I think they should've added a bonus question that was an automatic +10% if once finished with the test you were going to post your score somewhere so other people (er, geeks) could compare geekiness.

I blame videogames, my BS in computer Science, and using the internet before 1996.

I'm a disgrace; I blame this on my lacking knowledge in such subjects as LOTR, Star Wars, Trek, and D & D (the only movie from any of those series that I watched was the first LOTR, which I literally fell asleep from), along with my hindering computer knowledge.

That test was stupid, because I know I'm geekier than that... :(

Actually, I answered some questions based on what I was doing typically a few years ago or the greater portion of my life. A couple years of life with kids and work and a wife (even if I did meet, date her on the net) have probably cooled my overall geekiness... Some of those points are latent geek now.

Binary. Hold out your hand like you're going to count on your fingers. Extended fingers are ones and curled fingers are zero. So, for example, ten (0 1010) would be ring and index fingers fingers extended. The highest you can count like this is 31 (1 1111), all fingers extended. Just don't point at anyone when you count to four (0 0100). Using both hands, you can count to 1023. Although why you would need to count to 1023 on your fingers is beyond me. :)

bmulligan
02-13-2011, 01:12 AM
Yeah, WOW! Lots of names from the past in the first 3 pages. Before CAG morphed into the giant Tokyo destroying monster it is today.

At 42.62%, I never really considered myself a geek. I guess learning to program and being into Star Trek at an early age doomed me to fledgling geekhood forever.

I do find it strange, though, to see any scores below 25% would be contributors to CAG, or even have a passing interest in videogames. Gaming must really be mainstream now.

Only 20%. Surprised. The test just seems to combine most all types of geeks, but the problem is no one will really be into everything. I'm more of a big computer/electronics/anime/video game geek, but really don't care for sci-fi novels, comic books, Star Trek/Star Wars, etc.

If having varied interests makes me a "poser" than a poser I am.

I do find it strange, though, to see any scores below 25% would be contributors to CAG, or even have a passing interest in videogames. Gaming must really be mainstream now.

I was thinking the same thing. There were only few questions that touched on non-vintage videogames. My score would have been higher if current games had been included more. If not for my serious comics binging in my youth my score would have been even lower.

Huh, guess video gaming isn't geeky. I scored a mere 8.3 percent, but mainly because I don't watch any movies (skipped a whole category or two, plus had no clue who those names were), hardly did anything that wasn't required at school, and go very few places besides work and home.
