It's just a store's leftover inventory. But most likely if you buy one now, you're stuck pay for the $180 bundle with Forza.

Some legendary untouched Kmart could still have some but I've looked long and hard *snicker* and have had no luck.

But yes, they're pretty easy to fix. Just open it up and start swapping parts. The power supply on mine got blown up thanks to a stupid roommate and an Iraqi wall outlet. After I ordered the new part and swapped it in, it worked like nothing had ever happened.

Have him google Xbox parts if he comes back it, it's a breeze to fix.

Swapping the drive is easy. If you have ever worked on a PC than you can easily swap the DVD drive out of an Xbox.

I think my one local Kmart had one in their cases, they may have switched it into the back room. I think someone said the price @ Kmart for one of the bundles was down to $60 something months ago. So, if I can convince them to look in their backroom(lotsa luck), then maybe it's down to $20-30 by now.

If you do find an Xbox @ a Kmart though, have it price checked, since it COULD be clearanced down to some insane price.

I just picked up a halo edition xbox for $65. The green case looks amazing.

Anyways, I popped it open and cleaned the insides from dust (including lens even though it worked like it should). Very nice unit in great condition, plus it turns out it's one of the later ones since it was made sometime in April '04. I looked online, and the motherboard version in this one is 1.6, so I'll be ordering a Xecuter 3 CE chip along with a 250GB hard drive soon :bouncy:
