of the free-for-all's are great, but it got dull quick. At least it'll have rumble, which the original lacked (and yes, TMK, I know MotorStorm will have rumble when DS3 comes out). It'd be so much better, though, with better triggers. Oh, and fix the fucking loading times. Changing car classes and liveries should not take a minute.
I want a WRC game.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/bbc-motorstorm-2-goes-island-coming-this-holiday/
We've officially known (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/sony-buys-motorstorm-developer-sequel-coming/) a sequel to Motorstorm was in the works since last September (and logically known it for much longer) but we've been short on details. That changed today when the BBC reported that Motorstorm 2 would be released in time for Christmas and would feature four-player split-screen (huzzah!).
The piece also revealed that players would "race around a lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation." You say "interactive vegetation," we say "hottest new buzzword of 2008 con-firmed."
Updated the OP with this bit of news on where the game may be heading.

I'm glad to hear about splitscreen and the new locale, but it'll take a lot more than that to get me interested in another Motorstorm game. I owned the first for about a week before selling it off again. Sure, it looked unbelievably good, but if you're going to make a game where every race is just a straight-up run around a loop two or three times, the actual racing better be pretty compelling. Instead all the vehicles felt like bricks, in terms of both handling and speed.
I'd really like something that could be Excite Truck 2, with a real sense of speed, a wide variety of courses, and some decent motion control. Custom soundtracks wouldn't hurt, either, especially after Motorstorm's soundtrack.

02-25-2008, 02:40 PM
Man, I loved Motorstorm, it was just too much of the same thing.
That's what 2 needs to fix. More variety.
I'll disagree greatly though that the racing was boring. I felt it was extremely viseral, and the sense of speed is there with the smaller vehicles. The big rigs are a whole other beast.
Vanigan
02-25-2008, 02:44 PM
Split screen just made this a day 1 purchase for me.
Actually, I thought all the vehicles handled well, and varied depending on the vehicle itself. The physics were arcadey, but still had some grounding.
Meanwhile, Excite truck had really poor physics.
I definitely agree with the need for there to be a bit more with the races.

I'm really excited. I really liked the first MotorStorm, but felt it had some issues. If the developers can make the A.I. more reasonable, along with adding some other options (like Time Attack from the get go, Quick Race, etc.), this should be an awesome racer and satisfy me much better in the end. :D

Actually, I'd care. I can't count how many times I've had friends over, and not finding a good multi-player game to play local with. They are't much into games, but these are the same guys I used to play Starfox, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Brothers on the N64 back in the day.

you're used to playing online, but there's still a lot of people that want to play locally split screen. When you have friends come over. At home multiplayer games are whats hot - Buzz, Gears, Halo 3, Haze, Warhawk, etc. I know its oldschool, but there's nothing wrong with having the option for Splitscreen Multiplayer.

Yep, plenty of people, like my myself, prefer to have friends over in the same room. We can talk, play games, have fun, etc...
Despite not being racing game players, all my friends and I really took a liking to Motorstorm for its arcade racer feel. There's been many an occasion where we want to play against each other while we're all hanging out, but since there's no split screen play we couldn't.

It was definitely an odd omission for 1 to have no splitscreen. I agree that split could be annoying back in the day. But now with widescreen hdtv's and vertical 2 way split, it is great.

Good, finished? Now stop your scowling – yes, it's a CGI target render. Let's not forget though, after the spluttering internet screams following the notoriously not-in-game E3 2005 MotorStorm trailer, Evolution came commendably close to realizing its ambition with the final code. What can be ascertained so far then is that MotorStorm 2 will be a lot less brown than its predecessor, sprawling across a verdant tropical Pacific island setting far removed from the dusty bowl of Monument Valley. Alongside thick foliage, Sony promises a huge variety in environmental hazards, citing mountainous peaks, flowing rivers, volcanic clouds, lava and - of course - mud. In fact, the game will feature 16 multi-route tracks in total.

Official PR:
MotorStorm™ returns this autumn on PLAYSTATION®3: Prepare for the next instalment of the world’s most brutal off-road racing festival
o A brand new location: experience the grandeur, diversity and unpredictability of a remote Pacific island
o 16 new diverse multi-route tracks hosting MotorStorm’s unique mixture of vehicles
o The aggressive monster truck now joins your garage
o Split-Screen Multiplayer racing – compete with up to four buddies on the same screen
It’s the best selling PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) title to date and now, it’s time to take to the starting grid again as the MotorStorm™ festival heads to the tropics.
The first MotorStorm wowed critics and gamers alike with its heady formula of brutal, unpredictable off-road racing, festival vibes and stunning Monument Valley desert scenery. This new outing takes you to a solitary tropical paradise in the Pacific Ocean, ready for a whole new take on no-holds-barred racing action through thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes.
Not just pretty backdrops to the action, these environments take centre stage in challenging players with everything in Mother Nature’s arsenal. Thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools all test the drivers to their limits and beyond.
Using the power of PLAYSTATION®Network, 16 players can race head-to-head online and, for the first time in the series, racers can hit the gas in four-player split-screen mode.
All of the vehicle classes from the first MotorStorm are here again: ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs – as well as the newly arrived monster trucks that climb, sprint and roll over any other vehicle in their way.
Delivered to you on Blu-ray Disc, expect a rich festival of off road racing, along with a host of game modes and rewards. It’s brutal, dangerous, relentless, and unpredictable and more than a game - MotorStorm is way of life so stay tuned, the festival is back this autumn and promises to be larger than ever before.

Keep in mind, that island, as the trailer was flying in, had a large swath of brown desert terrain on it. It's no stretch to think that there will be more varied terrain this time around.
NTolerance, I want the same thing, but in all honesty I know how difficult game development is. Motorstorm was a first generation PS3 made as best they could with a bad SDK and a console architecture that was basically unknown. It's likely that the way they programmed motorstorm 1 it simply didn't make good enough use out of the cell architecture to put in split screen (which can often double, or triple the amount of processing power needed).
But, I still agree, Motorstorm 1, and the PS3 lineup in general has lacked, and is still lacking, good local multiplayer games you could play with friends in the same room. This harkens back to Phil Harrison's comments about Sony Japan execs not thinking much of this mindset.

Here's some new info:
There's a bigger, badder and more badass sequel coming out this year. You guessed it: MotorStorm Pacific Rift. There's more to be excited about in the sequel other than interactive vegetation. If you didn't hear, Pacific Rift is going to have twice the tracks of the original, and four-player split-screen racing (something sorely missing from the original).
Pacific Rift is also going to add a number of commonly requested features, such as a Photo Mode, which allows you to take screenshots from within the game to store and share on your PS3. There's also Custom Soundtracks, which allows you to play music from your hard drive, so you can finally drive around thrashing to Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne (if you so choose).
Sixteen tracks. Twenty player online multiplayer. Custom soundtracks. Photo mode. Monster trucks. It really looks like Pacific Rift is really going above and beyond the original's offerings. Video, after the cut.

What's the game about? MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is the sequel to Sony's multi-million selling 2007 off-road racer, MotorStorm. Far removed from the muddy, dusty desert settings that defined the original, Pacific Rift's 16 tracks (double that of the original) take place on an isolated island in the Pacific Ocean. Much-demanded four-player local split-screen action is included in the follow-up, with the online mayhem bumped up to 16 players this time around.
What's new for E3? This is our first hands-on with the game, which (according to an on-screen indicator) is 70% done and in beta. We had a chance to take the new monster trucks for a stroll around Cascade Falls, a jungle track with branching paths, a large pool of water, and some luscious foliage. In addition to that single-player jaunt, we were able to play a two-player split-screen battle in RainGod Spire, a track apparently inspired by the RainGod Mesa course from the original game.
What's our take? It's tough not to look at MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and think that the two main inspirations are the original game (obviously) and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The track's massive jungle settings appear to be ripped right out of Naughty Dog's PS3 shooter, which isn't a bad thing -- there's certainly a more lived-in and authentic feel to these courses, even if the visuals still need a few more coats of polish to match up to the near-photo-realism of Pacific Rift's predecessor. From what we played, the courses are much more structurally impressive, with winding paths all over the place (even more than the original), massive jumps (including one that resulted in some five seconds of air), and several opportunities for devastating collisions.
Most of the complaints about the first game revolved around the lack of content and specific features, so it's little surprise that the actual racing seems carried over without much variation. All seven vehicle types from MotorStorm return, including bikes, rally cars, and big rigs, with the monster truck marking the lone addition to the fray. Every vehicle type has its own distinct advantages and drawbacks, and the monster trucks are no different -- sure, you'll be able to knock around motorcyclists and ATV riders with ease, but a slower pace and difficulty alongside deep pools of water give you some variables to consider when picking a ride.
Really, that seems to be the long and short of it -- MotorStorm: Pacific Rift takes the familiar, loose off-road racing to a new setting and piles on the content, creating an experience that will undoubtedly appeal to fans of the original -- though it remains to be seen if there's enough variance to draw in those that didn't dig the first game.
I really want this game now. I liked the first, but felt it needed more. This fixes many problems.

Motorstorm is the best off road racing game I've played since OffRoad Racing for the NES. The gameplay and graphics were great, it just needed more. Spit screen, more tracks, etc. If its possible I'd love to able to play some of the old tracks in the new game, and it'd be even better if the DLC for Motorstorm could carry over to M2.

The new video on PSN looks great!
Only bad is some of the up close car textures don't look so hot.
Enviroments, and sense of speed look fantastic though.
That water! The greens and color!

It's still early though. It was only 30% done at the Judges day a few weeks ago, so like Resistance, I imagine that they've been building the core of the game first and adding in the flashy stuff up to the release.

PS Blog update:
Hi Everyone! I’m happy to announce the official release date for MotorStorm Pacific Rift is October 28th, 2008.
MotorStorm Pacific Rift cover art
This time around, the MotorStorm races will take place on a tropical island set amongst the lush jungle, emerald lagoons and towering peaks in the Pacific Ocean. Why is this important? The original MotorStorm introduced us to some fantastic racing through the desert landscape of Monument Valley. Although we delivered some wild tracks and terrain, the desert is the desert. With the topical island setting, players will be able to experience a much broader range of environments and terrain.
As you already know, there are 8 vehicle classes to choose from, including the Monster Truck! For the first time, you and your friends will be able to race head-to-head in the new 4 player split-screen mode for some major racing mayhem. The 16 diverse multi-route tracks (double the amount from the first MotorStorm) feature real-time terrain deformation that ensures no two laps are the same. Did I mention Trophy support is included?
Head on over to GameStop and pre-order your copy today to receive the retailer-exclusive demo for MotorStorm Pacific Rift. Race against the computer or grab a buddy for some split-screen heart-pounding action on one of the exciting “Air” Tracks. More pre-order programs will be announced in the coming weeks.

That makes it a tight few weeks for Sony with SOCOM on October 14, LittleBigPlanet on October 21, MotorStorm on October 28, and Resistance 2 on November 4.They are also releasing SingStar Volume 2 in that time frame and have two other games coming out before those games (NBA 09 and Buzz). It will be a crazy time for SCEA.
Anyway, played the demo and it's pretty cool. Definitely hard.

Are they going to fix the load times? I remember the 1st game having really bad load times. It took forever for the car to load when picking one. That was always such a huge turn off.

There are also many great Xbox 360 games coming out - I will only be buying the best of the best - and limiting the demo to Qore subscribers is not helping MotorStorm 2's case. What a dumb move - a demo helps sell games, so of course you want to limit the number of people who have access to it. :wall: Luckily Wipeout should be out shortly - and I will have my fill of racing games for a while.

What a dumb move - a demo helps sell games, so of course you want to limit the number of people who have access to it. :wall: Luckily Wipeout should be out shortly - and I will have my fill of racing games for a while.Actually, let me try to explain this to you. Most ALL SCEA demos do NOT come to the PS Store until 2-3 weeks before release (that's the standard practice SCEA does. MS does the same too many times). MotorStorm 2 doesn't come out until 10/28. Ratchet & Clank: Future and Uncharted for an example, did come to the PS Store until just before release (despite there being either a GameStop demo floating around or at various events). Just the difference with Qore is occassionally, they might get an earlier released version of a demo (like GameStop) where the PS Store version will be touched up more (that happened with R&C Future, where the GameStop demo had tons of screen tearing, and the PS Store demo eliminated it). Even if there was no Qore, we'd still get the PS Store demo on October 9th or something. From what I've noticed, GameStop, demos at PS Experience, etc. are older builds and they tend to wait near release to get one that represents the final product much better (The Uncharted demo which ended up on the PS Store, was much better than the E3 demo last year I heard, and it was finished since late August).
Also, Qore isn't the only way people can get MotorStorm 2 demo. Someone can get it via preorder right now too (an actual disc version).

my want list for ps3 is huge compared to x360. A matter of fact there are like 2 games coming up for the x that I'm interested in. gears2 and left for dead. I have the first gears but don't play it. The only game i play right now on the x is cod4 so gears 2 will be a game time decision.

Already I have started off this demo with a good start; Ministry is featured on the soundtrack.
As for the game itself, it is better visually, at least speaking from my composite tv perspective. As far as I know, you can't do any tricks, which is where PURE takes the lead.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/29/motorstorm-monday-crashing-in-pacific-rift/
Seems that Evolution will be putting up new blog posts every monday about some aspect of their new game until its release. This week's post is about crashing and the penalties involved, which was something Shane was upset about on 1up Yours, I think.
Today the staff at Evo (http://www.evos.net/home.aspx) are doing a little dance and breathing a huge sigh of relief. For today is the day of our fist gold master candidate, which as I write this is winging its way to assorted testers around the world ready for them to give MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/MotorStorm_Pacific_Rift) one last hammering. This isn’t the end, chances are there still a few bugs to be fixed, but we’ve finished dessert, and are now just waiting for coffee and the bill. Phew.
But rather than browsing through vacation brochures, I thought this impasse would be best spent writing a few blog posts which answer some of the questions that have been floating around the internet about Pacific Rift. The first one of which I noticed is how many people I’ve seen decrying the fact the lovely little pause camera from the first game isn’t present in the recent demo.
Well guess what? We’ve taken it out because we’ve introduced a photo mode to the main game, essentially the old pause camera on steroids. Hopefully it will be a good substitute and give your greasy little paws something to do while the game is paused, other than just going to the khazi. No doubt some of you will probably use it for rubbing our noses into any graphical glitches you may find, or taking comedy pictures of dismounted drivers looking like they’re humping trees, but hopefully more of you will use it for grabbing some ace action pictures of the carnage and destruction we’ve worked so hard to give you in the game. You see we like the carnage in MotorStorm.
Years of doing more sanitized racing games, coupled with an unhealthy obsession with breaking stuff really made us try and push the boat out with the amount of things that falls apart in the game.
This desire for destruction gave us a few headaches when designing the game. The problem with racing games (and Motorsports in general) is that crashing is probably the most spectacular and exiting part of the whole affair. Unfortunately, crashing is also mutually exclusive to winning.
After much deliberation we were left with two solutions to the problem -
Option 1 - Every time you crash in MotorStorm one of our army of in-house vivisectionists ritually sacrifices a cute kitten to punish MotorStorm players and make sure they learn that crashing will only lead to kitty Armageddon.
Option 2 – Make crashes look awesome, dismember the vehicles, spew bits across the track, crumple them, crush them and toss the drivers into the path of other vehicles causing bigger and more spectacular crashes. Most importantly allow players involved in the crash to savor the carnage and then get back into the racing with as little time lost as possible. Guess which one we picked?
The levels of destruction in the first MotorStorm were pretty good, but this time around we really wanted to go to town. First off we developed a completely new vehicle deformation system that realistically crumples mashed vehicles into twisted wrecks, as well as throw components across the track. The end results are, in our honest opinion, smashing (excuse the anglo-centric pun). Secondly we took a real close look at the way we throw ragdoll drivers around, because breaking cars is amusing, but seeing your driver fly through the air to land in a crumpled heap only to be run over by a monster truck, tossed around and end up as a hood ornament on a big rig is the pinnacle of the whole MotorStorm experience. Don’t worry though, it’s more ‘Tom and Jerry (http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Tom+and+Jerry&x=0&y=0)’ than ‘Faces of Death (http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Faces+of+Death&x=0&y=0)’. Good clean wholesome fun.
So, crash a lot, enjoy it, and send us your photo mode screenshots of all that lovely carnage. And if you’ve used photo mode to take pictures of things you think we got wrong, please address them to -
Uzbekistan Automobile and River Transport Agency,
3 Usman Yusupov Street

Till next time.I completely forgot that there would be a photo mode, which is one of the best parts of Wipeout HD, so I hope it's similar to that.

Some descriptions of the 16 tracks in Pacific Rift:
Sony has revealed the full track list for MotorStorm Pacific Rift. The 16 levels are split between four zones, each based on an element. In the Air Zone you'll find lots of jumps, cliffs and downhill sections while the Earth Zone is a little more down to earth (get it?), with plenty of plants and undergrowth which can get in your way, hide obstacles and, apparently, fight back. In the Fire Zone you'll be faced with lava pits, volcanoes and rocky wastelands and, finally, in the Water Zone you'll find the island's coast, huge waterfalls and rivers. For a description of each of the 16 tracks, check after the break for the press release excerpt.
This should please those who found the dusty desert setting of the original MotorStorm a bit dull after a while. Pacific Rift promises to be incredibly varied, especially when you check out the tracks themselves. We've been given a huge number of screenshots to get up, including maps of most of the tracks, so check them out in the gallery below. It's definitely worth a look.
Here's the full list of 16 tracks featured in MotorStorm Pacific Rift:
Kanaloa Bay: "Sun-kissed, secluded, sandy, and slightly more treacherous than its good looks first suggest, Kanaloa Bay is a great track to be a spectator at. It's an awesome beach party with a welcome smattering of vehicular carnage running through it. But beware the dark territory beyond the lagoon – space gets real tight, real quick in that steamy jungle stretch."
Sugar Rush: "Only MotorStormers would think to stage a race in and around an old sugar plantation. The sharp machinery and rusty metal, those rust-weakened floors and rotten walls, and the zero-visibility of the cane fields all combine to make this track a sickly-sweet rush that's going to ruin more than just your teeth."
Mudslide: "The clue's largely in the title: Mudslide is like one of those crazy rides you get at water parks, except with mud instead of water. Still, there's plenty of slip-slidey action to engage in, with high routes available for those of you without the tires to tackle the mud."
Cascade Falls: "Dense jungle, thick with haze, gives way to wide-open plateaus and rickety scaffold. The tropical setting makes for a fascinating blend of beauty and danger – much like my ex-wife. The key to success is to keep it honest – don't take any unnecessary risks, and don't get caught making out behind the start gantry."
Beachcomber: "The black sand is evidence of the awesome power of nature, created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it is supercooled by the water. The WWII airbase and the unexploded bombs are evidence of the awesome destructive power of man. The sheer carnage created when these are combined is evidence of the awesome power of the MotorStorm. Let battle commence!"
Colossus Canyon: "This track has it all – beautiful forest, vibrant fauna, and a picturesque mountain stream that courses through a narrow gorge, over brook and water-meadow, and plummets over an enormous waterfall. Let's face it; if you're only going to accidentally plummet over one giant precipice in your MotorStorm career, this is the one to do it on. Today is a good day to fly."
Caldera Ridge: "The race organizers looked long and hard to find some driveable routes here, but in the end decided it'd be more fun driving vehicles over the edge of an enormous crater and barrelling out-of-control down a near-vertical slope. And that's exactly why the race organizers don't get invited to make race tracks for anyone else. Ever."
Badlands: "A giant track, racing at the feet of a giant cinder cone, Badlands has a name that's perfectly descriptive. Wait until you see the enormous active crater you need to jump over, or the blind, sheer precipices you need to tear round at high speed if you're to have any chance of winning. And let's not get into the collapsed tunnels and the huge canyon jump that crosses the track 75 feet in the air. These are MotorStorm lands. These are Badlands."
The Edge: "There's at least half a track here that isn't ridiculously dangerous. The other half is on a camber so extreme that descriptions like 'gnarly', 'radical' and 'utterly ridiculous' don't begin to convey it. This is all about keeping traction, and keeping nerve. Seasoned MotorStormers are already declaring 'Don't lose your bottle on the Edge – because if you do it'll probably fall and kill someone half a mile below you". Wise words indeed."
Paradise Beach: "Paradise Beach was perfect. Clear skies, gentle surf, warm water. It was a small town, and the living was good. Was, that is, until 30 years ago when the fire-God Pele cruised into town in his fiery hotrod of molten death, and literally tore up the strip. Now all that remains is dust and bones. Welcome to Paradise."
The Rift: "The Rift: a mile-long tear in the world that is said to be the serpentine trail to the dark underworld of the God Milu. Formed from multiple interlinking lava tubes created over millennia, the Rift is a tight, claustrophobic journey through the jaws of the underworld, where death awaits the wearied traveler at every turn."
Scorched: "Fire, steam, lava, craters – Scorched is about as far away from the golden beaches and cool blue ocean as possible. The heat and dust make a real mess of your engine, and the lava will make a real mess of you. Once you're out of the barren lands, you may think you've escaped unharmed, but the thick forested area on the back section of the track throws up plenty of its own unique hazards."
Razorback: "The Daddy. Mud, dirt, flora, caves, rock, water. Deadly drop-offs, dangerous jumps, spectacular falls and fast-flowing rivers. This is the big one – the whole MotorStorm ethos showcased in a single, epic track. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, your time to shine is now."
Rain God Spires: "A humid, slippery, unfeasibly dangerous track set at the summit of a towering cathedral amongst heavy, pendulous tropical clouds. With immense slick precipices over immense drop-offs, Rain God brings hell to the Heavens and provides one of the Festival's most dangerous and deadly roller-coaster rides."
Wildfire: "Trapped in no-man's land between a deadly lava deluge and an unforgiving ocean, Wildfire is the rock between two hard places - a very temporary island-hopping race over the elemental battlefield where fire and water collide. Smoke and steam conspire to reduce race visibility to a minimum while the route screams along perilous cliff-edges and leaps across rifts and chasms."
Riptide: "The crowd-pleaser down on the beach, Riptide is the unholy offspring of MotoX and MotorStorm. From MotoX it has inherited ramps, big jumps, whoops, rollers, tight banked turns and technical hairpins, and from MotorStorm its blue eyes, cute little button nose and sandy complexion."

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/13/motorstorm-mondays-the-motorstorm-festival-demo-coming-this-week/
Since Day 1 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/05/20/scea-judges-day-motorstorm-pacific-rift-interview/), I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to put a soundtrack together that would have the right vibe for a festival of racing like MotorStorm (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/MotorStorm). You see, Music is one of those things that no one is ever “wrong” about. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone knows best, but no one is ever wrong! After countless discussions with various people involved in creating the Festival Infrastructure around the MotorStorm racing events, my challenge was set: I needed to put together a lineup that not only fit with a racing game, but one which could feasibly be the Festival line up to end all Festival line ups. It had to be Anarchic, Aggressive and Raucous. That was the easy part. The tough part was making sure that the soundtrack became as much a signature of MotorStorm as the racing itself was.
With Pacific Rift (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/MotorStorm_Pacific_Rift), I faced the same challenge, but this time, it had to go one better. Up to eleven, if you like. First things first, considering this time around we were allowing the player to play their own music while racing: How do we give the player something that, no matter which way it’s looked at, is valuable? How do you put value back in to a licensed soundtrack, when the player can play their own music? After much consideration, the answers came; We are going to be giving you a soundtrack that not only stands up to MotorStorm’s first outing, but also has more than twice the number of tracks of its predecessor, along with a healthy peppering of tracks that we’ve gone directly to the original artists about, asking them to stamp an element of MotorStorm on them. Exclusivity. I’m sure that while everyone will have an opinion on it - and none of you will be wrong - you will all agree that what we’ve ended up with is an absolute monster of a soundtrack, with more than just a little something for everyone!
Lunatics of the world, Unite… The MotorStorm Festival is upon us once more, and promises to pump your ears full of Dirt, Petrol, Mud, Fire and Water… Line up announced!!!
Full track list –
Alex Metric (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=57353797/) – In Your Machine
This guy is just gonna get bigger and bigger. MotorStorm festival organizers tip Alex Metric to be the new kid on the block when it comes to chops, beats and twist up mixes. Currently working on a debut album, he has yet to explode onto the scene, but he will… The MotorStorm Festival is the perfect platform for Metric to make his mark on the Dance scene! Amon Tobin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amon_Tobin) – Trickstep (Pacific Rift Remix) Exclusive!
We got our hands on some new exclusive unreleased tracks from Amon. We loved them all, but Trickstep was top of the bill for MotorStorm. Amon revisited it for us to “MotorStormify” it a bit more, too. Exciting stuff! And Exclusive to the MotorStorm Festival!
Animal Alpha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Alpha/) – Fire Fire Fire
With a voice like sand and glue, and a band that’s full of energy and drive, MotorStorm seemed a perfect fit for Animal Alpha’s Fire Fire Fire, especially since we were setting some of our races in and around a volcano!
Aphex Twin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphex_Twin) - Come To Daddy (Pappy Mix)
Classic Aphex. Dirty, Raucus and edgy. Some might say a little scary too, but that’s all the elements you get in a MotorStorm race anyway…
Black Daniel (http://www.myspace.com/blackdanielspace) – Gimme What You Got (Alex Metric Remix)
Alex Metric puts his shines on Black Daniel; Awesome track!
Black Sun Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sun_Empire_Recordings) & State Of Mind – Red Velvet VIP
Dark Drum and Bass. It’s edgy. BSE have proven in the past that they can do for underground D&B what Pendulum did for Mainstream D&B.
Black Tide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Tide) – Show Me The Way
These guys Rock, Hard! First heard a Metallica cover from them, and I was sold. These guys had to appear at the MotorStorm Festival, and they were keen to oblige! And what an addition it turned out to be! Fantastic band, great sound. Hair rock doesn’t get much hairier than this!
Bodysnatchers (http://www.myspace.com/thebodysnatchersuk) – Twist Up
Reminiscing back to the first MotorStorm Festival, we had Krafty Kuts feature. When I heard this track from the Bodysnatchers, it reminded me of Bass Phenomenon from Krafty. It fit really well, and it certainly twists itself up!
Boys Noize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boys_Noize) – Lava Lava
Boys Noize are making waves with everything they do at the moment. Lava Lava is no exception. It’s gritty, dirty, and it has great attitude. Sick track!
Queens Of The Stone Age (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens_Of_The_Stone_Age) - Sick Sick Sick
Speaking of Sick, There’s never a dull moment with Queens of the Stone Age! These guys kick serious ass and a MotorStorm Festival simply wouldn’t be the same without them.
Bullets and Octane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullets_and_Octane) – I Ain’t Your Savior
Truth be told, it wasn’t only the sound of this track that caught my attention. The energy it has, and the raw sound hits a nerve that makes this stick in your head. Great track to race really, really fast to!
Cut In The Hill Gang (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=242048787) – Soul To Waste (MotorStorm Edit) Exclusive!
An Exclusive edit of a fantastic track from Cut in the Hill Gang. These guys know how to do dirty Rhythm and Blues!
Hervé – Zombie Dance (MotorStorm Edit) Exclusive!
Another exclusive edit for MotorStorm Festival goers to enjoy!
The Exploders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exploders) - Wolf Cub (Pacific Rift Edit) Exclusive!
Another fantastic dirty blues track that simply had to be featured at The Festival! The Exploders were keen to give it a little treatment for us too and came up with this awesome mix, just for our MotorStorm ears!
Ministry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_%28band%29) - Jesus Built My Hotrod
We wanted to include this in the original MotorStorm, but it works just as well in MotorStorm Pacific Rift! A great track and a classic sound for the MotorStorm Festival I’m sure you’ll agree!
Nirvana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana_%28band%29) – Swap Meet (Diplo MotorStorm remix) Exclusive!
This is our big hitter. First time ever, and it’s exclusive to the MotorStorm Festival. MotorStorm has, in the past, managed to sway Nirvana towards the Festival (we had a fantastic reception to Breed, featuring at the first festival), so we wanted to bring them back again, but this time, with a difference. Hotter than hot cakes at the moment, Diplo was fired up to give it some remix treatment and, I think you’ll agree, this is Nirvana like you’ve never heard them before! Incidentally, its 20 years ago that Bleach was first released, and this is a fantastic opportunity to revisit the album and bring some of today’s hottest talent to the table to give it a squeeze. Great track; Great remix. You heard it here first!
Pendulum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendulum_band) - Tarantula (ft Fresh, $pyda & Tenor Fly)
MotorStorm wouldn’t be MotorStorm without a big dollop of hoover led, raucous Drum and Bass action: Pendulum. We brought the Aussie Drum and Bass crew back to the festival with a brilliant track, Tarantula.
The Qemists (http://www.myspace.com/qemists) – Stompbox
We loved it as soon as we heard it. We snapped it up and immediately set to work cutting our E3 movie to this track. This one had the potential to “Stomp” its authority as the new MotorStorm Signature track. It would seem we weren’t the only ones to think this was a fantastic track!
The Qemists (http://www.myspace.com/qemists) - Speed Freak (MotorStorm Remix) Exclusive!
The Qemists are a new breed of warrior on the Drum and Bass scene and I just love to seek out not only what’s hot right now, but what will be hot round the corner, and the Qemists certainly have a fire in their gut right now that MotorStorm simply couldn’t overlook. When we asked the guys to let us bring Stompbox to the stage, they jumped at the chance. Not only that, they offered to knock up something exclusive for us, too! As good as Stompbox was, we couldn’t very well say no – that would just be rude. So we happily said, “yes please”, and boy what a job they did with this track! They took all the elements of a MotorStorm race, all the elements of a MotorStorm Theme, and shoved it all down the barrel of a Shotgun, pulled the trigger and shot this track straight to the main stage! This track Stomps Hard! Another Exclusive track you’ll only hear at the MotorStorm Festival!
Saving Abel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saving_Abel) – New Tattoo
Proper Rock n Roll. We love this track and we’re sure you will too! It has everything you need to drive faster than you should and more dangerously than you can imagine!
Slipknot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipknot_%28band%29) – Sulfur
As of writing this, Sulfur remains unreleased. Though we’re pretty sure not for much longer as the Slipknot guys have nailed it once again. A superb track that sits with the whole vibe of the Festival and the racing action.
Simian Mobile Disco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simian_Mobile_Disco) – Parachute
SMD have taken the UK scene by storm. Another one the Festival could not overlook! Great track, and again, as of writing, it remains unreleased.
Supa Bajo - Lalula (instrumental)
Aka – Freelance Hellraiser. The bass line on this one is outstandingly catchy. It alone ticks all the boxes for a MotorStorm race. What a track!
Ulterior (http://www.myspace.com/electricityisblood) - Weapons
A cross between Underworld and NiN. These guys rock hard in a tech kinda way. Another one to look out for…
Noisia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noisia) - Groundhog (MotorStorm re-edit) Exclusive!
Groundhog is a great track anyway, but Noisia, as awesome as they are, agreed to give it a bit of MotorStorm treatment. Once again, another exclusive track to shove in your ears whilst tearing it up in Paradise.
Clutch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_%28band%29) – Pure Rock Fury
With their strangled guitar riffs and fuzzy raw sound, Clutch were ideal candidates to feature at the MotorStorm Festival. I have no doubt that you’ll agree this track comes armed with enough horsepower to blow the wheels off your vehicle mid race!
David Bowie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie) – Queen Bitch
MotorStorm has never, and will never be about music that simply “Fits the Game”. It’s about a way of life. Lunatics from across the world, all shapes and sizes, all ages, unite to race their way to glory, and we make sure that although we feature tracks to suit everyone, we had no qualms about including something from as far back as the 70’s. It’s an absolute classic, from way back when… I was hugely skeptical as to whether we would be able to license this one, but it’s an absolutely killer track, so we pleaded, and we got it!
Death From Above 1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_From_Above_1979) – Blood On Our Hands (Justice Remix)
Though Death from Above 1979 disbanded, their music has left its footprint on the music scene, being picked up by dance producers, bands and remixers alike. Having this remix from French duo Justice feature at the Festival is something that always makes me smile! It also makes me drive extremely dangerously on the track! You gotta love the dirt and filth this track exudes from the very offset!
Death From Above 1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_From_Above_1979) – Romantic Rights (Erol Alkins Re-Edit)
“Two tracks from the same band!?”, you may wonder, but believe me, when you hear this, you’ll understand why the phrase “Erol keeps the kids dancing” is so appropriate! Erol Alkan’s remix of this fantastic DFA 1979 track is sublime! It brings you right up to the very top, then lets you go free-falling through the drop! A powerful remix of an adrenalin fuelled track. Outstanding.
DJ Fresh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_Fresh) – Chainsaw
DJ Fresh has been a pioneer of the D&B scene for many years, working with some of the best over the years including Pendulum. He’s the bread and butter of Drum and Bass, and to have an opportunity to include an unreleased track at the Festival didn’t sit long on the table. I snapped it up as soon as I heard it. I’m sure those of you into the D&B thing are gonna be in for a real rare treat with this one!
Fatboy Slim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatboy_Slim) - Everybody Needs A 303 (Plump DJs remix)
Take a jug, add Fatboy Slim, Plump DJ’s and one of the most prolific and prominent commercial dance tracks ever, and give it a shake. What do you get? Conviction behind the claim that Everybody needs a 303. This track is classic too, but in a different way from Bowie or Nirvana. Works great when you’re tearing up the mud through the thick jungle!
Goose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goose_%28band%29) – Black Glove (Bloody Beetroots Remix)
The Bloody Beetroots are coming out of the blocks at 90kph right now, and when they lent their touches to this fantastic track from Goose, they really pumped it! Brilliant track, great drive and it just oozes class.
Hadouken! (http://www.myspace.com/hadoukenuk) - Liquid Lives (Noisa instrumental mix)
Fast cars go hand in hand with fast guitars. Throw a thick heavy beat under it and you get Liquid Lives with the Noisia touch. More than ample pace and tempo to make you wanna take out your opponents rather than just beat them to the finish line.
The Hives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hives) - No Pun Intended
The Hives have a certain energy to them. Impossible to overlook. They are a great outfit and definitely know how to put a driving track together!
In Flames (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Flames) - Move Through Me
In Flames are huge. And deservedly so. They can go toe to toe with the best of them, and this is evidence that they are more than capable of holding their own at the MotorStorm Festival. We wanted this track as soon as we put it in the mix.
Leftfield (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leftfield) - Phat Planet
A lot of you are going to recognize this track as “The Guinness ad music”. And right you’d be. But let me explain why I chose this one for the Festival. The Guinness ad is all about Hawaiian Surfers, waiting for the perfect wave. “He waits. It’s what he does.” I wanted to convey this ethos by using this track in a similar capacity. Sure not many would get it at first, but the fact that this island, through all its years of being shaped by the land and clothed by nature, has been waiting for the perfect storm to hit its shores… MotorStorm brings exactly that, and it brings with it an end to The Island laying in wait. The wave has arrived, in the form of lunatics and masochists converging on the slopes of this land, ready to tear it up! …but the island won’t take it lying down. It WILL fight back. The bass line on this track says it all. The Island has been waiting for you…
Machine Head (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Head_%28band%29) – Davidian
Machine Head go all the way up to eleven! There’s no doubt… and Davidian is a long standing classic. An anthem for anarchy. It’s time to rumble.
March – Influence Exclusive!
March are no strangers to the rock scene, and when I approached the band about featuring at the festival, they set straight to work. When they threw this track at me, it completely floored me. It’s dynamic, aggressive, and fresh. Exactly all the ingredients for the MotorStorm Festival I’m sure you’ll agree.
Megadeth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megadeth) - Sleepwalker
One of Megadeth’s newer tracks and, as you’d expect from classic rockers Megadeth, this is the very definition of power rock. \m/
Nick Thayer (http://www.myspace.com/djnickthayer) - Mind Control
With flavors of Big Beat and tech house synth lines, Nick Thayer nails it for the Festival. Perfect dance track to suit the atmosphere of the racing and festival.
Parker - Western Soul featuring Rasco (Aphrodite Remix – MotorStorm Dub)
Yet another exclusive! Parker joins up with Aphrodite to bring us this drum and bass mash up. The bass line wraps itself around you and completely pumps the adrenalin. Great track!
The Planets – Slasher Exclusive!
This track was dropped on my desk as we were approaching the finishing touches to the soundtrack, but it was too good to pass up. The guys revisited the track for us and gave it a bit of MotorStorm flavor. It sits right up there with the best of the soundtrack
Primal Scream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primal_Scream) - Necro Hex Blues
We featured two Primal Scream tracks on MotorStorm, and when I heard they were releasing a new album very close to Pacific Rift’s release date, I managed to get my hands on it for a listen. This track features Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age on guitars, and the opportunity was not one I wanted to pass up! It’s everything you’d expect from Primal Scream, and everything you’d expect to hear at the MotorStorm Festival. Brilliant!
Saviours (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saviours_%28band%29) – Caverns Of Mind
From Oakland CA, Saviours rock hard. This track was one of the first tracks we had on the table for the MotorStorm Festival, and after I’d played a couple of races to this one, it had to be featured. Pedal-to-the-metal rock.
South Central (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Central_%28band%29) – Golden Dawn
Dubbed as a Post Glitch; Indie/Electro; Dance-Rocktronica band. When I heard Golden Dawn, I knew it would work almost instantly. Brilliantly produced, and full of energy, the South Central guys hit the nail on the proverbial head
The Whip (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Whip_%28band%29) – Trash
From Manchester UK, The Whip are “whipping” up a storm on the scene and will soon explode worldwide! This track is fantastic and sits perfectly well in the festival environment. These guys are not to be missed!

I already preordered this at Amazon since it was in my gold box today and I used the $10 off. I'll try the demo and if it's good enough then I will just keep the order, otherwise I'll just have to cancel it. Thanks for the heads up, FriskyTanuki (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/member.php?u=1040). I never liked the first one so I'm not holding my breath on Pacific Rift but you never know.

Hi MotorStorm fans! One week to go until the launch of MotorStorm Pacific Rift (http://www.motorstorm.com/). Hopefully you’ve been getting some good information on the game from Nigel and the team from Evolution Studios in their weekly MotorStorm Monday posts (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/motorstorm-pacific-rift/).
If you haven’t seen it yet, please keep your eyes out for the recently completed commercial of MotorStorm Pacific Rift. In an effort to introduce the new, remote island location, there were a few real-life Stormers who strapped into their ATVs, bikes, buggies and trucks and jumped from a C-130 Hercules at 10,000 feet in an effort to start the invasion of Pacific Rift. No special effects on this jump … just pure adrenaline and gritty attitude. Check out the commercial above along with some photos from the shoot.

Monster trucks rock.I second that but they are too slow for me. It's also annoying when other vehicles get stuck under you and it ends up screwing you over too.

That commercial was pretty cool. Unfortunately, far too many games coming out and this one will have to wait down the line. Absolutely enjoyed the first one though and it looks like this one is a solid follow-up.

I disagree about the demo being hard, you just need to get used to how the vehicles handle. It's very difficult playing Midnight Club and going into Motorstorm, however, and it takes more to get used to it.

I started finishing higher in the demo.
Anyway, once I buy VC and R2, this will be the NEXT PS3 game I buy. I really want it, no doubt. Once I get it, I will find out who all has it at CAG and started pushing game nights.

I personally loved the demo. Granted, it had a high learning curve, but I still had a lot more fun with this on my generic biker than in the original on my Monarch 3. Also, crashing still kicks a ton of ass.

The game's fun. It's a much more polished version of the original. Having fun so far, but I don't see myself playing a lot once I'm done with it. Sweet game though and I"ll probably have it a least a month more so if you set something up I'll be there for a race or two.
The online is setup pretty well though mana. You can setup a group and invite whoever in, and they can invite their friends if they like. The group sticks together. Max group of 12, but if you want to play ranked games max group of 4 so no cheating happens.

I'm liking the more open Festival mode, but I still have to go back and replay races to move them up from Bronze to Gold after I play the few new races I get with each rank. That makes me wish it was much more open, like Burnout Paradise's set-up that just makes the next race a bit harder each time instead of just having them all at set difficulties.
It's lot of fun when I'm not replaying races. Some of these tracks are huge, with a bunch of alternate paths that give me a reason to try other vehicles and see where they go. I really like the lava levels.
The Mana Knight

Hey Mana... how's the turnout for CAG night in this? I might pick it up at sale price if a lot of us are playing.
The Mana Knight
12-15-2008, 09:43 AM
There are not many playing yet, but I really hope more pick it up so we can play (right now it's two of us). What we do for this game currently is create a party, then we all search for an online match (usually ranked if it's 4 or less in the party). The game is worth it for the single player alone, and the online is very good too.
Gotchya.. The first one was a blast although I never downloaded the update patch to play online since the singleplayer got so hard without using the boost glitch. I'm in on this (especially since you're taking CAG Burnout night away every other week for it ;) ). I imagine a few members will pick it up on sale and a lot of people are holding out on (other games as well) buying until Christmas or after. January should be a good month for CAG gaming.
Edit: Game is in hand. Count me in for tomorrow night for sure. I'll be playing for the first or second time, so take it easy on me ;) I also sat down and got my platinum trophy in Burnout over the weekend so I'll be ok with cooling out on that for a while (even though it's in my Top 10 games I've ever played). Sons of guns added the party trophies already so I only show as 90% right now.. kinda lame if you ask me.

I posted this in the Circuit City deals thread but I thought some of you might get a kick out of it, as well:
I was browsing PS3 games at the Circuit City in Cortland Manor, NY today and noticed that they had both editions of Motorstorm (the original and Pacific Rift, the sequel) marked at $29.99.
So I snagged a copy of Pacific Rift and brought it to the counter...where it rang up at $59.99. I pointed out the price sticker to the cashier who then adjusted it to the lower price without batting an eye.
If you're anywhere near this store they had 3-4 more copies with "$29.99" stickers on them. I combined mine with a $10 gift card that I got with my Battlefield: Bad Company purchase a few months back and ended up paying just over $20 for it, with tax.
So...I'd be up for some CAG Motorstorm one of these nights. Just shoot me an invite.

TBH, at the moment, I'm not really sure if I'll just continue with Burnout Paradise, or play MotorStorm: PR this week. I gotta see who all is in for Burnout Paradise also. If MotorStorm: PR picks up enough people (I tried posting in the deal threads encouraging people to buy this excellent game), most likely it will have its own right (It has been just three of us for a while. I even considered combining GAF into the mix to boost nights).

Well it looks like a few have picked this up over the last week so I think it's feasible getting a party of 4 together this Tuesday.
I'd be up for it anyway.

I'll most likely start a thread for the game, and try to get the word out more. I'll get to that tomorrow or so (I might not worry about Burnout Paradise this week or move it, but I'll revive it once the next update hits).

Also there's no option to mute people wtf? Very disappointing

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about that, either. Weak.
Regardless...are we playing tonight?

Anyone having trouble with the single player campaign?
I'm in the latter half of the stages (rank 6 or so) and I honestly think the AI is just out to get me.
Instead of trying to win the race individually, they instead try to kill me. They often stop in front of me for no reason, pursue me even though I brake to let them pass, or just plain drive me off the road along with themselves. I'm sure it's suppose to ramp up in difficulty as I progress, but the AI is just starting to look cheap.
I can no longer count the times I had to restart/retry.

I can no longer count the times I had to restart/retry.I haven't had much trouble yet. While there's no denying if you mess up a lot, you'll be behind. However, the first MotorStorm had a much steeper difficulty climb to a point it was near impossible to get in the top 3. The key point is to not wreck so much and learn shortcuts.

Well, I've been playing this game a lot. Not because I am in love with it (though I do enjoy it a lot), but because I'm sorely determined to beat the game. The later levels (I'm on rank 8 now) are ridiculous. I am able to run very good runs, the kind with excellent boost usage, optimal paths taken, and little to no crashes. Despite this, the game has rubberband AI. No matter how good I race, the rest of the pack is behind me. If you want to get all the golds in this game, you better expect to restart/retry several times. Even many people on the gamefaqs board attest to this horrible screw you over AI and luck based racing as you approach the latter tickets. Even if I'm at max boost and at top speed, I usually see another vehicle with lower speed and boost pass me up easy.
And personally, most of the music doesn't help me get over this...

I bought it a couple of days ago (Target PM at CC for $36.90). I quite like it, at least early on. I don't think it's as good as Pure, but it's still a lot of fun and looks amazingly good. I always appreciate great track design and this game has some truly stunning ones. I like the variety of the tracks and how the lava and water affect your boost. I liked the geo-deformation used in the first game and it's pretty much the same here. I find it prett disappointing that sometimes very small rocks or trees that you just clip can make you come to a complete stop -- in a physics based game it really sticks out like a sore thumb.

I played for a few hours last night and quickly got a lot better at it...next time we play I shouldn't suck nearly as much! ;)
Is it just me, or are some of the vehicles just downright un-driveable? The ATV doesn't even fucking turn! How do you make a racing game and completely take all of the fun out of riding an ATV?
I don't think I'm going to try to finish the single player on this...I just don't find it very compelling. It's a lot of fun online and exploring the paths through each course is cool but I just don't have the patience to deal with the crap that option.iv is encountering. I'm only on the 4th or 5th race in each element and I'm restarting fairly often...I'm not going to keep playing if that's just going to get worse.
In other news, I know some of you have objections with it but I think this is easily one of the best videogame soundtracks I've listened to in a while. Vastly superior to the first Motorstorm and the recent Burnout games.

Same here, which is sad because I find the game awesome. I feel more compelled by the online because of the levelling system. The thing that bugs me is that there doesn't seem to really be any trophies associated with the SP campaign. I'm almost to Level 7 or whatever its called and I've only really got that one trophy that says 'reach level 3 to unlock ...'. I know the way the trophies are structured its trying to get you to play with all the vehicles/get the most out the game but a couple of trophies for maybe levels 2,4,6 and 8 have killed em? /rant
The inclusion of Leftfield - Phat Planet made my day when I first heard it. Awesome track.
EDIT: Speaking of trophies I just got 3 in one shot. I won my first online race (1), didn't wreck while winning it (2) and ranked up a level (3). Crazy I say.

I have quite a few from the campaign, I am up to 18 total trophies and some you can get in Freeplay easily, like The Money Shot, Freestyle, Survivor. Tophies like race for 5 hours, 250 crashes, and win 5 races with each vehicle will all come easily after playing a bit.
I also break up playing the single player with online. I enjoy the single player but is thoroughly frustrating at times, if i lose a race more than a few times i skip it or come back another day and usually beat it the first try then. I think playing through the the SP helps me find better strategies for certain tracks which help me race online. Ranking up online seems like it will definitely take a long time, once you get to rookie silver unless you finish 1st you bar barley moves.

-Also feel free to anyone who wants to play online to send a friend invite.
I've been finding myself smacking into the 'frame' of the finish line while doing the money shot almost half the time. I swear that I've shot past a CAG member doing it before, but does it actually make you move faster than not blowing up?

I'm not quite sure, but it sure as hell looks cool.
Anyways, I think you'd get better times if you use boost efficiently, as in, never letting it go down to zero and blowing up at max across the finish line.
Single player is so 'hard', I've lost count of how many times I've restarted. And yeah, I too feel like I have to watch out for every single pebble so as to not crash. Usually two crashes or more and I usually have to restart right then and there. At least the game is not exactly a walk in the park considering how easy it is to crash. Sort of adds a little touch of that random factor mixed with driving skill and track knowledge.
From trying the demo of Pure, I'd have to say Motorstorm is slightly better if I were to compare the two regarding gameplay. But in terms of value, I'd give it to Pure (if you can find it at Target for $14.99, I couldn't). Motorstorm has a lot to unlock and various strategy. Pure to me seems like whoever spams their tricks will win it, though I haven't even experienced anything outside the demo (i.e. customizable parts). If Pure had split screen, I'd definitely give more of an effort into finding it.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/01/26/motorstorm-pacific-rift-game-update-just-around-the-corner/
The first major update for MotorStorm Pacific Rift (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/MotorStorm_Pacific_Rift) is currently in the final stages of development and testing. This update contains many improvements and amendments to the game, as well as fixes to several issues reported on the forum, and is scheduled for release in the near future. Details of the first update:
Restrictions to the copying of Saved Data have been removed. This will make it possible for Saved Data to be backed up and then restored to the User Account it was created under (whether that’s on the same PLAYSTATION 3 or not).*
Changes to the way the game handles data. These changes will help to prevent Saved Data corruption.
Visual notification of critical save progress has been added. A ‘MotorStorm Helmet’ icon will be displayed on-screen to warn users that critical data is being saved. This is in addition to the HDD Access light which currently flashes while the game makes a critical save.
The glitch which enables a player to exploit the Boost system has been removed. The development team are working to identify which times have been achieved using this glitch; Action will be taken to ensure that the Leaderboards become genuinely competitive again.
Time Attack times and Rank information will update correctly for all players. Any pending Time Attack times will begin to filter through systematically and the online Ranks should display correctly once the update is released.
Additional fixes and improvements to gameplay. Many thanks for your feedback on these and other issues so far; we are still investigating the other issues that have been brought to our attention.
Should you notice anything about the game that you feel needs to be brought to our attention, please let us know via the VIP.MotorStorm.com (http://vip.motorstorm.com/ms/portal) forums.
An update is coming soon.

I am loving this game. I put in a little time again yesterday. For right now its getting all my play time on the PS3. Due to a issue with my last PS3 I lost all my saves on LBP so I got to get back to that but this game is such a refreshing racer. I love all the alt root. I have to play lvls again and again to get 1st place and move on so its nice to find yet another route on my 8th time through.
I have not played online with it yet but I will charge my headset tonight and give that a go.

Thanks. Did they address the horrible voice chat?
I'm sure many find it hard to hold a conversation, let alone a full sentence since voice chat drops so often.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/13/motorstorm-pacific-rift-game-update-and-free-dlc/
There is a string of new, free DLC coming for the next eight weeks and a new update is out that introduces the new Microbadge feature.
Hope you’re having fun ripping it up in the jungle on Pacific Rift because starting this Thursday, May 14th, we’ll be sending a downloadable vehicle livery pack your way every week for the next eight weeks exclusively via PlayStation Store (http://blog.us.playstation.com/category/playstation-network/playstation-store-playstation-network/). Each pack features new paint jobs for three vehicles, and the full set will give MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/MotorStorm_Pacific_Rift) players a cutting-edge new look for every single vehicle class in the game: Mudpluggers, Quad Bikes, Monster Trucks, Rally Cars and more. Each new livery has been designed by one of Evolution’s top studio artists and the result is a collection of some of the craziest and out-there vehicle sprays ever seen in a racing game!
And to top it off, all these liveries are FREE!
Additionally, Game Update #2 was just released, and provides a number of useful fixes and updates for MotorStorm Pacific Rift. These include:
Sugar Rush short-cut removed – The short-cut to the left of the “keep right” arrows going into the sugar field was not intentionally included and has been removed
Sugar Rush respawn point fixed – Crashing at a certain point on the track no longer respawns the vehicle in a generous position
Inclusion of Microbadges
Actually, wanted to focus on these new Microbadges as these are very cool ways of giving each player a distinct identity when online in MotorStorm Pacific Rift (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/motorstorm-pacific-rift/).
Microbadges are in-game displayable ‘medals’ which let you flaunt your proudest personal accomplishments and your off-road racing prowess to every other racer online.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3328/3523245519_6b525f36ba_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3523245519/) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3338/3524050168_6d3f3035bf_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3524050168/)
Microbadges go beyond the usual Trophies that MotorStorm Pacific Rift already awards; the idea is that they should be dedicated to things you’d want other players to know about while you’re racing online. Here are some examples:
Gold Festival – Completed Pacific Rift Festival with all Gold medals
Immortal – Win an Online Ranked race without wrecking
Flame and Fortune – 20 Boost explosion wins
Time Attack Master – Record an impressive Time Attack time on any Leaderboard
Supreme Victor – Win any Online or Offline race by a margin of 15 seconds
Microbadges are displayed beneath each Online ID, and players can display up to three badges from the get-go. Three more badge slots (there are six slots total) can be earned by working up the online ranks, and players can unlock 40 microbadges total. Players can choose which badges to show off and highlight what they’ve achieved in the game. Microbadges will also provide retroactive credit, so if you’ve already put in the hours, you’ll be reaping the rewards.
