My current area doesn't have Game Rush stores (Columbus) ... my old hometown where the family is has a ton of 'em (Cincy), and I don't recall the store I at least stopped into (Fort Wright) having any.

BTW ... seems a BUNCH of Northern KY stores have 60 gig PS3's and they will be $450 new tomorrow. Going to get one.

As long as they are a "trade" store. I have 4 in the area and 3 of the 4 take trades one doesn't. I don't know why but the reason giving was "we aren't a trade store"

Damn, I just grabbed a 60GB last week at the Ft. Wright store...anyone know if Block Buster has a standard price protection policy for all their stores? I guess it wouldn't hurt to try bringing in the receipt and asking for the $50 back. Not a huge deal if they wouldn't, considering I paid for the whole thing in credit from flipping, but it'd be nice to have.

I'm actually not too impressed with those flips, djkunai. They don't seem worth the trouble and effort (and potential for banning of course). And they certainly aren't up to your usual 3x type profit standards :lol:.

I mean, according to your link you paid $11 for some of those Star Trek games. It gets $12 at GR, right? Even if you finagle the $5 bonus I don't consider that worth it. But you have fun, man ;).

What I'd like to see is your complete trade-in purchase/credit obtained/profit made history. I have something like that for all my GR/BB trading (though the profit is minimal and incidental since it was just a matter of selling things occasionally to fuel the trade-ins used to get games I kept for the most part).

Maybe some day I'll serve up my totals since I started trading at GR in 2005. While it may be impressive to some, I'm sure you have surpassed it just in Nov/Dec 2007 alone :lol:. I will put out two little tidbits: the average cost of my credit currently stands at 39%. That is, if I were to buy a $50 game it would have only cost me $19.50 in original trade-in fodder. I've been doing much better since my GR closed, though, since I've only bothered with 3 and 4x type trades in the last year. Many of my first trade-ins were at even money or even slight losses when I could get the $30 preorder deal (which isn't factored into the calculation - I just considered those games as costing me $30, not $50). The second tidbit is that I've been able to transfer about $1500 in credit to EB/GS or GC over the last 2 years. Much of that was when GR had their clearance sale and EB had a corresponding trade-in bonus promo. I also scoured all the local Blockbusters back when they used to sell regular new games (greatest hits type stuff and not just the new releases they may have now). Though about $300 of it was just from Halo 3->EB/GS last month. I wish now that I had done that a bit more as I'd like to be free of my Blockbuster credit entirely now.

One more factoid from my GR spreadsheet - I still am in posession of 191 gaming items that I bought at GR - games, systems (eg, my DS Lite as I never was able to get a Wii or PS3 there), controllers, etc. I kept a running total (and remove them if I sell them or give them away) so I could keep track of what my cost per item was (the 39% cost minus sales I've made from GR stuff). All I'll say is it was pretty damn cheap ;).

I wouldn't necessarily say desperate times. After flipping Beowulfs and Monster Madness to BB/GR, flipping Halo 3s to GS/EB, and reflipping some more Darkness, HoV, and Madden 06 (already flipped a bunch a few months back), I'd have to rank this up there with the T3G1 for $5 deal of yore. It's been a while since I could actually double my GR credit without having to reinvest more real money into the system (not factoring gas and time of course). I know that GR credit is not quite as powerful as GS credit, but I am fortunate enough to have a competent GR nearby and more than a few BB stores have been stocking more new games and accessories as of late.

Oh, and just asking, has anyone seen the PSP Slims at their BB/GRs (Core or Daxter)? My GR still have the 1000 Cores (for $160 of course).

Actually didn't get my PS3 this morning from Fort Wright, got it from the Union store (I know the manager there, he survived Cov. Latin with me in the 90's), I know both still have systems and the guy in Fort Wright (who I also know) wants to get rid of 'em bad. Although you might agree, the stores don't seem to make a big deal of what they have system wise. They could have Wii's for all I knew, but you'd never know it.

Definitely going to trade in stuff in Columbus, and use it those times that I make it back to the old home.

It looks similar to teh Sega GT/Jet Set Radio bundle from the old Xbox. Normal size case, Marvel art on the front, Forza on the back and the spine is split, with both Marvel and Forza on it.

Others have covered it, but WTF?? I've never seen a DS of any kind for sale in a regular BB. And all they have is that craptacular PS3 bundle in the stores near me. Those do still seem to be available - or at least they haven't taken the signs down yet ;).

Well I just got banned from the Northridge GR. I asked why, but couldn't get anything specific. To me it seemed more likely to be a store level decision than a corporate one. They pulled down the $5 bonus poster they had up since I started trading there. I apologize to anyone who may have gotten in trouble over my antics, though like I said I don't know anything about what happened.

No big deal, since the bonus doesn't apply to Wii/PS3 games which will become the majority credit builders in the coming months. Still sad, since I'd been going to that store for months following (for the most part) the established rules. I know I overkilled it a few times. Still. I'm going to miss the employees, too. Good times, good times.

I think they only stock the $599 80 gig PS3 bundle at regular blockbusters that i've seen. Gamerushes seem to carry the 40Gig, 60Gig, and 80Gig.

Speaking of the 60 Gig PS3 I walked into my Gamerush today with my reciept and unopened ps3 and asked if I could get a credit of $53.25 back since the 60Gig just dropped in price and was $449 in Kentucky. The young guy there was like "hmmm, yah stores can set there own prices so its just that store." I refrained from saying BS and just mentioned two stores in KY had that price so I think its a chain wide price drop.

The girl working was like "let me scan it to see what it rings up at." Of course it rings up at $449.99. I then ask if I can return/rebuy it since I just bought it two days ago and its still sealed. She denies me again and says the store manager would have to decide whether or not I can do it or not.

Damn Frustrating!

Yeah, doing ANY sort of return at a Gamerush has always been a hit or miss experience. They don't seem set up for that sort of thing and it seems the employee/store/manager is punished in some way for too many returns. They have said as much to me in the past. So they are very reluctant to do it - especially on a $500 item I would imagine. So I understand her booting it up to the store manager. You may have an easier time just getting them to give you the difference in credit as opposed to doing the return/rebuy. But then that has it's own host of issues... (employees giving out free credit can draw the ire of the DM).

h2dk - is there a cheap source for those games? Or are those the old Amazon Christmas deal ones?

Well, they did at first but they made a corporate decision to back the PSP a few years back (there was much discussion in the GR thread about it - nearly all stores converted their DS rental stock to used games). My local (non-GR) store still rents PSP but not DS games... I could see them going back to it with the popularity of the DS. Certainly it makes no sense to rent PSP and not DS, but then BB never makes much sense :roll:.

And aea414, flipping at EB/GS is possible but very rare and requires a unique set of circumstances. The last time I was able to do it (besides the Halo 3 transfer from Blockbuster which was more just a matter of an even exchange) was when they had the trade any 2 Wii games get a new one free. I used clearance games from CC that I got for $16.96 or less (some as low as $12 after coupons) to preorder games like Super Mario Galaxy and SSBB. I had to do a return this week for some new DVDs that were damaged in the package, and they made it difficult, of course. It took two trips to get my refund, because I had to come back and plead my case to the store manager when he was working. The whole process made me feel like I was doing something wrong by returning the DVDs.

I was told that BB/GR doesn't normally accept returns at all on new merchandise, but that I was granted an exception due to the circumstances. I like getting things cheap with store credit, but shopping there is too much of a hassle sometimes. I'd rather just buy someplace like Best Buy, where I know I can take something right back to the store without a fight if there's a problem. I never thought I'd be more comfortable shopping at Best Buy of all places.

60GB has 100% backwards compatiblity, 4 usb ports and memory card slots(i don't think the 40GB has that)

I was just as shocked as you. Only the stores that rented the games sold the DS Lites. And actually, one of those BBs didn't have the systems out in front for all to see, they had the boxes mixed amongst the rental games. Very odd, but it ensured there were 5 left, while the other store only had 1.

Yes it's true (as confirmed by someone else). BB sent out a communication to all CA stores regarding the policy. So, assuming the managers actually read their e-mails (hah!), you should be able to get them cashed in. The stores won't offer to do it though, so you'll have to ask. Also, realize that if you just walk in and ask them to cash it in for you, you'll probably be given the run around as noone will want to (they're lazy and will probably suspect you of stealing it or something). However, if you use it to buy something and then ask for the remainder amount back in cash, they'll probably do it without much of a second thought (although it does require a manager in order to do it). Also, there was no differentiation between value cards and giftcards in the communication so it sounds like you should be able to cash in either one just the same.

Does GS/EB or GC still do that? I know for a while they all did that. Last I checked you had to express "serious interest" in buying it first, but that was 4 years ago.

I would like this, not only to use it, but if it's true I need to inform my boss so we can figure out how to update the store's computer system for this.

I've done the same sort of things for manuals on occasion, but never for cover art (which requires a bit more speed and subtlety.) Traded the MUA in a spare case at GR for $15 without incident (I bought the bundle mainly for Forza.) A good solution for those whose stores require covers for trade-ins!:twisted:

The great thing about PnT is that most of the time they will 'price match' trade in values of other stores. usually their own trade values are pretty good.

Well, GS sells the 2-pack for $20 used. So I doubt you'd get much value. At BB/GR, Forza 2 fetches $22 now and I think MUA is still $15 (anyone confirm this?). You can print out cover art and insert each in new cases if that's the issue, or call around to a couple and ask if you need the cover art. It's YMMV on that one.

The CAG wiki has trade-in prices only. I should have held off for Mass Effect there instead of burning up $54 in GS credit (used the 10% off coupon at least). (I still haven't bothered calling back at the closer one - guess I'll do that tomorrow). The problem is, I can't think of many games they will be guaranteed to carry and since they always get them later than everyone else it means waiting to see if they even get it. I guess the next big one I'd want is SSBB. But am I willing to wait an extra few days to see if they even get it or not? I dunno... I guess I could pick up my EB preorder and then if BB gets it in the next few days I can return that copy to EB and get my more precious EB credit back. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Of course, I was hoping to cultivate a relationship with the closest store that carries new games and get them there whenever possible - hoping maybe I'd be able to call and see what they have in and all that, maybe even have them hold things for me. But this is the store where I first found out I was banned, so I'm soured on the whole thing. They could have gotten a lot of new games sales out of me like the old GR store did. They thought I was a great customer (and I was in that I brought credit from other stores and spent it all there ;)).

Hmmm why would you not want to just spend an extra $50 and get a 60GB. The 60 has full backwards compatibility of ps1/ps2 via hardware. The 40GB doesn't have any ps2 playback whatsoever, has 2 less usb ports, no SACD playback, and no memory card ports (You have to have memory card ports to use PC mods for Unreal Tournament). IMO all that extra stuff is more than worth it.

The only possible advantage is a smaller nm cell chip (graphics chip is still the same AFAIK) is that its slightly cooler and slightly more quiet, hardly a difference since the 60GB is already very cool and quiet.

The 60 GB isn't really a bundle, just the regular 'ol 60 GB model. It's the PS3, one SIXAXIS controller, USB charge cable, power cord, and A/V cord.

The price tag on the box says $499 but once they ring it up it should be $449. Its just the now rare and discontinued 60GB PS3 system alone, not aware of a bundle unless its the 80gb or 40gb.

Well I have absolutely no intentions of ever playing a ps2 titles on it, I really have no intentions of putting mods in any game and I don't have any SACDs.

I'm not sure whether or not the price drop doesn't apply til the transaction button is hit but a manager of two Blockbusters’s told me received notice of the price drop from corporate. So I believe it is a nationwide drop.

No, not really. The only thing I got out of the second store was that it was because I traded Beowulf into "3 or 4" different stores. What I did was trade 1 360 copy into my local store, and then 1 360/1 PS3 copy into 3 more stores. I never traded a duplicate into any of them either - no more than 1 per store (on each system).

Last I heard trading a game into 3 different stores was not against the trade agreement but whatever... I still need to call and see if I've been reinstated. For all I know I have been since the end of Dec when that store manager said she'd call the DM. I told her the DM was welcome to call me and I had receipts for the games I could fax them if they thought I was stealing them somewhere and trading them in. I never got a call - so either they just overturned it no problem or the DM didn't want to discuss it and let the thing stand. Could have gone either way ;).

Absolutely not (they are not able to select anything for their own store). It is all dictated by corporate according to some demographics data they think they have :roll:. My GR didn't even get in some games I preordered months in advance. Even in that case they couldn't get one sent there (while other GR stores out of state did, so Blockbuster carried it in general, just not at my store). There was also no way they could order something for me after the fact. It was always a big surprise to them what they'd get in each week. To top it all off, even when they had stuff on order (thus entered into the system by corporate) they didn't always get it.

Well, I think it started off that way but with Blockbuster's troubles in general, the GR concept has been neglected. They've kept most of the stores open but don't seem to be putting any effort into them any more.

BB just do not know how to operate as a retail store, they are a rental store that occasionally has stuff to sell, it's just plain dumb that so many years later they still cannot order items from their own wherehouse, or easily transfer from store to store. But you know what, thats just fine, if they don't get my game, I just cancel and get something else, they are just a cog in my pipeline, and I never put myself in a position that a game must be in my possession day one. Halo 3 is the only game that comes to mind that I just had to own Day 1, and I still haven't finished it, or even really started it. I'm busy playing puzzle quest on my pc :)

I would tend to agree - though when I had the one (and only) GR near me I would keep all my trades on the account there. That way, if on a whim I wanted to stop in and buy or preorder something there was always funds to do so (since I don't carry my Value cards around in my wallet or car unless actively trading). Of course, cards can be lost or stolen too, while the credit on your account is safe at least in that respect (though not to unscrupulous BB employees ;)).

Now that I don't have a GR there is absolutely no point in keeping credit on any one BB store account so it ALL goes on my Value cards. Of course, YMMV on finding a clerk who knows how to reload them :roll:.

well i havent found anything yet that you dont lose anything on but the least losses are halo 3 used ($45 into $42), mario galaxy new ($49 into $42), and final fantasy revenant wings new ($39 into $28). let me know if anybody finds anything else close or better. of course this may be ymmv. actual GR have new games where i dont think BB do.

Eh, kind of a toss-up I'd say. I already have a 360, so PS3-exclusives are mainly all that interested me and there's only about 4-5 of those that I wanted to play right now. If you plan on ever playing PS2 games, now would be a good time to snag a 60 GB before they're gone. Otherwise, I'd say you could probably just wait for an eventual price drop (the currently-released good titles will be cheaper by then too).

EDIT: If you don't have a 360, I'd say now is as good a time as any to get a PS3.

I was thinking of the $45 -> $42 thing being OK. The problem is you need 3 games for the EB deal so I'd have to toss 2 throwaway games in there and now it is only $45->$39.20. That isn't really worth it.

Why oh why doesn't Blockbuster run another used game promo? B2G1 free or 25% off or something - they used to do these kind of things almost continuously.

I would tend to agree - though when I had the one (and only) GR near me I would keep all my trades on the account there. That way, if on a whim I wanted to stop in and buy or preorder something there was always funds to do so (since I don't carry my Value cards around in my wallet or car unless actively trading). Of course, cards can be lost or stolen too, while the credit on your account is safe at least in that respect (though not to unscrupulous BB employees ;)).

Now that I don't have a GR there is absolutely no point in keeping credit on any one BB store account so it ALL goes on my Value cards. Of course, YMMV on finding a clerk who knows how to reload them :roll:.

While it may be a good idea to keep them on a giftcard do take note that they do depreciate if you don't touch the credit on the giftcards for a long long time.

Also if you suspect that anyone is tampering in your account whether its with tampering with your instore credit if its done by an employee or someone thats not your account you always have the right to dispute it and if your lucky to get a printed copy of your record which is very YMMV.

I've done it a few times, so that punches holes in his credibility a little. I'm going to keep looking although I could use another controller since I need to use some of this pile of credit on something. Apparently, I may have to look for black and crimson DS Lites. It all depends on the area you are in. You can trade as little as 3 and get banned but then you could trade-in 30 and they wouldn't say anything these are extreme cases so you better hope you get cool with the employees so they don't get suspicious.

That's how I found out that the reason that my local stores outside of Gamerush won't give you a Value Card because people would steal games and then trade them back into BB so to prevent the movement of the credit they make you spend it off your account at that store.

I have a weird story about being banned...

My girlfriend and I go to BB/GR together, I usually do the trading but sometimes on the "longer" deals such as MUA/Forza she may flip 1-2 per store.

Now, I traded 1-2 to each of GR, which maybe a total of 3-4 Forza / MUA each. She did the same thing. I have a history of Beowulf, Darkness, Ice Age 2 etc, multiple copies of each.

And now, we find out she was banned. O_O

I was shocked. I am not banned, I trade 2x as much as she did, which respectively is not much AT ALL. Probably about the same as io. She did much less, maybe a total of 12-15 games in the last 6 months. And she was banned.

I don't think it was a store ban either, we rarely traded at that particular store, and we ALWAYS traded in moderation. Always 1 per title per store, only Beowulf and MUA/Forza did we do 2 per store. I don't understand how she was banned.

Anyway we can fight this? Clearly, we didn't violate any rules of theirs.

I would call moderation one trade per game. Otherwise it's just suspicious period if someone wanted to nit pick. And that's what I do.

So thats two for you guys total following that rule , which pretty much guarantees that you wont have issue.

Of course you can fight it - bring in the trade agreement and highlight the key parts and ask what the hell got you banned.

Question guys: I have amassed another large sum of GR credit thanks to MUA/Forza, The Darkness, Monster Madness, etc. I'm considering buying an Elite with the credit. I have a 360 already, but it's my second refurb from M$, so I know its days are numbered. Do you all think that's crazy to have a second 360? Should I hold out for something else (the rumored Amazon gift cards, an iPod)? And if I bite, how do I ensure it's a BenQ Falcon? The one in the case comes with MUA/Forza. Question guys: I have amassed another large sum of GR credit thanks to MUA/Forza, The Darkness, Monster Madness, etc. I'm considering buying an Elite with the credit. I have a 360 already, but it's my second refurb from M$, so I know its days are numbered. Do you all think that's crazy to have a second 360? Should I hold out for something else (the rumored Amazon gift cards, an iPod)? And if I bite, how do I ensure it's a BenQ Falcon? The one in the case comes with MUA/Forza. Does that mean it's from a newer lot? Any help/advice would be much appreciated!
To be sure it's a Falcon, it needs to say 175w instead of 203w on the sticker. The last I looked (a couple of weeks ago) none of the Pinellas GameRushes had any definite Falcon Elites. They mostly had older ones with the holiday games added.

The only definite Falcons I've seen come into GameRush so far are Pro systems, and I picked up one of those with credit a couple of weeks ago. There should be some more at local stores if you're willing to settle for a Falcon Pro.

I don't know anything about the BenQ or Falcon, but I do think it is a good idea to grab another 360. These things are extremely fun, but if you are missing any other system, grab that first. I'm sure you still have awhile left on that 360 warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. I already have a DS Lite, PSP, PS3 and Wii, so I'm pretty much set on the console front. I'm really interested in the 120G hard drive; that's why I'd want an Elite. However, it seems buying the hard drive separately and then getting an Arcade system would only be about $20 more.

I saw Arcades at every store, but all were marked 203w. They might have been Falcons, but there's no way to know until you buy one.

Not seeing much worth getting lately, and not having extra cash to splurge on flippables, I more or less "Cashed out" to 1600 XBL points x2, 2000 Wii Points x2, a 360 controller, and a few PS2 games with the $165 in credit I had on gift cards.

Not a bad haul for about $0.30 or so on the dollar.

Smash Bros comes out in less then a month!!! I know the game isnt for everyone but WiFi battles, and everything else this game has...to me its a must buy, and since that Walmart price mistake didn't pan out I might as well get it for 25 bucks (A forza/mua + madden06).

Actually, just FYI, Smash Bros was pushed back another month into March.

Blockbusters are doing a deal where if you buy Family Guy: Blue Harvest ($16.99 Regular, $26.99 SE) you get $10 off any of the Family Guy seasons (i think the 3 latest are $29.99 each, making them $19.99).

Not a deal at all if you are using cash, but if you made a lot of credit by flipping, its a good deal. I got the BH SE and it comes with a lot of cool stuff. Really nice packaging as well.
