So I went out to go get the Taking Back Sunday album today, it wasn't at Best Buy so I went over to Target. Sure enough, it was there. So as I am at the corner to turn out of Target onto a major street, there is this big group of cars, when it looks like they all have passed, I start to go(there was a car beside me so I couldnt really see) and then I see this car going hella fast in my lane that I am halfway out into. So I pretty much panic and turn out into the lane anyway. Well the guy has to slam on his breaks. I turn another corner and the dude starts following me, so just continue on and he turns somewhere and goes back the other way. I now presume he was getting my license plate. Can he do anything with it, or did I just make a mistake? Can I get in trouble for this(With the police, a fine)

I'm 17 so I was not really sure if anything could happen about this or was it just my mistake and the guy should just drop it? Thanks, I'm feeling nervous because of it! :?

I am not familiar with the traffic law in Nebraska, however I would assume if he was trying to get information about your car - description, color, plate (as you suggested) for purposes of filing a police report and claiming you left the scene of an accident.

Leaving an accident is a crime in every state I can think of. Of course he would have to show damage to his car and it would have to match damage to your car. But who wants to go down that road.

No he can't do anything with it (legally). Trust me, if I reported something like this everytime I saw it/happened to me when I'm driving, well lets just say I wouldv'e filed a lot of reports ;). Really you don't have anything to worry about.

Chill man. He was probably just pissed that you pulled out in front of him and he tailgated you for a while. There's no way you can get in any trouble with the cops so don't sweat it.

By reading your story you didn't do any damage to his car so you should be fine.

Without a cop seeing it, and without any harm being done [ie, you didnt get in a wreck] the most that can legally happen is *possibly* getting a warning somehow. I don't even envision that happening. Sgt. Pepper won't be coming to your house with an arrest warrant or anything.
Here in Wake County, NC, we have a thing where we can submit the license plate numbers of litterers to the Swat-a-Litterbug program, but all they do is send the registered owner of the car a postcard saying 'Don't litter.'

So long as the guy isn't very well connected or a psycho there isn't really much he can do.

Let it be a lesson. When driving you should regard all other drivers as untrustworthy lunatics. Never assume any of them are going to do anything correctly. Also, don't let people behind your car goad you into making a turn when you cannot see what is coming. They aren't the ones who pay the price if you get hit by oncoming traffic you couldn't see until after you'd comitted to pulling out.

Probably not, unless there's some wierd laws in your municipality/county. You didn't cause an accident, and it sounds (at least by your account) that the driver was very aggressively driving. Could have just been a bit of road rage.

Unless you actually caused an accident, nothing will happen.
Cutting someone off, intentional or not, is not grounds for a ticket unless an officer sees you do it and pulls you over IMMEDIATLY afterwards. Things like this, cutting people off, speeding, running a red light/stop sign
are all things that unless you get caught red handed, you'll be fine. I'm not advising that people actually do any of that, but if you do and don't get caught, your in the clear.

Don't sweat it as long as there was no accident you are fine. If he has ties with the DMV he might get your address and come to your home and beat your ass down, but I think that's a long shot. Please drive carefully.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had someone do the same thing to me once, and nothing ever happened.

You're fine. No accident or damage occured so it's not likely you'll be getting in trouble or anything.

eh, probably nothing will happen. Unless you caused damage there's nothing that can be pinned to you. The guy might try BSing and try to get you in trouble, but that's alot of effort on his part, so i doubt anything will happen.

This is a *very* good point. The thinking now is for people to be first, fastest, whatever. If someone's going to cut you off or whatever, go ahead and yield--it's not worth getting in a wreck over. All the anti-gun people don't seem to mind that most of the population, including psychos or selfish or thoughtless or aggressive or suicidal, has access to a 2-ton killing machine and uses it probably every day.
Even when other drives are being nice, don't believe them. There was a case where a driver, who was close to the curb, stopped to let a couple pedestrians across, including waving them over. Unfortunately, some jackass inthesecond lane didn't see them, blew right by, ran into these two kids. I think at least one was killed. Now both that driver *and the guy who waved them across* are being sued by the family.
When I interned with the police department, the cops there would *never* go when someone waved them out, especially when that other driver gave up their driving right [ie, yielding when they didn't have to] to let the cop out. It was a courtesy, but 99% of theother drivers don't extend that same courtesy--know for *yourself* the way is clear, and don't think 'Oh, I can beat that yellow light/oncoming car/train/etc.' It's not worth the risk.

the real thing you should be worried about is that you are admitting to buying the new taking back sunday album.

anyways, as long as your cars didn't make contact you don't have anything to worry about.

They are a growing band in the 'emo/hardcore' scene. INHO ..good stuff!

Exactly. I was leaving a very busy intersection wanting to turn left across 3 lanes of traffic. The oncoming lane to the right stopped to turn in where I was at while the two oncoming lanes on my left stopped because of a red light. The left lanes gave me space to pull through. I looked left, then right, then left again. Everyone was waving me on so I slowly pulled out. Didn't see any more oncoming traffic started to pull out and then "Oh Shit".

A truck coming from the left came out and around traffic to speed up to catch the now turning yellow arrow turn light. He decided he didn't want to go straight with traffic but wanted to turn at the intersection. We hit almost head on. Even with the statements given by the people who waved me on, the police still could have given me a ticket. "Failure to yield right of way"

Even though I was trying to be cautious and he was going seventy in a thirty, It was still my fault.

Don't sweat the guy getting your info, he was just trying to scare you. He saw you were younger and thought he could get his jollies by following you, hoping you might do something stupid...

Thanks guys! You've really eased my fears! And no, we didn't hit.

I'm loving the album so far. But I think I like the first few songs MUCH better than the last few songs. They are much catchier and.....i dont know, I just like them alot more!

lmao you shoulda slammed on your brakes and made him hit you from behind as he was following you... then it woulda automatically been his fault... lmfao..

i only read the first post, so if this doesnt make sense now, oh well...

if there is no damage to his car, no witnesses and no cameras...its your word versus his...lie your ass off...afterall, someone can obtain anyones license plate and make-up any story and call the cops without nothing ever happening....cops have better stuff to do then do a fullout investigation on something that isn't already mostly solved for them....there are easier crimes to solve and donuts to eat...
