I'm waiting for some reviews myself. I understand the 'rare' factor but if the game is a piece of shit, then I'm saving my $50.

I'm sure there was a thread about this game somewhere around here...
Anyway, RPGFan is the only place I've found so far that has reviewed it. You can find the review here: http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/growlanserv/index.html
They do talk the game down quite a bit, with a final score of 65/100, iirc.

I have the one that came out about 2 years ago or so. I have yet to even play it. I plan on geting this one soon. Maybe Monday if I have the cash when I pay off Halo 3.

Mine is in the middle of shipping but I'm going to play and beat Eternal Sonata first. Then I'll need to decide between Growlanser V, Halo 3, or Soul Nomad.

Ah, I was looking for a detailed pic of the bonuses, thanks.
From the picture, the artbook looks like it's made of the same paper used to print the manual. Is it? And what's on the CD?

i picked it up this morning.
the artbook is nice, it covers all of growlanser, i think. it's better quality than the manual, the pictures are nice, but i was hoping for hard cover like the persona 3 art book.
i really liked generations, but i guess the battle system on this is so much different, so i'm on the fence. i probably wont even really get into it until after eternal sonata.
What's in the media disc?

I bought it, but it's going to be waiting until after I finish Eternal Sonata.

Anyone get it from Best Buy? They had it listed on their website briefly.

Picked up my copy from GameStop on Wednesday. Probably won't be opened for awhile, but didn't want to miss out on a seal copy.

I don't know if I can do $50 on a PS2 game anymore. I bought Persona 3 for full price and haven't even opened it yet. I didn't really like the Growlanser Generations games either. If it's still available new in November, after Oblivion GOTY, Halo 3 and the Orange Box, I'll probably get it.

I pre ordered it from Amazon but it's only being prepared to ship and won't actually ship for another day or two.
Here's a review up and it's not looking too good.

I just picked up mine at Game Crazy for $39.99 :D
The price tag on the shelf said $39.99 but it rang up $49.99. The clerk adjusted it for me and then quickly corrected the tag on the shelf. The printed ad in the store has it mispriced at $39.99 too.

If RPGFan gives a game below an 80/100, then you know it's total shit.
I'm usually not one to emphasize graphics over gameplay/story, but in Growlanser V: Generations, the production values are so low that it significantly detracts from the experience. Even the menu graphics are simply terrible; the background in the Plate Flow screen is a simple blue/green gradient that a 12 year old could construct in Adobe Photoshop in less than 30 seconds. The transition from 2D to 3D was done in a rushed manner, and all of the cut corners are painfully obvious.
Glad I'm not the only one who realizes how poor this game looks. The videos were almost as bad as that one clip of RE Extinction posted in the official thread in OT.

Can anyone compare this new growlanser to GL Generations? I recently picked that up at GS and I like it a lot.
Just want to know if GL V is alot like the others

The story isn't exactly centered around one person through the entire game. On top of that the gameplay has changed quite a bit and is a little bit like Final Fantasy XII. Also the skill rings are gone and it was replaced with a skill tree type thing which I don't have much experience with.
I wouldof much rather of had IV than V and then maybe skipped straight to VI for localization. From what I've played so far (II, III, most of IV, and a little bit of V) I feel that V has the worst gameplay of the four games with III and IV the best.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this game... it's been almost a week.
And Amazon delayed my shipment until October... boo! Guess that gives me a bit more time to think on it.

Exactly how I feel about the game. Reading their review a while back took any desire to purchase this game away.

After watching the youtube videos out there, this just doesn't look like it's worth buying... at all. Everything about it simply looks shoddy.

I exchanged it for Metroid Prime 3 after they wouldn't price-modify it to $40 at GameCrazy. Would I have any luck price-matching it at Best Buy or Circuit City? I wonder if they would even have it.

Does anyone have any personal impressions on the gameplay?
The youtube vids remind me a bit of The Lord of the Rings game for the SNES (movement, etc). The only thing I've taken away from any of the videos is that the graphics are somewhat subpar and that the menu is accessed frequently.

Yeah, all we've had is the import rpgfan review...uhh...damn you TGS and Halo 3! Won't someone review this game!
I went to gamestop today and they had a sealed copy so I picked it up.
As well as some used games that came in.

I tried again to get this today, but apparently these boxes are fragile or something. Both Gamecrazy and Best Buy couldnt get it in without beating the shit out of it. Next I'll wait on Toysrus and then Gamestop as a last resort.
I don't even want to play the damn game!

I'd recommend Generations over this. The combat here is pseudo real-time; you can move around the map freely, but the ATW (waiting time between attacks) still apply. Your party members are also automatically controlled unless you give them specific commands. And I would've preferred not having to visit towns or other locations (a la Growlanser II or Final Fantasy Tactics) and other conventional JRPG shitfuckery, because the maps here are as nondescript as they come.

For some reason I really doubt ill even open my copy of the game.

Thus is the curse of games in cardboard boxes. I remember paying extra for Dragon Quest VIII online because all the copies I'd seen in stores looked like someon had thrown them on the ground and stomped on them.

When I heard you could only control ONE CHARACTER, and it wasn't anything like the excellent, supremely addictive fighting in Growlanser Generations, I instantly passed on this game.
Anyone else notice a disturbing trend in RPG's, the ability to only control 1 character? It single handedly ruined Person 3 for me, it feels like the CPU is playing the game for me. I want to control EVERYONE.

Well, you can still play the game the traditional way if you want to. When a battle first starts, your party members are controlled by the AI. If you tell them to attack, move, or cast a spell or whatever, you're then prompted for another command as soon as the action is completed. If you continue to give them commands, then it plays very much like the old Growlansers. It just doesn't work as well here since you're not confined to a grid and you can move freely.

That's for Generations, not Heritage of War.
EDIT: Oh wait, nevermind, I'm confused. I didn't play Generations. Either way, it doesn't seem that bad.. 70% for gameplay and 80% for controls.

I played for 2hrs and so far, I think it blows. Or maybe I'm just not a fan of RTS.
I'll play some more after I beat Shadow Hearts. :D
