There are no GR around bay area. I already have $132 credit after a few trades. What am I going to do with this credit since the BBs I've been too don't get any hardware?
I already have PS3, Wii, and PSP. I guess I can go to a GR whenever I am in another city and buy some games for a DS or something.
Otherwise, not sure if I want more credit there.

Any comments/ideas?

I don't think it's changed since I just setup a new trading account at a different blockbuster last week.

It could vary from state to state, but I doubt it.

Thanks guys. I found it. It is on the back of the Yellow Trading Authorization form. HOWEVER, be careful.

It is number 9 on the back and it states verbatim
"(b) two copies per game platform type of the same game software title per membership account per day. Blockbuster may further limit number of copies of a title and overall number of goods accepted in a trade transaction of from a member or authorized trader without advance notice in its sole discretion."

With that said, they can use that statement as their safety net right?

Just checked the GS website they have updated the price of this game new to 19.99 id assume 17.99 used if you can find it. I dont think they have a locator for it yet.

Even new though, 20 minus the 10% and the edge card thats pretty damn solid :) all stores within 10 miles of my place have 4+ copies

I live in the NYC and the closes GR is in Staten island that requires A) a 30 minute ride plus $10 + tolls or B) 25 minute ferry ride plus a 20 minute ride from my brother you lives in SI. SO before I trek out there it would good to know if its even worth it. GS is dime a dozen but their trade i values always suck. The regular BB don't accept hardware in my area so it has to be GR or ebay.

GR are never keen on giving out values unless they scan it themselves sometimes you'll get lucky but more often than not GR workers never give you the value over the phone.

Activated my 20-wk rental card that I received for purchasing the $600 80GB PS3 bundle. Used it to rent Endless Ocean for Wii, after using the free rental, I bought it on the spot. Was charged the previously played price of $24.99. (Of course I dumped a copy of The Bigs prior to the rental)

Interesting observations of a regular (non-GR) Blockbuster tonight:

I went there with some of my credit hoping to pick up Wii Points cards or MS points cards (I had bought a Wii Points card there before). As I walk up I see a sign that says "Clearance on toys and games!". Sweet, I'm thinking, a discount on the few new games they carry. Alas, it was not to be as it meant the frontlane toy stuff like Shrek Etch-A-Sketch and High School Musical 8-balls and stuff like that. I did get a Harry Potter Chinese Fireball dragon plush for my daughter (on sale for $5.99 from $7.99) and a Pirates of the Caribbean chess set for my son's birthday (on sale for $12.99 from $19.99) so the trip was not a complete waste. FINALLY, something to spend my credit on ;).

Now, the more interesting part for you guys is the big PS3 display they had set up - complete with a 40" (or so) widescreen HDTV and a PLAYABLE PS3! This little kiosk had the signs up for the $599 PS3 deal, a couple of PS3 boxes, a Rock Band (for PS3) box, and several Blu-Ray movies. So much for my plan of buying Blu-Ray movies from Blockbuster, though, as Ratatouille, which I would definitely be interested in, was $34.99. Even at the credit "discount" that hardly seems worth it to me. Maybe if I actually HAD a PS3... Anyway, then I checked out their new game stock. Except for one 360 game (Halo 3) all their new games were for the PS3 - Assassin's Creed, Ratchet, Lego Star Wars, Uncharted, and a few others. I would have been very tempted ot get Burnout Paradise for the 360 if they had it, so maybe that's for the best anyway (they didn't have it for PS3 either).

So while it is nice to see a playable demo system there of any kind (keep in mind this is NOT a GR store!) it seems they are phasing out the other stuff in favor of PS3 exclusivity. This sucks for me since that is the only system I don't currently have. Maybe if the rumored drop comes along and BB follows suit with a $100 drop on that bundle then I'll get it... We'll see... Note also that there is a slight possibilty all they had left was PS3 games because no one buys them and the 360 and Wii stuff is just temporarily sold out - there hasn't been a big release in a while for either of those systems (assuming they didn't get Burnout Paradise in yet) so any stock would have been there for a while and prbably sold before Christmas.

In terms of accessories they no longer had any points cards (Wii or 360) and just had cards up for 2 Wii remotes and 2 PS3 controllers - no 360 stuff at all...

The post wasnt really referring to systems, but towards games. But since BB uses the same system as gamerush, they would still be able to tell you how much its worth. Plus, you could always call another Gamerush.

Well, I'm surprised no one mentioned it as last we heard most GR stores were getting rid of their last gen demo systems and not putting in anything for the new systems. Seemed like big news to me (and this store didn't have it last time I was there in late December),

Went to BB and tried to trade them in. They said we cannot accept anything that doesn't have a barcode. So does that mean I have to put both games in different cases and print out the covers with the barcodes???

If thats the case, can someone send me a link to where I can print them out and what dimensions ? Thanks.

Simple answer, YES use an old dvd case that you have laying around and print off the covers if the store is giving you a problem. I have done this countless times and have never faced a problem (the covers cost about 20 cents per at staples).

Also if your asking for a trade in price that you dont see listed in the thread, then nobody has traded it in and we have just as good a guess as you when pertaining to what the trade in value will be. Just call.

2) My closest GR is 30 minutes away
3) I looked around on the thread and didn't find the answer I was looking for.
4) I've never spent less than 20 minutes on hold calling GR for trade values. When I do, I happily share them with my fellow CAGs. I prefer not to have to sit on hold for 20 minutes, so I asked.

So, after 30 minutes on hold this time... I DID get trade prices. I supposed I shouldn't share them, but put a link to a kiddy cell phone if anyone asks what they were. However, since I'm not a tool like you two:

Since they're currently $25 and $30 respectively at my BB, that may be worth a try.

I thought it was relatively harmless to ask, since Halo 3 is such a popular game and I was wondering if anyone had traded it recently. As gorgo mentioned, the wiki isn't updated that much. I completely agree. It's as though people jump at the opportunity when they see a fellow CAGer ask a question about the trade-in value of a game and all they do is see if they can come up with the most smart ass response ever instead of actually helping a person or simply stating "search this thread for your answer"

As many people have stated, their questions are not always answered in this thread or Wiki and sometimes it'd be easier to have someone answer their question since the point of this website is about helping each other and sharing information right?

I know I haven't been updating the Wiki as much recently. Is no one doing it? I'd like to ask anyone here that is a frequent Blockbuster trader to take over that duty if so. Just PM Cheapy and ask for a Wiki account and say it is necessary for the upkeep of this thread (and that I suggested it - not that that will mean much ;)). I am about to get more busy for work and am still having trading issues at my local stores so I'm just not into the whole scene so much any more (plus I also have more than enough credit - getting more just doesn't help me in any way).

In the future let's keep the snide comments about people asking for trade-in prices to a minimum. Now, if the current price is IN THE WIKI and say, less than a week old, then feel free to flame away ;).

Of course it goes without saying to keep requests for trade-in prices to a minimum as well. Look back a few pages and in the wiki first if, and then if, for some reason, you can't/don't want to call then ask. If no one knows your post will get ignored - no harm there.

irishsoccermbw - if you (or someone else) wants to compile me a list of the "flippers" I will put it in the second post and maintain it there. List the game, system, how much it gets at GR, and where it can be bought for less (and how much, obviously). In the past I would have avoided collecting such info in one place because you'd think someone at Blockbuster would be monitoring this and then adjust things accordingly, but I really don't think they bother.

OK, just to get the Wiki cleanup up a bit I have entered all the prices from the last 4-5 pages that I could pull out of all the other posts.

If I missed anything let me know. It was actually hard to figure out what MUA and Forza were since I'm out of that loop and everyone just reports the combo price if they do so at all. I think it is $22 for Forza and $15 for MUA, right?

A small observation - I see some flipping potential in Soul Calibur Legends for the Wii. It has got to drop or go on clearance somewhere soon and it gets $30 according to ViolentLee (hooray for his review copies of crappy games!). Same possibly for Blacksite Area 51 for the 360.

Skelah - In the past I would have agreed with you there. But really, if it took so long to "fix" Beowulf and Monster Madness (not to mention Forza/MUA which still aren't "fixed") that I really don't think they are watching this thread. It doesn't take a lot of digging to find out what everyone here is trading. Then again, it was never a big deal for me to look back a few pages to see what was up with the current trade-in deals. Now, however, I wouldn't mind the list as I can use it to plan out the occasional GC trade-in price match - which is what I've been doing more recently with some of these Blockbuster game prices. What a difference a chain makes though, as at Gamecrazy I had the manager congratulating me on finding out that Forza trade-in price at BB (back when it was $30 or so) and commenting that he needed to get a few to trade himself :lol:.

Another note - you know, it is perfectly acceptable to post trade-in values of games that aren't huge "flippers". I noticed a trend looking back for trade-in values of people almost apologizing for posting games with low trade-in values (or ones that couldn't be bougth cheap elsewhere). You know, this thread isn't supposed to be all about flipping for massive credit. Some people may actually just want to trade their own games in and want to compare GR to GC and EB/GS for them. So keep the trade-in prices of all sorts coming!

Straight up price. I don't think any BB in my area ever had the $5 bonus.

I would just make sure to trade them in tomorrow, since BB updates trade in prices on tuesdays. Some of the games are sure to drop, with my bet being forza/mua since so many have been traded in already.

You'd be better off getting the individual giftcards. I know my local BBV won't let you transfer store credit to a gift card after the trade is complete. I'm sure it's YMMV, though.

Yeah, you can trade to more than one BB, and the credit won't be available at any other store. You've got to put it on either a gift card or value card.

It's hit or miss. The biggest problem with BB is they rarely get new releases in on release day. GR I dunno, as I've never even been in one before.

GTA IV is the one game where I have no qualms at all spending full price on. I cannot wait for it and will be there with bells on at a midnight sale.

Corporately, I can see a number of reasons why they would require covers:


The barcode would help the transaction go by quickly and efficiently overall.
It would discourage the trading in of stolen games (it's pretty easy to steal the disc from a game in a mega store like walmart or target).
Better for the resale of the traded-in game (when you're at GS/EB don't you usually go for the game with the original cover instead of the generic cover with those cartoon characters on them?)

When I printed the first one i clicked zoom to fit, which was too big, so printing the way the picture is set to be is the best. If your worried about cutting it out just bring a cover to another game u have and use that to cut your covers around.

They actually are linked to an extent. If your balance goes above $30 you are blocked at all stores until it is taken care of.

And with block for trades they come from corporate, so they block the account at all stores as well. That is why your driver's license # is on the account. It links the account at any store.

Trade values are updated every tuesday. As for trade values for specific games, look to the wiki (link on the first post) or call your local store. As for PS3 games, the only one that comes to mind with me is if you can find the Bigs clearanced at your local target for 14.78. That trades for $33 to make it a fine kunai candidate.

Got $25 yesterday for Tony Hawk: Proving Ground. Since I had the limited edition ($8 at Target) which isn't a sku that's in the Blockbuster system, I took out the cover and used the booklet as a cover. They agreed to look up the game, fortunately, and mumbled something about having to reduce the trade value by a dollar or two since the cover was missing. In the end I got the full $25, though. This turned out to be a 3:1 trade ratio. :)

What game are you talking about, you could check the wiki to see what other people have been getting. Trade in prices change on Tuesday, so anytime you buy something that takes a week to arrive in the mail is a roll of the dice, IMHO it's not a smart move.

I got a question, if a blockbuster store doesn't have a game you trade in avaiable for rent(probably got stollen or lost) will the they give you more in trade value for it? Because I just traded a regular xbox game two days ago and they gave me 30 credit for it and I was shocked. But then I got greedy so I went to ebay and bought a whole bunch of the same game.....for cheap.... does anyone have any info on this? I got a question, if a blockbuster store doesn't have a game you trade in avaiable for rent(probably got stollen or lost) will the they give you more in trade value for it? Because I just traded a regular xbox game two days ago and they gave me 30 credit for it and I was shocked. But then I got greedy so I went to ebay and bought a whole bunch of the same game.....for cheap.... does anyone have any info on this? Did I just waste my money buying more copies of the game and that was a one time thing? or am I going to hit the jackpot when I get my ebay games?

I highly doubt someone's going to help you if you don't at least share what the game was. To me, it's like you're being greedy. Asking for help and not helping out other members.

Well, he bought 4 copies of GTA San Andreas for Xbox. Wiki lists that as $7 as of 7/11/2006. I don't know if M vs. AO makes a difference. I don't know why I even bother checking this thread, there aren't any GameRushes near me, and I haven't found a BlockBuster that wasn't absolutely pathetic regarding games.

I understand mods wanting to keep it clean, but I think my post that was deleted ought to be allowed. For one thing, it stated the game that may be worth a good trade-in value, and I feel it also raised a valid question as to whether the different versions of the game trade for different values (which might explain why the wiki has a much lower value listed for the game). I will not repost the information without a mod's approval, but I do ask that whomever it was who deleted my post please reconsider.

There definetely was an Xbox AO version (it came out the same time as the PC version). The whole Hot Coffee controversy happened pretty soon afterwards though, so it's much harder to find.

jdawgg it did, the reason I got so much for it was because they didn't have it availble to rent so the copy i gave them will be that copy that will be rented. hence why they gave me 30$ in trade for it. all they have to do is rent it 4 times and they get their money back. I doubt I'll get 30 again but who knows. and even then with GTA 4 coming out soon you know people are gonna want the old GTA's just like when halo 3 came out, everyone wanted the old ones again.

If things don't work out I plan to sell them via craigslist or ebay or local stores other then gameestop

Knew what it was right away even though I couldn't believe a game pulled from shelves years ago still had multiple copies sitting around at KMart. Figures.

By the way, thanks to those who posted about 360 accessory availability around them, unfortunately the GRs around me just carry the 20gig HDs and not the 120s and none have ever had the HDDVD addons either. And of course, no racing wheels. But since some of you have seen these items I'll keep checking. I could use a second wireless controller and I have enough to get a PS3 to use for BluRay now that I've gone HD (and a few games now until their software gets rolling) but I think I want to try and find a 60GB for BC in case my PS2 croaks. I did find Contra 4 and Metroid Hunters used, but in absolutely mint condition. They also had Hulk:UD, but it had no manual. The guy actually went to look in the rental cases to see if they had a manual in them for me. That made me feel bad when I screamed JDawgghulk SMASH and jumped up and down on all of the Rockband boxes before I crashed through the window. Oh well.

I was not aware there were any in Sacramento. I thought the closest was Fresno. I think you are out of luck for the Bay Area, anyway. But I will have to keep Sacramento in mind as that would then be the closest ones to me (still 100's of miles but occasionally I travel down there so I could make a stop).

Eh things have been smooth for me with marvel forza packs ive traded in two of them till now im being told 'original cover art only' then if I have that im being told ' we dont take that game at all because it was free' .

I dont see how they can sell copies of a game WITHOUT ORIGINAL COVERS and tell me they wont take mine cover or not.

The discussion itself isn't all that important, but it appears that BB/GR is attempting to enter the electronics business. Looks like it's limited to test stores at the moment, but it still looks promising. Everything is going to be overpriced, but when you're accumulating BB/GR credit for half or a third, does it really need to be cheap?

Yes, they have the right to refuse trades to ANYONE they feel. This has been discussed before....they can ban anyone for any reason. It's a business and they have the freedom to run it however they please.

I'm not sure what kind of help you are expecting to get. How much have you traded in - do you bring the same games in repeatedly? Some people can get away with that and some can't even though it isn't against any terms printed in the trade agreement (as doubledown said, it is simply up to the whims of the BB employee/store manager/district manager). I'm still trying to sort out my "trading hold" at a couple of stores. They are very nice to me about it and keep saying they will take care of it but I just think it is not a priority for them and they forget about it as soon as I leave. And I only ever traded ONE copy of Beowulf (well, 1 PS3 and 1 360 copy, anyway) to this particular store. I may contact corporate at some point, but it really isn't a big priority for me either since I've just been taking what I would have taken to BB into Gamecrazy instead. Gee, I can actually use my credit there on stuff I want - what a concept! Yeah, I can't flip in huge volume that way but I never really did that anyway.

The thing that annoys me about my "hold" is that I've never really gotten a decent explanation for it. If they are going to ban they ought to at least provide a reason for it. Yeah, I saw about 5 copies per platform a little while ago here in Denton, TX. Kinda funny since their release board says 1/8.

I also got EGM in the mail today and they gave Turok 6.5, 6.5 and 7.0. I think I'll pass for now. (not that I trust EGM or reviews in general *that* greatly, but I got lots to play already)

Just to add something to the GTA San Andreas AO version gig, I was told that if we took in the AO version of GTA eitehr PS2/Xbox we would get fired so I think its an across the company policy that we can not even trade in that game. I guess you could trick someone? There was only one GTA San Andreas Xbxo when I checked our compputers and it only fetches a couple bucks. Maybe it scans different? But like I said it seems like the AO version is a big no no for trades.
