OS installs suck.
In the past two days, I've installed:
Server 2003 x64
Windows XP x64
Windows XP x86
Vista x64

This blows. When I use server or XP x64 my media wont transcode to my PS3. When I use XP x86, I can't dymanically resize my partitions-- needed for when I add another HDD to my raid. When I use Vista, my media streams perfectly and I can resize my drives, however, there is no Vista version of the raid controller software for which I would need to physically/logically add a new drive to my array.

I really want to go with Vista as it has almost everything I need. I think I may just end making a new 2003 install on another drive when I add my last drive to my array. That would put 7 hard drives in my server. :roll:

OS installs suck.
In the past two days, I've installed:
Server 2003 x64
Windows XP x64
Windows XP x86
Vista x64

This blows. When I use server or XP x64 my media wont transcode to my PS3. When I use XP x86, I can't dymanically resize my partitions-- needed for when I add another HDD to my raid. When I use Vista, my media streams perfectly and I can resize my drives, however, there is no Vista version of the raid controller software for which I would need to physically/logically add a new drive to my array.

I really want to go with Vista as it has almost everything I need. I think I may just end making a new 2003 install on another drive when I add my last drive to my array. That would put 7 hard drives in my server. :roll:

Try having fun with Ubuntu. I still need to figure out how to get my Vista laptop, my linux desktop and my mothers XP desktop to jive and all see each other...

That puts my PS3 savings total to $230. I'm pretty sure I'm going to trade in my PS2, putting me in the $300 range. I should be able to pick up the 40GB on the day of release.

On my main desktop, when it was set as a tri-boot, I had several hard drives partitioned all down to M: IIRC. One partion was all the MP3s, one partition was all the movies and vids, one was games, another was apps, one was personal files and data, etc.

Every now and again, I'd re-arrange all the drive letters for a joke so she couldn't find anything.

She got even with me: She took EVERY single MP3 file (at the time, we had about 30 gigs of MP3s) that I had meticulously sorted in directory trees by artist, sub-sorted by album and the she dumped every last one into a new directory and deleted the file structure I slaved over.
