Any other mac users having a problem with safari or firefox when viewing CAG?
For about two weeks now, CAG has been crashing safari...I'm positive its been some of the flash craptastic banner ads, such as the bionic women ones and now the steve-o ones (that other people are having a problem with ( http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153245 ). As soon as I would open more than one tabbed page of threads, safari would crash hard...restart safari, access more than one CAG thread page, boom, same thing happens again. I started to use firefox to read CAG and that seemed to work until today, when CAG started to crash it as well. I've been using Safari for quite a while now and have had almost no problems with it and I'm not having problems with any other site...just when I visit CAG.

Firefox works fine, but I can't say I've noticed either of those banner ads.

I've had two CAGs complain about this problem and I've submitted it to Google so they can take a look at it. However, I know Shipwreck is a Mac user and he hasn't had any problems.

I use a Mac, and it's only recently started crashing when I visit the CAG forums. Usually the 360 forum, if that makes a difference for those investigating. Oh, and that'd be in both Firefox and Safari.

I'm on here with Safari all the time and have never had so much as a hiccup.

Actually I thought it was just me, but yea its been happening maybe the past 3 - 4 days? I use Safari, but I assumed it was just me because I'm in the process of cleaning up my HD and reformatting everything.

Yes. Definitely a problem with certain Flash ads. Probably only a problem for people with Flash 9 installed, for whatever reason. I've had this happen at a couple other sites too, with the same ads I bet. I had to stop coming to the site but I finally blocked 'pagead1.googlesyndication.com' and 'pagead2.googlesyndication.com' in my HOSTS file so I could visit the site again. I hate to do that but it was that or not come back at all....I will be happy to unblock them when the issue is resolved.

YEAH! I have been having this problem too. I also think it's some of the ads as that is the only thing that really "changes" with each page at CAG.
Please keep us updated on any progress Cheapy, it's a real annoyance to have CAG crash all the time! Might have to try that googlesyndication blocking thing.

Use Camino, works great for me. Camino is a firefox based browser that works better than Firefox for Mac.

I have a Mac and for the past week or so, this site always crashes Safari. It never did that before in the last few years I've been coming here, so it's something that's been added recently.

I've had the same problem with safari crashing. It's also been crashing when on other websites too. I thought something was wrong with my Mac.

Not sure if any changes were made but CAG appears to be behaving properly on my Mac again. No crashes yet today. I did not make any changes to my Mac's configuration either.

Ironically, yes. It was fine for about a week there after I last posted to this thread, but today it has been acting up again. Crashed about 3 times just trying to access this thread to post a reply.

Does it seem like an ad is causing the problem, if so, which ad?

What browser are people using that crashes?
I never had a problem. I use Safari nightly builds. I try to avoid using Firefox. I hate that browser, but when I have used it, never crashed.

I had a problem CheapyD, but it seems fine. I sometimes get a stop message saying dismiss or cancel, i forget what it says. What i do is Force quit by command + alt(option) + escape. It happened 3 times to me about last month. But i use firefox and im ok.

The only problem Ive ever had was with advanced searches. It always says "you cant make a search with blah blah number of seconds" when its the first time Im searching. Other than that no problems.
edit- I use firefox btw.

Those ads that seem to be text-based seem to be okay, in particular there is one ad for the USA network that I think either uses Java or Flash- and every time I have had problems with Safari crashing, I think I see this ad.
As was hypothesized before, I think it may have something to do with flash or java-based ads, and that maybe one or a few of them are corrupted or something causing the crashing?

I had one crash tonight on the deals forum, didn't think anything of it though until I saw this thread just now though.
Using Safari by the way.

YES! It has gone away in the past week, but for about 2 weeks, this site crashed about every 2 minutes.

Cheapy, I noticed this as well. It stopped for about 3 days over the weekend, but it's doing it again now.
At first I thought it was my Mac, but then I found it was crashing CAG on both Firefox and Safari. On Firefox I'd get the spinning wheel (computer thinking) then a crash, and Safari would just crash the browser.
I will take a look when I get back to see if it's a specific ad, but I did notice it was happening somewhat "randomly" (sometimes i could get a few threads in and then it would crash, and sometimes on the main page of the forums), so it likely could be an ad.

Can you tell me the display URL that appears in the ads or maybe get a screen cap?
Thanks!

Cheapy, when it freezes, for me at least, it crashes the browser, and all the ad shows is a bright white rectangle. I couldn't click on it. If it happens again, I'll take a screen cap of it for ya.
Things were cool for a while but it is happening again...its not the google text ads, or the circuit city ads....I don't get the chance to see what the ad is because it crashes browser the millisecond the ad completes loading. It took three starts/crashes to get to load this thread to make this post. Everything was fine this morning and early afternoon but when I checked after 8PM EST.

See my first post in this thread. That solution works. It's definitely Google Flash ads.

Its happening again. 3 times for me just in the past half hour and once when I went to get to this thread.

Either the flash or the Java. I don't think it's the USA ads as they will load, but it's some other ad that crashes my Safari. Can't tell what the ad is or the URL because the second it crashes the browser. Starts as a white rectangle, goes to grey, then crashes (it all happens very fast).
Keep us updated on any headway you make with this Cheapy!

There is not really any such thing as Java ads. It's Flash ads from Google, confirmed, and the solution works.
