I've read a few threads about keeping games sealed and I am usually the person that says to open games. You bought them to play them right? The only exception I make to this is if I buy a game new and then find a dirt cheap copy before I get the game onto my playlist. This is why I still have a seal SMT Nocturne. Well, now I cant decide to open two games I bought to play. The reason is because of their age and how few sealed copies might exist. The games are Exile and Cosmic Fantasy 2 for the Turbo Duo. I bought these for $50 shipped (for both) on ebay, which I thought was a good price for two used copies together, let alone two new copies. They probably came from any liquadation of Working Designs wherehouse stock. They are somewhat easy to find sealed now, but wont be soon. Should I open these? Or should I try to buy used copies instead and sell the new ones?

General rule of thumb:

If a game is more than two generations old, keep it sealed.

the answer is no. i will personally come to your house and lock it up in the closet where you wont find it. games that old you should never open. how much does the games go for used?

speaking of WD..now that you mentioned it, a few people are selling huge amounts of them online 1 by 1. i guess they really did clear their inventory and sold it dirt cheap to distributors or just normal people.

yeah, WD games have been up on ebay for a few months now. The games would have been $40 for both, but the guy decided not to combine shipping because he said "you got a sweet deals for these games and I am not making any money". He is being reported to ebay now since the games arrived, two weeks after winning the auction. For $50 it was still a good deal, now I guess Ill have to shell out another $20 to get a used Cosmic Fantasy 2. I really want to play that game, I could care less about Exile. I know the value will go up in the next year, Its just hard to look at that Cosmic Fantasy 2 and not paly it. Old school RPG goodness.

Both games are in the $20-$30 shipped range apiece used. These do not include outer box.
Examples are on my watchlist I have a $27 shipped Exile I lost and a $23 Shipped Cosmic Fantasy II I lost. Those are the cheapest examples, there a more expensive ones on my watchlist also.

But if a game is current or last gen and you don't hear the telltale rattle of the disc moving around in the package a bit and you JUST bought it, open it before too long passes or you may find your package is EMPTY too late.

eh...if you really want to play it then play it...there are plenty of old games that even though they are sealed doesnt add much value

i know Turbo Duo games are hard to come by but if they are released on the Virtual Console or some other format then the value may not hold

Turbo Zone Direct still has a nice selection available that are still brand new but no Cosmic Fantasy

Buy a used copy, play/beat it, and then sell it again.

good point there. somehow i'm afraid that all of these hard to find games will end up either on virtual console (most likely) or xbox live. its good, and bad, and good. good that everyone else will have a chance to play it. its bad because collectors invested on those games and the value like you said may not hold any longer. its also good because jackasses, i mean, companies like gamequestdirect will not be able to reprint them.

Games def in there and they are not resealed because they have the Super CD sticker on them that were on WD games. It would've of been a awful lot of trouble for someone to get a replica Super CD sticker.

Not really worried about virtual console release, games will find their way one there but it usually doesnt kill the price of the original. Prices usually only go over the cliff if the game is reprinted on the same console. Valkyrie Profile still holds its value after being remade for a new console, Final Fantasy 2 (US) has been released several times and still fetches over $30, so I dont think the value of any old games will tank as long as they dont re-release the game on the exact same format, in the exact same packaging.
