I don't think they have trial cards anymore. You could always try XBL Silver. (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/silverage.htm)
you get a 1 month free trail when you sign up

no the 360 cards will not work on the old xbox,you have to use your credit card to set up a 360 account,then you can do recovery on your old xbox and get on live.ive heard you can go to microsoft billing webpage and set up your card info and do it that way to
