Now, I've been looking around, and it's been bugging me for a while. I sure as hell ain't paying well nigh $100 (probably MOAR since the $ is so low against the £) for Halo 3, so I'm looking for a way out.

I know that the DS is region free, and non-Movie UMDs are region free for the PSP. But I'm hearing a lot about the 360 being region free (somewhat), and CheapyD's discussion in the last episode has spurred me to finally get a straight answer.

Is the region protection on a game based on the console, or on the game? I am asking in the sense of will I be able to play a US game on a UK console, if it has no specifically mentioned region protection (Play-Asia I <3 for noting restrictions)? Or, would I be bound to playing PAL games on PAL consoles, and NTSC on NTSC consoles?

Sorry if you're confused. I sure as hell am.

It's based on the game. Here's a pretty comprehensive list of what's region free and what's not:

It's also a great place to buy the games.

Also your 360 can play PAL DVDs. It works for me because I am into british bands that don't release their music or DVDs here in the USA...

I can only confirm PAL DVDs region 0... (that's all I have)
