are those in game screenshots (from the mag) cause it looks just like it was ripped straight from the cartoon.

It's the actual game graphics, from what I believe. The graphics should resemble the cartoon, but in 3D.

So is this a port of the 360 game (or maybe just a similar approach?) or is it something new entirely?

its really kinda curious with this game since it is a japanese company to not have the game set where the anime and manga in japan is now, instead its where the american version is. Not sure how the japanese will take it.

Doesn't the above video imply that they haven't really begun working on the game? So the things we're seeing (including the graphics) are just concepts for now and not even close to the final product?

They say PS3 project, but development is kind of far along I believe. I believe they still call it "project" because they aren't sure yet of its final name, but it's definitely Naruto on PS3.

thats what I'm waiting on! Promblem with DB(Z) is what can they do to make a game that doesn't feel like a straight rehast of what's already been done for the dragonball Z series of games.

Over at the official Naruto fan community, Hokage's Room, Namco Bandai is asking fans of the anime to help them name the new Naruto game for the PS3. The upcoming title is the next in the Ultimate Ninja fighting series and should be coming out later this year.

If you're a Naruto fan, this is an excellent way to get involved with your favorite anime -- especially if you're hyped up for the game. Even if you're not a fan, it might be fun to just drop your suggestion; afterall, how many chances do you have to name a game? It might even lead to a career in game-naming. Perhaps. Check out all the details here.
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/27/help-name-the-next-naruto-game/

There was just a naming contest going on for this game, unfortunately it appears I missed it and forgot to tell you all about it (sorry, had a busy week). Let's see what the name will be, but it should definitely be coming stateside (probably next year I think).

Normally, I dismiss licensed anime games off hand, but after playing the Bleach DS game, this could turn out really well. Especially since some publishers are realizing that a good game and a good license does even better.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm First Look
Namco Bandai gets its sexy jutsu on in this upcoming PS3-exclusive Naruto title.
By Ricardo Torres, GameSpot
Posted Apr 16, 2008 5:46 pm PT
Reps from developer Cyber Connect 2 and Namco Bandai gave us a first look at the recently announced Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm at Namco Bandai's recent press event. Veteran developer Cyber Connect 2 is working on the original game, which will feature more than a dozen playable characters and offer players the chance to duke it out with a host of familiar characters, as well as explore Hidden Leaf Village, Naruto's 'hood. While we weren't able to play the game, we got a brief demo of the title from Cyber Connect 2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama.

Our demo consisted of a quick look at one-on-one fighting in a few locations and an epic fight against one of the game's bosses, Gaara of the Desert. The first demo focused on Naruto facing off against an opponent in an open grassy field. Matsuyama walked us through the game's control scheme, which looks simple but flexible. You'll use circle to attack, X to jump, and square to throw shuriken. Double tapping X will let you execute a stylish double jump that you can direct with the left analog stick. However, the key element of the control setup is the triangle button, which is your chakra and serves as a modifier to the basic moves you can perform. For example, Matsuyama tapped the button before throwing shuriken, which powered up the lone projectile to a volley for a cost on the meter. Holding the chakra button down will also let you charge up your chakra meter, while double tapping it will let you perform a powerful attack. Besides Naruto's own abilities, you'll be able to tap those of his buddies Sasuke and Sakura, by hitting L1 and R1 respectively, who'll jump out to perform an attack on your foe. Once summoned, you'll have to wait a bit of time before calling them out again, so you'll have to be smart about when you use them. The final bit of the control scheme is the item selection, which you'll use with the D pad. The system seems to pretty elegant and balances the ability to do flashy moves with an accessible control scheme.

The second part of the demo focused on Naruto fighting Gaara, who was putting the power of Shukaku (a giant demon sealed inside him) to good use. The start of the fight makes you think the battle is going to take a good long time as you see normal-sized Naruto facing off against the goliath and not doing much damage. However, the pace quickens as Naruto finds a weak spot on the boss, which allows him to do considerably more damage. Once the boss suffers a set amount of damage, a new sequence kicks up, a God-of-War-style button inputting game, which has Naruto hopping around on the thrashing creature. After a few sequences, Naruto is kicked back and calls out Gamabunta, shifting the whole scale of the fight to a much broader scope, which was really cool.

The visuals in the work-in-progress game already look pretty stunning. Naruto and company look great on the PlayStation 3. While it's not a tremendous accomplishment to capture the look of the anime on the PS3, due to its hardware muscle, we have to say we were mightily impressed by how the game moved. The camera movement and overall performance were already smooth, which was impressive.

Based on what we saw, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is going to be one to watch for this fall. The game is gorgeous and nails the atmosphere of the anime. The fighting, especially the boss fight, looks like it's going to be fun, and we're pleased to see the control is being kept simple for it. We're anxious to see how that system comes together and how the whole town-exploration segments are going to work. The game gives a good first impression, and we're hoping it delivers. Expect us to follow this one closely as its launch approaches. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is slated to ship this fall exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Here are seven gameplay vids from Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, the upcoming PS3-exclusive, anime-ramen-ninja title. The visuals in this game, as we've said for the longest time now, look spectacular and we can't wait to try it out. In fact, it won't be too long before we can -- remember, there's an exclusive demo included with this month's issue of Qore. So, any opinions on the games, or has anyone heard opinions from the media?

Normally I dismiss licensed games, but the Bleach DS game was pretty good, and I heard that the DBZ games were excellent despite being not my style of setting. Naruto I can handle and would be interested in buying if the actual fighting gameplay is good.

I wonder how this became a PS3 exclusive though. It seems Sony is being a lot more picky (and a lot more sparse) with what they shell out money for to make exclusive. They nabbed MGS4 and Final Fantasy 13 + Versus. Those are some big names, and Naruto is also a pretty big name.

FriskyTanuki

It's exclusive because Namco Bandai has the Naruto license for Sony systems, so Sony isn't really a part of it.

It'll be out during E3 week if you don't want Qore.Yeah, exactly. It's like how OXM got Eternal Sonata and Rainbow Six Vegas first.

Anyway, it's kind of funny because I think it was very smart to put the demo in Qore, because many gamers are impatient (not all), and will do almost anything to get their hands on a certain game/demo early (as long as it isn't expensive). I guarantee Qore's sales will be pretty good for this. Well, I'm not really that way, but I'm considering because I want to play it.

I think it's a good idea for Sony to include an early beta into Qore... simply from a business standpoint. It'll help expand and circulate the Qore user base.

The game is based off the Narutimate Ninja series which started on the PS2. I played those games a LOT. I'm wondering how the gameplay will transition into the PS3 version. I'm hoping there are still two playing fields, but based on the videos I haven't seen anything like it.

Oh well.

I really liked the demo you get to play as Naruto with Sakura and Sasuke as your support characters or you can play as Kakashi with Guy as your support character.

I thought the controls were fairly simple, granted I don't like having to push a button to block (I'm old school that way) but I felt it played like the other Naruto games on the PS2, but it just flowed a lot better for me. Not to mention I was actually able to hold my own against my niece for once ^^

The full game is going to offer a few more modes and seemingly a great deal of fun according to the Qore videos so I'm excited for it.

Keep in mind that I'm going to pick this up day one regardless, so I'm a bit bias when it comes to this game.

If you are unsure well July 17th the demo comes out for everyone (if I'm not mistaken) and check it out and have fun.

Very impressed so far, they nailed the 3D fighting. The cel shading is of course beautiful, and the specials as well. Although combat is fairly simple, there's enough "extras" to make it deep. The items, partners, chakra, in combination with directioning the joystick while you mash O makes it work well. This was very impressive, and yet disappointing to know that it wont have online at the same time.

Wait, what's this about online play? Will they have online play or no?

And more impressions for a person who hasn't played any of the previous games and hasn't seen any Naruto anime (yet).

I'm looking for a fun fighter, it doesn't need to be complex and tournament play worthy. But it does need to have a solid foundation for fighting while still entertaining the kids that we sometimes have over.

I'm certainly not gushing after playing the demo. Maybe it just takes some time, but I didn't care much for the combat. Seemed a lot like those DBZ fighters (with weapons), and I haven't been able to get into those.

Namco Bandai's upcoming Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is such a surprising treat. The PS3 exclusive has earned a lot of attention due to its fantastic graphics, but Ninja Storm features far more than just a pretty face. We had a chance to play a more expansive build at Namco Bandai's E3 booth, where we took a sneak peak at the game's elusive single player mode and got some hands-on time with the multiplayer.

Naruto's adventure begins just like it does in the manga. A cool treat for fans will be the inclusion of both Japanese and English audio for the story. From the looks of things, all the dialogue in the game may be spoken. While the lip-syncing was very off, we're hoping it can be fixed before Naruto's upcoming holiday release. The adventure will have Naruto exploring the Hidden Leaf village, much like in the Xbox 360 Naruto game. He'll have to talk to various villagers to progress the story, unlock missions and goals. Surprisingly, the first PS3 Naruto game covers a lot of territory: we were told that the game's story will go all the way up to the Sasuke Retrieval arc.

The build we got to play with had other characters, such as Sasuke and Gaara. However, we weren't allowed to take a glimpse at the entire roster. Undoubtedly, all the series favorites will be available. We played against a Namco PR representative in a battle: we played as Sasuke, he played as Naruto. Just like in the public demo, the graphics look rather lush. The stylized explosions in particular look rather nice. Our build had some unfortunate aliasing problems, which is blamed by this build's early state (the public demo looks much more polished). The delay after being knocked back is still a bit too significant -- hopefully, the Naruto team will be able to change that before the game's release.

One new thing we were able to do in this E3 build was enter Sasuke's second state. After charging enough chakra, we were able to transform into a much deadlier Sasuke -- we were shooting fireballs, and moved with lightning-fast speed. It wasn't long before the PR rep fell, defeated.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm is a lot of fun, and with its beautiful graphics and extensive single player story, we're sure it'll appeal to both Naruto fans and non-fans alike. With just a few tweaks, we can see it becoming a great (offline) multiplayer addition to any PS3 collection.
Hmm, I barely know what type of game this is, but regardless, I'll buy.

At first, the only problem I had with the game concerning controls was executing special moves (chakra kunai/dash/special). I d/l the demo yesterday and was actually underwhelmed by the graphics. Maybe it's just me, but I guess I was expecting 3d realism from (originally) a 2d platform. Oh well.

As for the fighting, I think it's pretty easy to learn and get used to. I just wish that there were different ultimate jutsus to choose from. For example, what if I don't want to do Raikiri when I'm Kakashi? I also wish there were different jutsus besides kage bunshin for naruto.

I've been watching Naruto online. Man that show has a lot of filler and draws things out way too much.

But, I still like the characters. Speaking of which, how many characters will be in this game?

The basic fighting is simplistic, just hit O, but I think there's variations in attacks depending on which direction you press along with distance. It's a bit like powerstone. A lot of the fun is dodging, using the environment and other skills/items.

Is there a full character list posted somewhere? I assume the game goes up to the end of Naruto Part 1(based on Naruto's moves), manga-wise and skips all the anime filler.

Not being much a fan of Naruto – or fighting games, for that matter – Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm was pretty far down on the list of potential GC excitements. Now we've seen an extended portion of the game in action though, we're well and truly on the other side of the fence.

You see, while we've already delved deep into Ninja Storm's basic fighting mechanics, it turns out it's not the simple fighter we were all expecting. Developer CyberConnect2 has apparently run with the basic battling conceit and turned it into a game with a surprisingly broad appeal. Sure, there's plenty to enjoy from a fan perspective and Ninja Storm features 25 playable characters from the Naruto universe, alongside a currently undisclosed number of assist fighters who'll join you in battle for some much needed respite against an enemy at the touch of a button.

However, it's the story mode mission structure CyberConnect2 has put in place that really has us intrigued by Ninja Storm. You see, the game features a large open world – dubbed the Hidden Village – which acts as a central hub between battles. Here, you can chat to townsfolk to unlock new objectives or simply explore in a bid to collect handy items for use in battle or bump up your abilities. What's particularly striking though is the amount of effort CyberConnect2 has put into this side of the game, with it practically being a platformer in its own right.

Outside of arena battles, Naruto has a massive array of moves to help him traverse and interact in the Hidden Village. Alongside your shuriken – which can be used to target objects in the game world, either individually or en masse with a hail of shuriken at once – Naruto can wall jump between buildings to access roof tops, swing from clothes lines high above the street and carry objects, which proves useful in solving the handful of simple switch based puzzles we saw around town. There's even a Naruto Cannon mechanic that enables our hero to propel himself through the air toward distant locations. As you level up through continued play, the cannon's reach increases, offering access to previously unreachable areas of the game world.

If that wasn't enough, it's even possible to collect ingredients around town to drop off at the ramen store. Here, the local chef will whip up a dish that grants Naruto with even more spectacular moves to use during battle. We suspect there's even more to see too, which goes some considerable way to alleviating early fears that the accessible combat set-up would prove too shallow to offer a lasting game experience.

In terms of mission structure too, Ninja Storm looks intriguing. As you progress through story mode you'll gradually unlock multi-episode mission arcs. These are based on the first five story arcs from the original anime and include the 'Genin Training Arc', 'Chunin Exam Arc' and 'Chasing Sasuke Arc', from what we had time to scrawl down during publisher Atari's demonstration of the game. Each arc consists of multiple missions, all ranked at different difficulty levels, to maintain the challenge throughout the game. From what we could tell, winning criteria range from fighting specific characters to defeating opponents using a certain number of lives. There's seems to be a little more variety than that though, with CyberConnect2 demonstrating a particularly spectacular boss battle to close the presentation.

Throughout story mode, you'll come across some superbly animated and directed cut-scenes, all created in-game using Ninja Storm's stunning cell-shaded graphics engine. In this instance, Naruto encounters Gaara in the forest – a meeting which ends with the summoning of Syukaka, a preposterously over-sized enemy. Towering above you, Syukaka alternates between ground-pounding and air bullet attacks. In a sequence weirdly reminiscent of Shadow of Colossus, thanks largely to the encounters grand scale, it's up to you to fell the beast using your standard fighting move set, either slowly grinding down its health meter by targeting anything remotely limb-like or knocking off big chunks of HP by working your way up toward Syukaka's head and pounding the life out of Gaara as he perches above. It's thrilling to watch and looks genuinely spectacular.

However, that's nothing compared to CyberConnect2's next trick. Clearly keen to incorporate some of Naruto's more kaleidoscopic set-pieces into Ninja Storm, certain sequences of the game feature God of War-like quick-time events. In this case, once Syukaka's health has been depleted by half, you're tasked with following the onscreen buttons prompts in order to clamber up your opponent and unleash a mass of expertly orchestrated, exhilarating pyrotechnics. It's certainly not what we were expecting and far removed from the generic fighter we were anticipating before the demonstration.

Elsewhere, CyberConnect2 dropped a few more hints about the game, showing off Ultimate Storm's Awaken mode. During battle, all playable characters undergo radical transformations if they meet certain specific criteria. Succeed and you'll gain entirely new animations and move sets, alongside a devastating finishing blow. For the demonstration, we witnessed Kimimaro wrench razor sharp rock spikes from the earth before growing tendrils and skewering Naruto below. Effectively, Awaken mode doubles the number of playable characters at your disposal and adds an extra layer of depth to proceedings.

Rounding off our demo, CyberConnect2 noted that Ultimate Storm features both original Japanese voice acting and the US dub, meaning fans of the series can enjoy the game whichever way they choose. Finally, although far from being actual confirmation of the fact, a question concerning downloadable characters and features in the future elicited nervous laughter and an intriguing "Wait and see". Frankly, despite our preconceptions, we came away from Ninja Storm impressed and eager to see more. Luckily though, the game's scheduled for release this November in Europe, even before Japanese punters get there mitts on it – that wait shouldn't be so unbearable, after all.

That was a lengthy preview IGN had, talks about story mode a little. I'm quite excited for this. :D

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/28/naruto-ultimate-ninja-storm-hits-next-week-only-on-ps3/
Hello, PlayStation.Blog readers, I’m Hiroshi Matsuyama from CyberConnect2, the developer of NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM. I’m very excited to have this opportunity to speak with you all about the game. Since this is my first post, I’ll cover the basics today.

I’m sure some of you that have seen our trailers for the game have thought “I bet this is just a pre-rendered movie” – but it’s not! Everything from all of our trailers is 100% real-time footage from the game running on PLAYSTATION 3 hardware that you will all be able to experience when the game is released next week.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm features two main game modes for players to enjoy – “Free Battle Mode” and “Ultimate Mission Mode.” In Free Battle Mode, you can play as one of 25 characters from the animated series. The battles aren’t strictly one-on-one either - you can bring two support characters into every battle, who will help you out in short bursts. This is the same three person team structure as the TV series, but now you can create your own teams with all sorts of original combinations. We’ve put a lot of effort into our battles to make sure they match the look and feel of the animated series. You can perform all sorts of amazing moves with your favorite characters and even fight on walls and run over bodies of water.

Ultimate Mission Mode lets you take on 101 missions across Naruto’s Hidden Leaf Village, which acts as a hub for the game. Here, you can acquire new Jutsu moves, purchase items, and even chow down on a bowl of noodles at the Ichiraku Ramen shop! The game’s storyline covers episodes 1-135 of the Naruto animated series, so it’s incredibly comprehensive. In addition to the head-to-head battles, you’ll encounter huge boss battles, races through the forest and tree-climbing battles in this mode.

At the strong request of our fans in North America, the game offers full voicing in both English and Japanese with all the original actors from the animated series. We’re also going to be releasing downloadable content for the game well into next year. It will mostly focus on new support characters and missions and best of all, it will all be FREE!

These are just the basics of the game, but if you want to check it out for yourself, we have a playable demo that you can download from PSN right now. In my next post, I’m going to give you an exclusive look at how we made the game, so check back here soon!

Awesome news and I'm really excited. :D

Pre-Order Bonuses for Ultimate Ninja Storm!

Gamers that pre-order the game at GameStop or EB Games stores or www.gamestop.com will receive a download card giving them access to The First Hokage support character and a new single-player mission, while those that pre-order at GameCrazy stores will receive download access to The Second Hokage support character and a different single-player mission. For anyone that ordered it in-store with GS, did they give you a card for Storm Pack 1, or was it stuck in/on the game case?

I haven't opened mine yet, and I wanted to know if anyone received their SP1 code in-pack or separately.

Oh, that GT review was amusing (Ko-NO-ha, Sa-SU-ke, and Na-RU-to = I think he had the volume off while he was playing...), but I'm surprised they didn't mention the blind cannon launches when your back is up against a wall. But come on, it should've gotten a better score than that!

Storm Packs 1 and 2 are available at Gamestop and GameCrazy, respectively. They aren't included inside the game case. And here's a tip: DON'T BUY THEM ON EBAY. I mean, why buy them when you can get them for free? 8-)

Here's how I got my Storm Pack 2 code (finally!): Call up a bunch of GameCrazy stores and ask them if they can tell you the code over the phone. Took me 5 minutes on my third try. Whoo! The guy seemed a little pissed, but hey, I got a code. :bouncy: So if you don't have Storm Pack 1 either, call up a Gamestop or 3. Good luck!

Yeah, you have to get them separately. It seemed like they didn't really know about them...I picked the game up the day after release and they hadn't even opened the card pack yet.

Naruto on each console is a different publisher. D3/Tomy on Nintendo, Ubi Soft on Xbox, and Namco Bandai with PlayStation. Bleach is the same way too (Sega does Nintendo while Sony does PlayStation).

I was thinking about calling up a few Gamecrazys myself looking for an extra storm pack code. lol thanks for the advice I am sooo doing this tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah, you have to get them separately. It seemed like they didn't really know about them...I picked the game up the day after release and they hadn't even opened the card pack yet.My GS didn't have a clue about them, and they didn't have any of them handy when I picked it up Thursday night before getting GeOW2 on Friday.

They seemed to think it was in-pack, though I wouldn't expect it to be in-pack, in case some of their initial shipment were sitting on the shelf for a while.

Guess I'm calling them tomorrow or Monday to see if they arrived yet.

Also, I'm betting the codes are unique, like the other pre-order bonus items for the PS3. Feh.

Here's how I got my Storm Pack 2 code (finally!): Call up a bunch of GameCrazy stores and ask them if they can tell you the code over the phone. Took me 5 minutes on my third try. Whoo! I'd be surprised if they just offered it up over the phone without getting some concrete info about you having the pre-order at the respective store.

lolwut?

This looks good. I think I'll pick it up when it's $30 or below.

And for those not liking the review, from what I've seen/heard, it's like the Dynasty Warriors series. Those who love it aren't going to mind the same game with minor updates, and those that don't are gonna score it low and complain about the similar gameplay.

It's DLC you get from either GameCrazy or GameStop. Don't worry about it. They'll release it for us later (no use in not doing so).

I've only been able to play a bit of this, but after my friend and I get tired of Gears, I can imagine we're gonna be doing some heavy playing of this. Ahhh, I am so psyched to use Hinata. I never knew I was a Narutard until this game. ;_;

I think both Packs 1 & 2 will be available for general release around 11/4/09. The Pack 2 card says it entitles one time use on the download prior to general release. So, 11/4/09 is the magic date on the card.

in the 2 packs do you get fully playable characters or just support characters?this is a cool game as far as a competent anime based fighter goes but they dragged ass all over the wolrd of konoha stuff.

reminds me of the village in twilight princess. plenty of people to see but very little worthwhile interaction.at the very least they could have allowed you to go into buildings and see all of konoha including the uchia and hyuga areas. if theyd cut out the story portion added more characters and moves and added online play the game would have been a hit. its still gonna be a hit as is but you cant help but think it can be alot better.

Pretty much what I expected. (Referring to that review.)

RoaN was a mindless playthrough. Storm looks to be the same kind of deal, with a nicer coat of paint. I'm probably going to wait until it hits $30 before I pick it up.

yeah buy it cheap because the only reason you will play the mission mode is to unlock the other characters which many have cool finishing moves and as a fighter its damn good but thats all it should have been. it reminds me of a 3d version of those bleach games on ds. i was dissappointed by the lack of voice acting too when talking to characters in the konoha world.

Played through 40 rounds with a friend last night. We only stopped because I had homework due in the morning.

True, I wouldn't recommend it as a purchase for someone who's not into Naruto, but if you are, and you have a friend, this is a great pick.

Does anyone here experience a grating sound sometimes when you win a fight? It's not all the time, but when you get to the screen showing you as the victor, the screen shakes, and you get this loud sound. Sounds like a rapid-fire explosion? And it's pretty loud that I had to either mute or quickly turn down the volume. Hard to explain, really.

I'm hoping it's just a glitch as opposed to a defective disk? Other than that, the disk plays fine. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

cool so after anko and the sound 4, do you think they will release the 2 hokage packs as well. cause it does feel like my game is missing something by not having the second hokage available for support.

just gotta finish like 4 more missions and I will have the game at 100 percent. the stupid hide and seek missions and the last naruto jumping mission from jiraiya. I will start pluggin away again because I do want that 100 percent so I can move back onto uncharted for the trophies.

Is this game worth waiting until it drops to $30 or $20?

The demo is pretty nice, but the game doesn't seem to be worth $40 from what I played so far.

I'm the kind of person who bit on DBZ Burst Limit for $20. Basically, does Ninja Storm play in a similar vain (as a simplified fighter)?

DarkSageRK

the missions are very repetitive not just that theyre boring but you will end up having to do many of he same missions more than once hell honestly more than 3 or 4 times in some cases. the boss battles are cool but again they are all kind of the same only different. like coolsteel mentioned no online play.

just for the fighting game its a good 20 to 30 dollar game imo. after i played it i wondered why they didnt just cut out the story mode and focus more on the fighting game and adding more characters. the collection aspect of the game can be a drag too. id say rent it or borrow it first before buying it ful price.
