Looks like anyone who used Paypal in the last four years is eligible for some moola from Paypal, thanks to their settling of a class action lawsuit. Learn more (and file a claim) here:

its not really worth it. only 9.2 million to go around to every papypal user in the last four years! worldwide. you won't get more then 50 bucks.

Hey, $50 is a free full priced game. I have a feeling a lot of CAG's won't find it completely impractical.
Now the only thing I'm questioning.. I heard nothing of a class-action suit against PayPal, and as I understood it, the plaintiffs had to be enrolled in the class action suit before the settlement. I hope this isn't a scam.

I got the link from Paypal, plus here's a link to a story about the suit.

in an email that i read, i could've swore that it said that you had to have had a false transaction occur within that time or something...and/or failure to receive a payment notice or something

yeah but alot of hassles and work for that 50 bucks. Lots of paper work. I think paypal had to have taken money out of your account either by fees or from taken out on disputes. Its really long and I didn'r read the whole thing. If its just sign up and get 50 bucks then Im there! If its anything more involving I don't think I'll be in one this one.

I'd do it if I had been screwed by Paypal in the last five years. Thankfully, I haven't, but many others have.
This may sound like BS, but I eventually got my (small) check from the class action MAP settlement, the one where the RIAA was sued for monopolizing practices in setting CD prices. Funny how new cds have gotten a lot cheaper in the last year.

You can file if you opened a Paypal account between Oct 1 1999 and Jan 31 2004. It's in the FAQ. From what I understand, if you just had an account during that time, you can file a claim. However, if your Paypal account was frozen at some point and you can provide documentation, you can file for more money from a larger fund.
Those of us that just had accounts can be eligible for UP TO $50, but it's out of a fairly small fund, so the more people that file, the smaller the return.

As far as I know, everyone who opened an account before a certain date is eligible. This is because of illegal practices involving their "buyer protection" scam. Now I can drop my small claims suit against Paypal and still collect the $232 those f*ckers stole from me.

This is true, you are eligible, but you have to have a valad complaint to jump on board the laws suite. You have to tell them when you were denied funds, or give them the exact instance something happened. Unless you have a valad claim, your not getting squat.

Here's who can apply:
You experienced an unauthorized or incorrect electronic transfer to or from your PayPal account;
Your PayPal account was improperly restricted or access was improperly limited;
You requested information from PayPal about an account restriction or limitation or unauthorized transfer and you did not receive a satisfactory response; and/or
You experienced or reported an unsatisfactory result from a dispute with PayPal involving a chargeback, a refund, a buyer complaint, or PayPal’s Seller Protection Policy, Buyer Complaint Process and/or Buyer Protection Policy.
I miss out by like 3 months.

The only complain I have is they have outrageous fees and when you get/give a refund you have to pay those fees twice.

I have filed a complaint using short form. It's very easy to fill out, just fill in your name, address, and phone number twice I believe.

That's right...the short form is the way to go...
If you have a larger, valid complaint, you use the long form where you have to document your issues...
It should only take a few moments...
You just need to know when about you signed up with PayPal...
$50 is $50...

How the hell do you find out when you opened your account? I can't fill in this field because I've got no clue. Any ideas?

Anyone who opened an account during that time period can file a claim. Those who were wronged by Paypal can file a claim for reimbursement from a larger settlement fund, but anyone who had an account can file a claim (for possible statuatory reimbursement from a fund of $1,000,000).
I doubt the reimbursement for those who make a statuatory claim will be as much as $50....especially if attorneys' fees, court fees, etc... come out of the $1,000,000 first, as they usually do. Assuming attorneys' and court fees don't come out first, 20,000 statuatory claims is the magic number to get at least $50. Less than 20,000 = more than $50....More than 20,000 = less than $50...

Check your history when you logon to Paypal. You can choose the dates to search by...so just choose a beginning date way before you ever would have joined. The first transaction in your history should be (or be close to) the date you joined.

Thank you for contacting PayPal. We appreciate the time you have taken to
inquire about the preliminary settlement for the PayPal class action lawsuit. Please allow us to offer further information.
On June 11th, 2004, PayPal entered into a settlement agreement with a proposed class of PayPal customers that is being represented by Girard Gibbs & De Bartolomeo LLP and Wolf Popper LLP. Those firms filed a lawsuit in 2002 on behalf of a class alleging that PayPal did not appropriately communicate about customer transactions and did not appropriately process limits that were placed on some customer accounts. In this agreement, PayPal does not acknowledge that any of the allegations in the case are true and entered into the settlement agreement to avoid further costs of litigation, and to devote resources to more productive areas of our business.
Most PayPal customers who opened an account between October 1, 1999 and
January 31, 2004 are eligible to participate in the settlement. PayPal will be sending a notice via email advising eligible customers how to participate in the class action settlement. This email will be sent in the July/August timeframe. The email notification will more fully explain the lawsuit, your legal rights under the settlement, what benefits may be available to you under the settlement, and how to get them.
If you opened a PayPal account between October 1, 1999 and January 31, 2004, you are a member of the class unless you fit into one of the following exclusions. Excluded from the class are: any judicial officer to whom the lawsuit is assigned; any current or former employee, officer, or director of PayPal; anyone who resides in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, or United Kingdom; and all persons who timely and validly request exclusion from the class.
Please understand that PayPal's employees and subsidiaries cannot provide information or legal advice in relation to the class action lawsuit and proposed settlement.
Please watch for further updates regarding the preliminary settlement. Thank you for contacting PayPal.
Sincerely,
The PayPal Team
