I have to go with RE since I love taking out zombies with a shotgun by pointing it to their heads and RE 4 looks damn awsome.

You should have had Dino Crisis on the list too. I loved that series, but voted for Resident Evil in its absence.

Resident evil here. Silent hill freaked me out just a little too much.

Silent Hill - the first one still has to be the scariest game ever.

You should also add Splatter House series and parasite Eve series (was kinda survival horror).

I voted Silent Hill. I've only played the top two franchises, and I voted for Silent Hill 'cause it scared me more.

I wouldn't consider Fatal Frame survival horror.. but i voted for it since it makes those other game look like barneys play house in scare factor.

Silent Hill is the scariest game by far. I play it on easy and never get the full story because I'm too freaked out and I keep trying to exit the room/building/underground lair that I'm trapped in.

Dude you think Fatal Frame is scary - try Silent Hill. A haunted mansion isn't half as scary as a full-on trip to hell and back.

My favorite is Resident Evil as a series. I played Resident Evil Outbreak on PS2 for about 20 minutes and I don't like it (very slow load time and not very fun). The first Fatal Frame is really good and scary, but the second one is just ok. I never really get into Silent Hill series, I finished SH3 and SH2 only half way through but didn't really like it that much.

I voted for Silent Hill but the scariest game I have ever played is "Undying" the Clive Barker Game for the PC.

Technically, thats not survival horror. Its first person shooter horror.

re 1+2 were THE best. but it lost its magic, i mean 3 and cv were good but they didnt feel the same.

silent hill 1 i couldnt get into. 2 was AMAZING, i really want to play 3 and 4

fatal frames are awesome conceptully but kinda hard to play.

alone in the dark is where it all started, and 4 wasnt too bad.

clock towers were always fun, but you really need a mouse for the first 2 games

I give credit for Alone in the Dark for being the innovator of the Survival Horror genre but it really is a hard game. Too hard to enjoy.

As far as horror goes, Resident Evil was good but Silent Hill is better. For the genre though, I have to go with Fatal Frame. The atmosphere and sound in that game is just plain awesome. Uber creepy scary fun. I have trouble playing it in the dark.

I would say either SH or FF in terms of scaryness. I mean RE does have it's moments but it doesn't really end up hugely creepy except for the first. I mean there people weren't expecting it now it's more like "Look for ammo to kill the zombies off blocking your path or find a way around them.". It's more action based and the background isn't USUALLY that scary.
I'm sure some people might argue that the common place setting may make it creepier because they inspire a complancy while others inspire uneasiness from the beginning but whatever.

I voted for Alone in the Dark. Mainly because it's the father of the genre, but I really enjoyed it more than any of the others. I can't deal with the giant spiders in RE (Not the series's fault, but still...), I never could wrap my head around the plot of Silent Hill (And frankly, confusing the heck out of me doesn't qualify as scary, just annoying). Fatal Frame was scary, but I just sucked at aiming the damn camera, so I got frustrated, and I never got around to playing Clock Tower. I know these aren't the best reasons to dislike a series, but hey, I can live with that.

I think, in the end, I enjoy watching horror, not experiencing it. And on that note, if anyone ever records a good playthrough of any of these games, I'd love to watch it. Maybe even Silent Hill might start to make sense.

I gotta say its a tie between the RE series and the Fatal Frame(s) for me.

I absolutely love everything about the RE series and they've all gotten their fair share of scares out of me, but the Fatal Frames are just so damn creepy.

Also worth mentioning is Siren. It has a really original concept of looking through your enemies (zombies n' such) eyes to figure out the safest way through an area. Quite fun, QUITE hard, and QUITE scary.

As for Clock Tower, I couldn't really get into the 1st one, never picked up the 2nd one, and I'll admit the 3rd one is pretty damn scary, but its mostly b/c of things jumping out at you, not atmosphere.

As for Silent Hill, I can't vouch for 1/3/or the upcoming 4, but I played through Silent Hill 2 for XBOX and I absolutely HATED IT. It was so boring, and not scary at all IMO (save for the triangle head dudes). I'm sorry, but I don't find running through a foggy town full of people with no limbs that try to vomit on me to be scary.

Oh and the only thing scary about the Dino Crisis games was the camerawork. OY. (well 2 was pretty fun actually.....).

One last thing, would the Tecmo's Deception series be counted as Survival Horror? B/c I have the original and it creeped the fuck out of me back in the day.

Three way tie for Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil. Although Resident Evil games don't scare me like they used to. Fatal Frame nearly made me piss myself several times. Honorable mention the the Super Nintendo Clocktower *never released in the U.S.*.

You BOUGHT that?! Can I take your picture?! ;-P

Seriously though I thought no one bought and wished no one did. I'm waiting for Sony to price drop it to clearance to out because no WAY am I paying $40 new for it. Sorry Sony I've become a CAG and think VERY few games are now worth paying $50 for with a few exceptions, Rez being one of them but that would be mainly to make sure a sequel got MADE.
