i think it will be alot more slim than the ps2, probably will have 2 ports again, probably will come with a hard drive and an ethernet port built in.

i think it will probably either be white, or silver.. i dont want it to be black.. not sure why.

the controller will probably be the same as always, but they should try to make it more comfortable, kinda like the GC controller.

Why has the PS always had 2 controller ports? That was one of the reasons I bought the Xbox 2 years ago instead of the PS2.

It's cause sony likes charging you extra for the multitap.

Because ps and ps2 = 8playerable and xbox is not.How much more does it cost to be able to use 8 players on the PS2?

What will it look like?

Well next time you take a dump, stand up and look down.

Haha, I kid I kid. I'm assuming it'll be somewhat similar to the PS2 or maybe PSX (the all-in-one thing, not PS1) in design.

Hopefully 4 controller ports.

I don't know, clear case, rounded edges, colorful lights.

I doubt they'll put 4 ports.. after all, the multi-tap is good money.

It almost definitely will not have a hard drive included. For the same reason Xbox-next probably won't have one.. it's too expensive and near end of life its just pathetically small.

I guarantee we won't see a clear case and colorful lights.. not too many people want a carnival machine in their entertainment center.

At launch I'd say its going to be black or possibleysilver, they'll retain the rectangular shape allowing horizontal or vertical mount. It will include ethernet capabilities (after all, Sony is jumping hardcore on the online bandwagon all of a sudden). It will still have two controller ports and two memory card ports (although going with USB flash media wouldn't suprise me). A hard drive will be available at or near system launch, but not included.

Whatever it looks like, it will probably have a satellite dish, its own 52' plasma screen, and a microwave on it.

I have a feeling that it will look more like the ps1 than the PS2. The PS2 had some serious design flaws (power button on back, having to turn on system to remove games, etc.) while the ps1 IMO was sleek, small and straightfoward.

My guess is either grey or black in color (have you ever noticed only systems that are black and grey are serious successes (gamecube doesn't count because there were a lot of different colors)), 4 control ports (I remember hearing the chief engineer say something about putting in four ports next system), and i doubt the system will be too much smaller, since there were few complaints about the size, especially after the xbow came out.

If anyone has ever seen the Dell Dimension 4700c, my guess is something like that

you're supposed to use the power button on the back the first time you turn it on, then when you're done playing you hold down the reset button until the light turns red, then you leave it like that..

that way you can just hit the eject button and put a game in without reaching around back, or if you want to play the game already in, you just press the reset button.

i've got a question about the hard drive.
Right now they're giving you a hard drive when you buy FFXI, and they say that you're paying like $50 for the game and the hard drive is free. Does this mean that they're losing money everytime they sell FFXI with a hard drive, and they're hoping on making it back with the subscriptions to FFXI?

Im sure it will be Either Blue or silver. I dont think it will be black because they want it to clearly llook different then ps2.

It SHOULD have a HDD,Network adapter,2 ports (even though i want 4)

Blue= Bad Juju

I say silver would look wery sleek, especially with some black (and blue) streaks thrown in.

I knew about the standby mode, but i just hate the concept. Keeping that little red light on always seems so wasteful. Notice how no other systems have that use a similar system.

Just give me a gold ol' power button thank yoo very much.

Here's a PS3 Mock-Up. It would be cool if this is how it came out, I never cared for the PS2 looks...I really liked the PS1 and Gamecube designs.

thats something a fan made. I saw that pic a while back. A playstation fan website was doing a thing where they got people to make what they thought the ps3 would look like, and thats what one person came up with. Its still a nice look though.

You do realize that nearly every system is black or grey...
SNES, Genesis, Saturn, N64

I got it! They put out a cheesy transparent case with gaudy neon lights, much like PC's!

Problem SOLVED! *gavel slams*

I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched the vertical mount because of DREs and such.

yeah, and all those systems succeeded. systems like Dreamcast (white), virtual boy (red), etc. were different colors, and they failed.

Most consumer electronics are a nurtral color like black, gray or white so that they arnt offensive to the eye. Sony has always said they chose not to go for 4 ports in order to keep the price of the system down by excluding everything they felt wasnt immediatly neccesary, so unless they come up with a 4 player launch title expect it to be two ports again with an optional 4player adapter later as usual. Frankly I prefer it that way as I dont even HAVE 4 people I know to play games with in the same room, besides with everything going to the internet why bother when I can play people who are all sitting comfortably at home.

Expect a ethernet port for this reason and a HD because they might as well start including one, although I suspect they;ll probably give you the option at first to buy the system without it so that they can continue selling FFonline HDDs (more reason to make the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 HDD games). Sony looses nothing on the purchase of FFonline HDDs, Square looses a small amount but the economy of MMORPGs has long established that profit is in the subscriptions, and not the innitial sale of the game which barely even covers the marketing budget.

Also the vertical position has nothing to do with the onset of DREs. It's a laser callibration issue.
