Just got this in my email:

SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe, Ltd today announced SEGA Bass Fishing for the Wii, the latest addition to one of the most successful fishing game franchises of all time. With content developed exclusively for the Wii, SEGA Bass Fishing will be released in early 2008.

SEGA Bass Fishing is back and better than ever returning with all-new intuitive controls utilizing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. With over 20 different types of lures to choose from, gamers can cast off using the Wii Remote to try and land one of four different types of freshwater bass. SEGA Bass Fishing also offers gamers the freedom to select time-of-day and season during play which impacts the activity of the fish, their appetite, and their depth. When players hook a big one, they can use the motion sensor to reel it in! Featuring 15 beautifully designed lake environments, SEGA Bass Fishing has four fun-filled game modes including Arcade, Tournament, Practice and Nature Trip modes.
Makes sense.

This needs 10X more depth.

I'll post some screens once I get them uploaded. Don't expect them to have advanced the game much beyond DC-level graphics. Boxart kind of sucks, too, compared to the DC original.

So cash in eh?

Man as much as people here at CAG dont think so I imagine that a quality fishing title would sell a lot.

I think a quality fishing title would sell a lot too. Unfortunately not many titles ever come close. The Wiimote would be perfect for it, but I doubt we'll ever see one.

In my honest opinion Sega Marine Fishing for the DC was the best fishing game I ever played. Not because it had depth to it, but I had the most fun catching fish because they actually fought back but it was if you had the skill to land it you could. If they could incorperate the fights of Sega Marine Fishing into here I will be happy (and all the crap collecting that Sega Marine Fishing had because that added length to the game). I wouldn't buy this for $50 unless you have full controll of where you fish at but I would buy it for $30 if they added advanced AI to the mix.

Sega Marine Fishing was also my favorite fishing game on the Dreamcast. It was a blast with the fishing controller; the wide array of fish to catch along with the collectible and aquarium aspects of the game made it an interesting game.

I agree 100%. The Sega fishing games are alot of fun, but very arcadey feeling. I used to play the hell out of the Reel Fishing series on PS1 & PS2, which is more akin to a fishing sim. I think that kind of game could also work well with wiimote controls.

I'll be the third to say that Sega Marine FIshing was the best fishing game of all time. It probably ranks as a top 5 DC for me of all time. I wonder if they could just put a port of this game in with the Bass fishing package? If so, I buying it.

Fishing master is scoring a solid 70% from both reviewers on Gamerankings...

Better than i would have thought.

Wish they would update the graphics. Doesn't even look as good as the fishing pond in Zelda.

Apparently this is out now? Might have to give it a look. I have the DC version tucked away along with the fishing controller. The Wii is easily becoming the Arcade console with Ghost Squad and then House of the Dead coming up. Come on Crazy Taxi! Ambulance and Safari game too.

Should've been Sega Marine Fishing.

Which I'm now feeling compelled to go play. Fishing controller FTW.

Anybody get this yet ? I've read it's just a port of the Dreamcast game - not that that's an entirely bad thing. I'm just torn between this game and HOOKED! real fishing that comes with a controller thingy. Both the trailers look pretty good, but it's hard to tell when it's only 1/10 the actual screen size in those tiny videos.

Just trying to solicit opinions here. Speak up !

I got Sega Bass Fishing. Yeah, it's pretty much the same as the dreamcast version but with some extra levels. I loved the hell out of this game then and this one's not too shabby either for only $30; just don't expect much in the graphics department.

I've heard horrible things about Hooked!. Yes, it has the badass controller peripheral, but the game is supposed to be terrible.

I have the game and love it. The Nature Trip mode is great for some no-pressure fishing.

I have $25 in Best Buy rewards that expire tomorrow and I'm torn between this and House of the Dead, which comes out tomorrow. Are either of these better than Rapala fishing? My son really loves the fishing in Zelda so I thought I'd get a game that we could play together.

It has a more arcade style to it but at the same time the fishing is very good and fun (well the DC version is atleast). It would be perfect for you and your son.

I've played both this and Fishing Master. Between the two I prefer this because of the gameplay, however Fishing Master uses the Wiimote a bit better. This is basically a port of the DC version with some extra levels. If it ain't broke don't fix it approach. Fishing Master on the other hand, while fun and seems to offer tons of different fish/locations, is too easy. You basically just catch fish after fish all you want. The time element in Sega Bass makes it more fun.

I forgot about timed levels. I think Fishing Master may be the choice. I just can't seem to find it in any B&M stores.

Fishing master is somewhat kiddy. The thing is though some of the harder fish give you a real challenge, much more so than the simple tension system on previous sega bass fishing games.

If you can live with the kiddy approach then fishing master is fun, sega bass looks like it could be as well, I have yet to play it on the wii.

I want a solid fishing game; it seems like all the ones available now are solid in some ways but lacking in others. What I really want is to be able to fish off the boat in Endless Ocean. For those who have played most of the available fishing games, which is the most relaxed?

It is a fun game, fairly solid, but it is pretty arcadey, you can only move side to side and can't really explore much in the boat (unless this changes later in the game.)

If you want it to be relaxed you could always play this with no time limit. I'm pretty sure theres like a endless mode and I could check later to be sure. Compared it to Fishing Master, I guess thats more laid back cause you just sit there for as long as you want catching fish. It gets boring though cause if you sit there for 20 minutes you'll probably have already caught 20+ fish.

Theres still a couple other fishing games I haven't played. Rapala and Hooked I think are the other two. Might be more out there haha.

Thanks for the info! This Sega one sounds the best to me so far (I never played the DC version). I heard nothing but horrible things about Rapala. I might hold off, since I have way more games than I can play right now, but if I see the Sega one cheap enough I might bite.

Just got this for $10.99 at Costco. I'm not sure if I'll get to play tonight or not, but as soon as I get to play I'll post my impressions.

Got a copy last night from Costco and opened it this morning. My son has played it for about 4 hours today, so , unfortunately, I can't give a personal recommendation.

It does look better than the Dreamcast version, I think. I'm looking at it on a 50" plasma and trying to use my memory to compare. My kid seems to like it since he hasn't yet given me a chance to play it.

Finally got to play last night. It's really fun, much more than I expected. My wife started making fun of it but then found herself watching and admitting that it looked pretty enjoyable. I only played the first two locations, but it's very faithful to being in an arcade, and I can tell there's more depth to the fishing mechanic than what I've come across yet.

This is a great game to show to anyone. You can tell a person to just pretend like their fishing and they can be playing the game like a pro already.
