Saw that on Gamespot yesterday. My money already went to 2K5, sorry Madden.

What I want to know is where did they get that number. Is that all time or 2005 pre-orders? I call BS on the latter.

Probably purchases of Madden 2004. Its way too low to be an all-time number, but I agree, its too high to be 2005 pre-orders.

All I know is that Madden 2005 would have to be the ultimate shit to be better than 2K5. This has actually been the first football game I've been addicted to since NFL 2K and before that only to the Tecmo series.

I know I won't be picking up a Madden this year, and if the ESPN series stays at $20, I'll never be buying one.

I really hope ESPN cuts away at maddens sales. So far i've haerd that sega's product is better. I know it wont outsell madden, but i do hope it cuts down their sales a little.

It should've been like this:

"The REAL football season starts on Aug 19 for all casual gamers and Madden fanboys."

I think they got completely blown off the line this year. I think the price point and the early release caught them flat footed in surprise and they're reacting as opposed to marketing.

Sad to say that ESPN is going to get outsold but hey.... Madden is the most powerful brand in gaming. It trounces Halo, GTA or anything else. Before you disagree with me name one game that has had the annual impact Madden has for 15 years.

I bought 2K5 for xbox and didn't really like it. Don't get me wrong it is good, better than I expected, but after I played it for a while a friend challenged me in madden, and I just cant do 2k5 anymore. I LOVED the original 2k, and 2K1 popped my online sports cherry. Something is missing, it didn't feel right to me, maybe its the controller.

I think the ad might actually be directed towards the real NFL, to be fair. Though yeah, NFL2k5 is where my money went, too. Sorry, EA.

I hat eto break it to every that says ESPN rules, but Madden already has higher review scores in many many places. ESPN appeals to everyone here cuz it's CHEAPASSgamer, for the other millions of gamers, especially casual gamers as mentioned above, Madden will probably win out.

Thats been the impression that I get as well. Although I hear Madden is only very slightly better. Still even with that being said, I'd rather spend 19.99 on a game that's only a tiny bit below Madden. I don't even like playing sports games and I'm heavily considering getting nfl 2k5, just because of the price.

I've been following GameRankings.com and thus far Madden only has a higher review score from EGM...

On a super-d-duper side note that nobody cares about, I just leveled up! Post 100. Hurray for me.

EA hasn't made a good football game since Mutant League, and probably never will again.

Am I the only one who's being tempted by the Madden Collector's Edition? I'm not big on these next gen sports games, but I love the idea of playing old school Madden on a console I currently have (as opposed to my older consoles, which became hand-me-downs to the extended family over time, or an emu).

if that's true how come Madden's overall ranking is 95.5% and Espn's is 91.4%?

EDIT: I'm talking about the X-Box version

Because NFL2k5 has way more reviews completed. Madden's score may go down, too.

The Xbox version has about 8 more than madden, but the PS2 version only has 2 more. Either way, I'll have the chance to play both extensively so I'll just have to judge for myself which is really better.

But I thought only 1 review was higher for Madden?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to buy Madden since the difference in scores appears to be slight, I'd much rather save the 30$. My only point is that your post was incorrect.

i work for a gamestop and we cannot keep this game in stock.and i personally own it and i feel this game is incredible and for 20 bucks its great.i personally am not a fan of ea sports even though i must give credit were it is due with the madden being a good game i just feel its overrated as so is all the other stuff from ea.the only ea game i truly love is battlefield vietnam.i hope this really hurts maddens sales which i truly doubt because of what me and the guys at the store call cgs (casual gamers).its because of those guys madden does so well even though they never played it or are getting it cause thats the thing to do. me personally i am telling everyone so far to get espn even if madden is better for 20 bucks its a great deal.

madden cost over 2x as much as 2k5. And there is no way that it's 2x better, so even madden fanboys should say that pound for pound 2k5 is the better game.

Madden's advtange for us addicts is the ability to make a character in NCAA, train him up, then draft him into a pro-league in madden. Gives you a sense of ownership. =)

That being said, I already bought 2K5 with GGC... but I may pick up MAdden for the hell of it when it comes out at Fry's.

NCAA's lil spirit meter makes the game interesting (and a little dizzying), but it's cool. Really screws w/ you friends, especially they're some poor sap who keeps thinking that UCLA has a chance against USC... *cough* =)

Eh, I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. At the time of my post (in regard to the XBox version), only one review site/mag that already reviewed BOTH games gave Madden a higher score. If I recall, there were two others that rated both equally. What I was saying was that many big sites like IGN and GameSpot hadn't yet reviewed Madden, so you couldn't say that Madden was the better game based on review scores, since there was plenty of time for Madden's score to drop.

Have to wait for more sites to review both games, comparing ratings from one site to another is comparing apples to oranges.

I believe the price point should be a factor, i.e. even if this game is better, is it better enough to justify $30 more?

And pay attention to which sites have ads for ESPN and which have ads for Madden or EA.

Did you get the PS2 or Xbox version? If you got the PS2 one, you should join the CAG league we have going. We need seven more players before we can start the league, so the more the merrier.

ESPN is very good, but I prefer Madden overall. I guess it's just that I'm more accustommed to the play in Madden. I bought both (I'm more football fan than cheapass) and while their isn't a lot of difference, Madden is a little better.

So I say if you're just getting a football game go with ESPN, if you're a hardcore football fan, go with Madden. That's just me tho.

I agree. If you're a football fan, you have to have Madden. It's the only game I pay full price for. Franchise mode is so addictive that my roommate and I finish seasons in 1-2 weeks. Also, the AI in Madden gets better every year.

I was tempted to get espn, but I also know that I spend more time playing Madden than all of my other games combined. So ESPN is the better value, but Madden is the better game.
