Agh, I'm conflicted. I wish I had a PSP so I could just play the Lion War again. I'm pissed you can't rotate the map. I hate the Advance story approach (we're in the game world!). But I love the gameplay, I love the idea of Tactics on my DS (touch screen! sleep mode!) and the sight of Vaan and Penelo just put my little fanboy heart a-flutter. Not as cool as Cloud in the original or Baltheir in the PSP game, but still cool. Damn you and your fanservice, Squeenix!

One dealbreaker for me would be if they don't utilize the top screen properly (for stats, unit types, hit percentages, etc) like Square tends to do with the DS. But the video shows what seems to be gameplay without much text on the screen, so hopefully that is not an issue.

Agreed on all accounts. Other games (FFT, FF12, Vagrant Story) have fairly deep, interesting stories to follow, and then FFTA makes everything so childish, it almost made me not want to play it.

And the trailer looks great, hopefully when it comes out I won't be too busy to play it.

FFXII.

The new trailer looks great. I'm playing (slowly) through FFTA and will get this close to launch if not Day 1.

Good to hear that I'm not the only one that hates this childish crap. Sqaure-Enix seems to be in love with this crap though.

I'll admit that the graphics look good though but I'm not going to pick this up. But The Lion War I cannot wait for. It looks fantastic.

I did a little searching, and came up with some good news. While this game still has the "another world" theme, this time the main character travels into the "real" Ivalice -- in the continuity of FFXII. So Vaan and Penelo are "really" themselves (unlike Cloud's appearance in Tactics). If you didn't play FFTA, that Ivalice was supposed to be basically a projection of the kids' imagination, so this is a serious improvement. Now let's have a surprise reveal that the map is rotatable -- I'm onboard! :-)

Oh, here's the link where they say this (as found on Wikipedia): http://www.tipstricks.com/features-FFW-Interview2.php

I get that the GBA probably wasn't up to the task of rotatable maps, but not having them in the DS is absurd, especially when the original was on a less powerful system (generally speaking) and had that as a feature.

And that sounds like good news to me regarding the storyline, at least it'll be a little more tolerable. It seems like slight overkill, though, since Vaan and Penelo will be central to FFXII-2 on the same fucking system. Why not some characters from the other three games that take place in the same world?

Not like it's a deal-breaker or anything, but a little variety would be nice.

Wouldn't it be badass to see Ashley Riot?

BTW, I just noticed this infuriating tidbit from that interview:

"First of all, the biggest feature of using the Nintendo DS is that this time we decided not to use the touch panel, but tried to make full use of the dual screens."

I'm glad they're using both screens but..... ARRGH!! They give with one hand...

The touch screen would have been difficult to use on an isometric view of the battlefield, especially since you can't rotate the view. See: Luminous Arc
