I have played severall games recently where u die soon as u hit the water. I know there have been game pet peeves topics before, but I wasnt peeved then. Maybe boiling water or freezing water or shark infested water, but other than that u would think people could float at least. I really wish game designers would not be so damn lazy, grrrh I am so angry, mmmmmh. Ohh well thats my rant feel free to list pet peeves or your annoyance with inability to swim.

There was a great article in one of the recent Gamepros that talked about trends in games they hate... you should check it. I forgot which issue though.

The gaming industry needs to make a decision about this and stick by it. Either gaming characters can or cannot swim, not both.
It would be great if they decided that all gaming characters cannot swim. Imagine getting ready to do the 100m Butterfly in the Athens 2004 game. The gun goes off, your swimmer dives in and can't swim! He bobs around while you pound on the buttons. Finally, he sinks to the bottom.

Whatever did happen to CAG Kombat (or whatever it was called again)?!I don't know if whoever said they might do it, ever got around to making it. It would have been cool.

swimming, eh who cares, im more worried about games actually being worth how much I pay for them, swimming comes after, and it doesnt really bother me that much that you cant swim in gta, think about it, will all those guns you would sink to your death too.

Good point, but I'm still happy that they're putting swimming in SA. :)

Who cares about swimming... my beef is with RPG's in which you can't kill anyone you want, and the ones where you can but they make you boot up an old save to keep playing. In my mind those types of games aren't real RPG's, just demos of an incomplete game.

That would be Issue #185, Feb 04. Yeah, game cliches like the main character is usually "The Chosen One" and stuff like that. Interesting article.
I think all games should let you swim, rather than falling into a pond and then drowning. It puts more realism in the game.

I like how in DRIV3R(Hey, I actually kind of liked this game) you could swim, but you would drown after like 2 minutes so you couldnt go too far but it gave you just enough time to get to shore or something like that!

God, does the new Driver game suck that bad? Or was the first one not as awesome as I remember it to be? Also, does the new one have the director mode?

I'm actually really really liking DRIV3R right now. The mission structure is a bit odd(You don't go around and get missions from people you just do the missions and then after you complete a mission, you do another one. So if you are in a frusterating mission it sucks because you can't go do a different mission. And there is no driving between missions, that is in a seperate mode altogether), the scenery is just kind of.......there to look pretty(And boy does the game look pretty) there isnt much incentive to go around the whole city because you cannot go into any buildings they are just there.
And yes, there is a director mode(I think its called the Thrill Camera) You can go to free drive and create all this mayhem, and then edit where you want the cameras and stuff like that. And on Xbox you can upload your movies on Xbox Live. Some of the movies on there are really, really cool!
I love, love, love the physics too. When you shoot a barrel, it falls down, when you shoot wood, it splinters and sometimes falls. And when you crash head on with another car going 90 mph, you see shit fly!! Tires, metal, glass, all go flying everywhere.
It also has all of the mini-games from the other games. Survival is a riot as usual(especially with all of the physics and stuff) and all of the other games are a lot of fun as well!
All in all, i am really liking it more than I thought I would. Sure its got its trouble spots, but it also has some really great spots too!

If we are talking about overused gimmicks, let's talk a franchise... ahem... MEGAMAN, anyone?! Lemme guess... if I beat Iceman, I can PROBABLY use his powers against Fireman... you'd think Wily would stop creating his robots with weaknesses for the other robots powers... and it's a good thing Megaman did the X series cause his affinity for 'men' was getting to be a bit much...
