MARCH 6, 2008! = DAY OF KENZAN!

If anyone is interested in importing the game... Play-Asia has preorders up for both the Asian and Japanese version. The main difference is the Asian version has either Chinese/English added to the instruction manual. The Asian version is usually cheaper as well.

$74.90 - Japanese Version

If anyone wants, I have three $5 off $50 coupons I will give if ppl decide to import this game! PM me!

And if Play-Asia isn't your flavor you can import the game at NCSX, which is based in New York...

UPDATE 09/22/07

I'm super excited for Ryu Ga Gotoku 3! I imported/played the first two and after watching what Sega has in store for part 3, I am shittin' bricks....

Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 takes place in the Edo period, which is the birthplace of the Yakuza in Japan. The story centers around Kiryuu Kazumanosuke as the main character. He lives in the Rion region and pretty much does whatever he wants and lives a carefree lifestyle. It's not until a certain series of events that he sets off from Rion to go to other places in Japan.

Basically Kiryuu is the legendary Miyamoto Musashi... BUT during his peaceful times in Rion, someone has been causing terror all over Japan using his name. So this imposter Miyamoto Musashi has been giving Kiryuu a bad name and a little girl who Kiryuu meets with sees how strong he is and begs of him to "Please KILL Miyamoto Musashi"... It is only then when Kiryuu realizes there is someone using his name.

Also if you noticed in the trailer it shows Kiryuu fighting against another swordsman and is having trouble against him... he asks him "WHO ARE YOU!"... the man replies... "I am Sasaki Kojiro!" Crazy!

Can't wait for this game!

Ancestor of Kiryuu Kazuma = Miyamoto Musashi = hot...

Also you can see Majima's ancestor in the trailer lol!

I can't wait either, but I'm not as cool as you so I haven't played Yakuza 2 yet ;)

Can't wait for Yakuza2 to come here locally either.

I really liked the first game despite the horrible choice to dub it. I'm kind of leary about the 3rd one though. Not sure if I like this shift to the Edo period.

dont forget the trailer is on the JPN PSN.

I'm going to play the series backwards.

Yakuza 3, Yakuza 1, then 2...

imascrub
11-03-2007, 11:22 PM
yea despite the dubs, Yakuza was still the first game that I couldn't stop playing and finished in a long time.

whoknows

The dubs didn't bother me too much, besides Eliza Dushku (her voice is really annoying. Had to mute the TV everytime she talked) and I looked at who did Haruka's voice...bad idea. That kinda ruined her character for me.

You will need to make a Japanese account first... here's a quick tutorial on how to do it:

I love the insertion of random J-drama stars into the mix.

Is it just me or does the main character look like Nagase Tomoya?

I got through both demos... the one with the main character wearing white is more of what the game will feel like while the dark clothed one gives you a good idea what all the action oriented parts and geisha stuff will be like.

Sucks I woke up kind of late, since my internet speed at my apartment starts to slow down throughout the day.

Yeah, I'm downloading the demos now. Probably won't finish until tomorrow, but I'm excited. :D

you will cry when you see what they offer when compared to the US.

I really enjoyed the demos. I'm glad they kept the gameplay similar to Ryu Ga Gotoku 1/2...

I'm definitely going to import this come March... next day air and everything lol...

I played through Ryu Ga Gotoku 1/2 in Japanese and even though I didn't 100% understand the game, it was some of the best gaming I've had on PS2.

I hope this is the same for KENZAN!

PS3 is lookin' good this year for me... 2007 and 2006 were asstacular as a whole... 2008 I already have 5 games that I'm hyped for!

Anyway. I played the first demo. Definitely enjoying it. It does seem like the graphic engine was ported from PS2 (by looking at the character models), but there's no slowdown really and the textures looks great. Definitely enjoyed the demo, although I did not understand any words. I'll download the mini-game demo tomorrow.

Just a head's up if you haven't already tried it, There's now some kind of survey or something after all the steps listed in that ign guide when you try to set up a JPN account. I did it last night. Basically you just make a bunch of random choices and keep hitting the bottom right button to move forward. Eventually you'll get to the store. Just takes a few extra steps.

Does the asian version have English subs or is everything in another language? Also, I noticed that Intelligence Qube is on the Japanese PSN. Are the PS1 games all in Japanese or do they have English options?

MarkMan

The PS1 games are as they were released in Japan. They did not alter them unless it had to be(due to old copyrights expiring, or other various reasons, etc).

The Asian version of the game will NOT have English subs. :(

bballplaya210

Thanks for the quick answer. Too bad it doesn't have English subs. I would have gotten it but I would be completely lost without the subs.

I feel you... I played through the first two in Japanese, using online FAQs and reading forums for help/translations... that wasn't too bad... It got me really hyped to replay Yakuza again in English... I'm SO looking forward to Yakuza 2 as well...

I'm waiting eagerly for Yakuza2 to come out in the US...
Played the japanese version but only got about halfway through the first disc (just guessing), till I think I got stuck and couldn't move on with the story. Tried to follow as much as I could with my limited understanding of the language, but eventually it just became too much for me lol.

not here. $60+ is a bitch much for me when I can hardly understand the dialogue ><
I tried playing RgG2 on ps2 and ended up making it through a good number of hours to it, but I eventually got stuck and by that time I was skipping through all the dialogue cuz I didn't have the patience to pick out the things I understood lol

I don't really see the point in importing games when I can't understand them... Especially when it's a story centered game like this.

yea I will just be getting the game in english lol
Does anybody know when it will hit stateside? And when Yakuza2 will even hit ps2? Presumably it'd be before Yakuza3 yea? But since there is no real connection with 2 and 3...don't know if they will take their time with it and possibly release after the 3rd one...

MarkMan

Off topic..

My god, the Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza)movie was so shitty... They put in together random elements of the videogame and did not take time to connect the storyline at all.

But it was pretty funny lol.

They really should have kept the same actors from the promotional prequel vids that Miike directed....

Its not that hard to get the basic ideas through hand motions and facial expressions of what the charachters are doing. It'll be ok.
