It's that time of year... They want you to lug your games down there, deal with the crowds, and by the time you get the ridiculous price quote, you'll be so fed up you'll accept the credit just to get it over with.

I just remembered something i heard the manager at best buy say when i bought my games. He asked me if there were any more left on the shelf and when i said yes, I could swear i heard him say "We need to take those off the shelf" to the customer service girl.

I may be wrong, he may have meant something else, but it sounds fishy to me. Like they don't want to have to price match any more copies, so they'll just take them off the shelf until the CC price changes.

May I ask how you do that(Trade Account). Im 17, but do not have an account card for renting.. do you need one to trade in your games.

Some states they give you the tax of your trade-ins so he might have gotten that much if he lives in a state like that.

Probably ment 2 of each since your 127 + tax gets you to about the same number. Some states give tax credit some dont.

highly YMMV on getting the bonus $5 on the giftcards. They should allow you to buy giftcards in other demoninations if you need to split your value card into "gifts" so just ask the counter jockey if he or she could do it, and if need be, explain why you need x many $5/25/50/100 cards for your family, etc. Good luck with the extra $5 bonus cards.

There's nothing shady about trading in 23 copies of the same game at a store. That's not asking for trouble at all. So you're trading in these under your mom's account? You still need the employee to let you trade in 23 copies of the same game. If this actually works out as you planned, consider yourself one of the luckiest people on CAG.

I coudln't get any places near me to price match Monster Madness (BB and Sears). Of course TRU doesn't have any so I couldn't PM there, not even sure if they do.

While I would not go that far as to call management and report someone, it really is annoying and I know how he feels. I think this type of greed is downright contemptible. Some of us just want a copy or two to flip for the extra coin for triple AAA games, but we can't get one stinkin' copy of a game in many cases because some greedy twit bought 40 copies at 8am and cleaned out every store in a 30 mile radius. We flip games obviously because of the trade-in-value we get for low priced games, but these people clearing out entire stores of their inventory, trading in 30 copies of the same game is the height of selfishness. Leave some for other people at least, sheesh. I think this kind of me first attitude goes against why CAG exists in the first place. Even more pathetic are these people posting about their exploits like it's a badge of honor. It's almost like they take pride in being a selfish prick. All of us are capable of doing the same thing, it's just that some of us are not that selfish and have self control. It's like a career for some people to scour town for the sole purpose of flipping.

Well, he does do it to the extreme, but I really don't think he implied he was trading them all in to the same store. I think, anyway, that he is spreading them around. Still, it does seem to be excessive ;).

I struck out at Best Buy, but it actually worked out for the best. First of all, I got $20 on a gift card from Best Buy because I bought my daughter's ipod there and, luckily, saw that promo on the ad when I walked in (I don't get Best Buy ads in my paper for some reason so I had no idea beforehand of this promo). They did it all without my receipt (or the ipod) - just looked it up, returned/repurchased, handed me my card. Nice. However, they then denied the price match of the CC games because CC was closed (they called and it said they were closed). Well, I knew at 9pm they weren't closed. So I hauled myself up there the extra 10 miles preparing to be disappointed. Lo and behold, 4 copies of Monster Madness locked in the case, no indication of being on sale! I'm amazed after a full day Sunday (it was in the ad, after all) that they were still there. But that just shows you what proper labelling means for sale items ;). Anyways, 4 copies is about all I can handle - that's 1 to 4 different stores (hopefully the one GOOD Gamecrazy and 3 Blockbusters). That be enough for me - like I said before, the driving around is just getting to me. I'm too old for this kind of thing :lol:.

Note that I was composing this as atane posted - not trying to brag about my exploits :oops:. Just saying I finally had a bit of luck (finding MM at CC at 9pm Sunday) after getting denied on those Gamecrazy trade-ins the other day. So that was nice. And, actually, I'm only trading in 3 copies - I totally forgot I actually want to keep a copy of it too!

I get what you mean. Djkunai is an exception, he is hardcore and I do not have a problem with what he does at all. If he is willing to do the hard work then good for him. But 30 copies of one game is definitely greedy and he may get banned sooner rather than later for his efforts.

I think there were several people that cleared out the CC around stoned99. Remember, there are SD and FW lurkers around here that would love to jump on the gravy train.
For example, just the last flipping opportunity, a person or persons cleared out all the Beowolfs in the IE (inland empire, CA). Did I mind? Of course I did but there will be more opportunities down the road, like MM. Luckily, I bought 2 early in the morning when everyone else was fighting over the Wii.

I bought 3 MM today at CC, along with a Call Of Juarez (which I actually want to play believe it or not) Traded 2 into a local GR for Unreal Tournament III & then price matched at GC for a used Eternal Sonata. Also bought my wife a $99 Zune as well, so all and all good times ;)

I do leave games for other CAGs (abductedvision, djrage) and we hook each other up when we can, too. I coudln't get any places near me to price match Monster Madness (BB and Sears). Of course TRU doesn't have any so I couldn't PM there, not even sure if they do.

I just want one so I can get my total from 36 to 64. That would be one whole game right there...sigh

Try purchasing it from CC and showing Sears or BB the receipt. That's what it took for me to get the PM from sears. I then returned the CC copy.

Just to address your point, the one thing I do not do, is buy all the copies from a store. I may trade more than one copy of a game over the life of a deal, but I only buy 1 or 2 copies at a time from any particular GS / BB.

Here was my lesson learned, trying to pickup a few extra copies.

I got the sunday paper to get the circular on saturday and took it to sears to price match Circuit city ahead of time. They wouldn't do it (annoying), so I purchased a couple of copies at full price since I was already there to price match the next day.

So Sunday Morning I go to Circuit City and purchase the last two copies of Monster Madness; Then I go to Sears to Price Match immediately afterward; forgetting that store policy is to call and check stock at the competitors nearest location first.

Naturally, since I just purchased the last two copies at circuit city first ; They didn't have any when Sears gave them a call.

SO ANYWAY - so I ended up returning my games for full store credit at Sears and left empty handed. I still had a couple of copies from my local circuit city so it wasn't a total loss

Naturally I realize that not every employee/manager is going to follow store policy and call the competitor - nonetheless thats what I ran into.

Tomorrow is the beginning of the Extra 30% Store Credit Coupon sale, but the question is what Halo 3 is going to trade in at.

If it remains at *$35.00 +30% Coupon + 10% Edge, then I'll buy some copies from Blockbuster with my credit and trade them into my local Gamestop to have credit at a store that actually has a decent selection. No Gamerush in my area.

I was to lazy last night and I don't like to trade more than one copy at a time in anymore since I trade shit so often.. Yes it is a bit greedy/extreme what he has posted having done, however if you are in his area and really have a problem with it you should ask him to spare a few copies for you, as it is apparent he leaves some for other CAGs who communicate with him. I live in the Charlotte area and it appears to me that few if any CAGs around have been flipping, so therefore I take what I want. If someone contacts me wanting to work with me and go to different stores that would be fine, but so far no one has. On the other argument that this is why blockbuster will go out of business/stop taking gametrades/quit having deals: No one person, especially someone who spreads out the trade-ins over a few stores is going to really affect blockbuster's overall corporate policy. Even 2000 dollars is really a drop in the bucket for such a huge corporation. What really will affect blockbuster's policy is hundreds of active CAGs and lurkers flipping games all across the country 2 or more at a time. What kunai is doing affects nothing more than 10 more active flippers joining CAG.

I just traded (about an hour ago) four copies of PS3 Beowolf for $36 and two copies of Monster Madness for $28.50 (successful pricematch at Sears). No issues. I try not to do two copies of a game in one transaction, but I didn't have enough time to hit four stores today to empty the tanks, so to speak.


Also, it appears that the two GameRush stores I went to had restocks of Rock Band for both systems. I also saw a copy of the Star Wars PSP over the weekend at a GR store.

Alas, used copies of Halo 3 are among the missing. :-k

This morining my truck skid on the wet pavement and blew a tire also damaging my 18inch Rim.

I'm just baffled at the whole thing. $1100 this weekend, and although I haven't been following the whole thing, it seems like this has been going on for some time with Beowolf, so he's gotta have at least 2k, who knows, probably more than that even. Asked the CSR if they pricematched and she said yes. After she rung it up she was shocked at how much I was going to pay for the 2 games ($8)!

After that, went to a nearby Blockbuster and traded the 2 games for $57. Unfortunately, they didn't have any used Halo 3s so I'm just going to keep my credits until I get enough to buy Rock Band.

I went to one bestbuy this morning (Yorba Linda), tried to buy a bunch of games first and then do the 110% PM but manager wouldnt let me PM for the extra 10%, and under her breath told the register jockey to 'make sure that CC has those games in stock" before you PM 100%. So I left the store spending $260ish for 2 MM, 3 CoJ, 2 RS. Went to another worstbuy (Norco)and had them do the PM. Nice customer service lady went and PM no problem. With the 110% PM, games came out to $5 and $6 a piece. Went to BB/GR and traded in 2 MM, 1 RS, 1 CoJ for 88. Asked BB/GR manager about amazon giftcards and response was that they didnt have any and didnt know anything about possibly selling them ever. My plan is to trade in the 3 MM that I picked up from BB (Orange) with the remaining CoJ & RS and that should be the end of kunaiing for this calendar year. (~$70->~$220 = happy xmas).

Check that, its not laziness, most store managers still live in the era where video games never go below a certain price point. Lol, I went to a Blockbuster today with my copy of Beowulf, and when I went to the counter, the manager was there, and when I handed it to him, he gave a slight pause. He said, "Well now, there's a problem. It looks like this is a game that can be 'flipped' ". I asked him what he meant, innocently enough. He told me that you could essentially sell it, then buy it, then sell it again. It's crazy what you can do between Sunday when the price drops, and Tuesday when the trade value drops!

I always wondered what it would be like to bring a friend along. You would sell it, he'd come in and buy it back, you would sell it at another BB, he would buy it...

Had the wife drop my lsat copy of Beowulf PS3 today, since they rejected me yesterday since I traded in a ton already. I had her check into getting store credit put onto a gift card. Not only did they put it on a gift card (not a value card), she got 2 $5 bonus giftcards. So just from her trades yesterday and today, plus the $10 bonus, we have $174. I'm going tomorrow to get my $57 added, and hopefully a $5 bonus, bringing us to $236. Not too shabby for 2 days.

This doesn't include the $200+ I already flipped to GS via Halo3.

The store that I would've gone to first yesterday (had it not been 25 min before opening) ended up giving me an actual gift card, which is usable online, rather than a value card. Turned $195 in credit into $426 in credit. $231 magical out of no where credit. Of course, I then turned the $426 into giftcards making it $466, originally from $195 (originally from 6 copies of MM, which cost $42 cash). So $42 cash into $466.

Picked up a few DS Lites. BB is giving away a 4-week rental card with purchase of a DS Lite (good for 4 consecutive 1 week rentals). If anyone wants them, let me know. I don't need them.

I even got into the Christmas spirit and gave a coworker a copy of beowulf i could easily have gotten rid of without any trouble... but the more I think of it I shoulda gave him monster madness since it has lower trade value. Damn, I think I might charge him $20 instead of the 15 I said I'd give it to him for. Plus tax and inconvenience of visiting circuit city I ought to charge 30, it cost me just over 15. Thats still being in the Christmas spirit, right? Oh btw I almost forgot: djkunai, do you know if Gamestop will be lowering the trade-in value on Halo 3 tomorrow? I was just wondering lol.

95% chance it WILL change, since the used sale price has dropped. You can check, but I wouldn't count on it! There have been 1 or 2 examples in the past where they occasionally forgot to adjust the trade-in price, so it can happen, but it is highly unlikely.

I have been following this thread for a while and finally had to reply. 1st off, let me say I have taken advantage of this latest instance of flipping by turning in 4 PS3 Beowulfs (using the $10 off coupon at Best Buy of course), which I turned into 4 Halo 3's, which of course I will turn into apprx. $200 in Gamestop Credit tomorrow with the 30% trade bump coupon and edge card combo. (As long as the trade value does not drop tomorrow). Anyways, I thought it would be interesting to look at the chain of events that has resulted.......

1) A several thousand year old poem is finally made into a state of the art 3D, CG animated movie.

2) Said movie is made into a overall crappy (but better than most) movie game.

3) Said Movie Video Game drops to less than half of the original retail price (from $59.99 to $19.99), less than one month after release.

4) Meanwhile, a Best Buy coupon for $10 off any PS3 game arrives and begins to circulate the boards.

5) Over at Blockbuster, inept corporate employees fail to notice the price drop and continue to provide $36 in store credit for a crappy game that should never have offered that much in the first place.

6) Numerous CAG's take advantage of their knowledge of cheap ass games and the potential profits and bargains that can be taken advantage of due to those mentioned in #5 above.

7) Finally, Blockbuster Corporate responds. Their response you ask. Prepare yourself its HARSH!!! Drop the retail price of Beowulf to the new low price of $19.99. The new trade value you ask? STILL $36 OF COURSE!! WOHOO!! WAY TO GO BLOCKBUSTER!!

I could go into greater detail but I will stop. But lets also not forget to consider some of the other fringe benefits that existed..... Some Beowulf's had $5 movie concession cash, some members were able to get an additional $5 for every $50 put on a gift card etc. I could go on and on , but I won't.

Should I or others (Djkunai I'm talking to you) feel guilty for taking advantage of this situation.? I must say the only thing I am disappointed in is.............NOT FLIPPING MORE BEOWULFS!! This is a CLASSIC!!:lol:

Also, I told a manager about the whole Beowulf thing (I'm honest with the people who work at the store). He didn't believe me for a second, but he looked it up and actually suggested to do it. Originally I had no intention to try it (no, seriously- I didn't), but he said to go for it. Grabbed 12 copies (6 of each) and kunaied them back on all 3 accounts. Turned $195 in credit into $426 in credit. $231 magical out of no where credit. Of course, I then turned the $426 into giftcards making it $466, originally from $195 (originally from 6 copies of MM, which cost $42 cash). So $42 cash into $466.

Picked up a few DS Lites. BB is giving away a 4-week rental card with purchase of a DS Lite (good for 4 consecutive 1 week rentals). If anyone wants them, let me know. I don't need them.

Also, something else happened which I'm not going to go into details, since it's a glitch that shouldn't be exploited. Don't ask. If someone else comes across it, well, I'll speak up, but until then, sorry.

AND they let you use credit to get $5 bonus giftcards too. That is the uber deal store. You should have stayed there all day and flipped beowulf until you had a few hundred thousand in store credit. Why stop when you did. You could have ended up owning that store, lol, literally. Ok, that would definitely have involved a run in with the cops, but seriously, why stop at a few hundred. It works on all dvds that Blockbuster.com sells. Right now through 12/31 they are doing a promotion code "happyholiday20" which gets you 20% off any purchase of $50 or more. Total access members get an additional 10% off used or 5% new.

Unfortunately the shipping rates are terrible ($3.97 PER MOVIE, no matter how many you order) and they charge tax. For 1 new copy of Dog Day Afternoon (BR), Dawn of the Dead (HD), and Clockwork Orange (HD) the total came out to $72.09 shipped. While $24 a movie is steep, considering I paid around $4-8 for that credit makes it seem a little bit better. However, with the news about Amazon gift cards coming soon, I think i'm going to advise not to bite, unless you find some good deals on used items. Even if you dont want to wait for Amazon cards, my suggestion would be DS lites. These will sell near to above retail prices on ebay (or craigslist im sure) and the 4 week rental cards may boost it a few bucks (or hell, keep em for yourself).

I'd normally say just search for it, but after finding some anime at great prices on BBO, i'm in a giving mood, so i'll be helpful.

Both Sears & Best Buy have a 110% policy, they take off an additional 10% of the difference of the price.

Sears sells it for $49.99, PM price is $7.99, leaves a $42 difference. 10% of the difference ($4.20) is subtracted from $7.99 for a total of $3.79

For Best Buy I believe its a $32 difference, so the total would be 4.79.

Heres hoping the price holds up. One of the Sears i hit up supposedly has more stock according to the website (the other store i hit now shows as OOS, so maybe its a live count). I've also yet to hit up the Walmarts for pricematches.

Well, guys, as of 10:30 tonight, the last Blockbuster I hit with my final Beowulf game (PS3) told me the game is worth $9 in trade value. Looks like our fun times with Beowulf are definitely at an end. Hey, it was a great run, wasn't it?!

What happened to me was a bit unfortunate. The employee rang me up without mentioning that it'd be just $9 until after the transaction was completed. I, of course, told him I'd like my game back, but the guy said that he didn't think it was possible once the transaction was sent through in the register (as he had done just a minute beforehand). Of course, at this point a line of people renting dvds was quickly forming behind me. The employee called over the manager who said she didn't know how to reverse a trade. At this point they were talking about calling the DM, and that's when I quickly let them know that I wanted to just accept the $9 trade value. I got out of there pretty fast at that point!

In the end, I'm looking at the loss as a minor glitch in my otherwise relentlessly capitalistic system (I have probably right around $700 trade credit right now between Gamestop and BB).

Tomorrow, I'll take the SEVEN Halo 3 games (five of which I got lucky findiing at one of the Blockbuster's I visited tonight) over to seven Gamestops and collect my winnings. I sure hope that $49 price holds! If it does, I'll count my blessings and figure that my little $9 Beowulf glitch was actually very minor compared to the greatness of having seven Halo 3 games go through at $49!

Buy a bunch of stuff, and return it? Just ask them to put the credit on a card instead of back on the account. Shouldn't be a problem.

It varies on the Gamestop, some stores take only 1 of the same game, some will take 10.

Other than stuff like Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, DDR,GH, and Rock Band; the only high sellers will be all the new games, which trade for $30 ($42 after 30% + 10% edge). I know i keep saying this, but DS lites are the way to go. My regular blockbusters have started carrying them as well. Average price on Craigslist is $125, the Black, Black/Red, and White ones sell for $130-160 on ebay. The Pink ones go for $130 to most recently, $200.

Also, for those getting their credit moved to GS. If you want to make even more BB/GR credit, BB/GR pay $8 for Madden 06 (360), Gamestop sell it for $3.99 used (make sure to check the disc quality before you purchase it).

Trade value was $35 in mid october and probably still high as it's pretty new and no real drops anywhere I don't think. Yeah, I did that. Just stuck Forza in a DVD case and took the artwork out of the other case. Traded both in without issue. There's one location near me that won't take games without box art, but just go to a different store if they say that.

Well, the drop in Halo 3 was enough to make me think it wasn't worth spending all evening running around. It is funny because it isn't a huge difference, but psychologically it seems much less worthwhile to do it at a slight loss vs a slight gain like last week. So that made my family happy at least ;). I did head up to the ONE Gamecrazy in the entire area around me that actually follows the trade-in price match guarantee and traded one copy of Monster Madness there for $28.50 using the trade quote slip I got at Blockbuster yesterday. Their normal trade value is $12, so whoo-hoo and all that.

I still have another Monster Madness that I'll try taking to the ONE Blockbuster around here (out of several) that will maybe let me buy gift cards with the $5 bonus.

I also went to Target because there had been word of a new round of drops (and many of djkunai's last price quotes were clearly from Target clearance games ;)) but of course the store which had been filled to the brim with all those titles last week was wiped clean today. Oh well...

Edit - I'll have to try the Sears thing. It just seems that every time I try to do price matches they find some reason to shoot me down. Either they check stock at the store they are matching (which of course is always out) or something... I can't see how you guys are getting Sears to give you 3-4 copies at once. It seems they would limit you to one if nothing else. Frankly, I'm surprised at how bold some of you are with your dealings :lol:. When I was at Best Buy the other day and they couldn't get a hold of CC, they "counteroffered" 25% off on the ONE copy of MM I was trying to price match. They said 80% off was a no way no go! I got $8 for nba live 06 traded at bb yesterday, I think all ea sports titles 06 may be that value (for 360). Every year before that is last gen so probably terrible trade in value. Also, IO I had difficulty pming at Best Buy Sunday as well. I tried to get 4 copies and this girl was an ass about it, called CC and said their computers were down there so they couldn't see inventory. IMO she was just lying to me so I would leave her the hell alone. I didnt put up a fight and left quietly but in hindsight should have because they basically refused to honor pm policy without any real reason. When I went to different Best buy picked up 2 copies and went to sears and got 2 copies no problem pming at either. Some employees/managers cover their ass a lot more than others while some are nice to customers and honor their company's policy. All depends on luck.

I keep missing out on all these trade deals...I may have to hit up SEARS around here. At least they have an online invnetory tracker...although, some call around and see that the games are not readily available at CC.

I'm up to like $240 in credit with MINIMAL flipping (2 Beowulf, 1 MM, 1 Red Steel).

What do I buy next though? Already have a PS3, 360 Elite, PSP (fat one), Wii. No interest in the DS as I barely play my PSP. I would upgrade that, but not worth it to me (although, my local BB did have the Star Wars edition).

Saved time and gas, was able to use Blockbuster credit for two Guitar Hero 3's for the Wii. Quickly flipped onto ebay and both sold with an hour. Priced to sell and get cash for the credit i used.
Better option than taking the $6(on each) hit plus time and gas trying to flip 4 Halo 3's.

Still have $130 left at Blockbuster.
Might try to find one more, keep the credit off the value cards.

I'm glad that my local WalMart matched the CC ad with no hassle. I was expecting it that's for sure. They let me match 2 MM's because that's all they had otherwise, I'd have gotten 3 more.

My Best Buy matched the CC Monster Madness price as well. I was actually surprised because they usually call to make sure it's in stock (which, of course, it wasn't). Guess with it being pretty busy with the holiday rush, they didn't want to bother. Picked up two copies.

The controls are a touch floaty, but not as bad as some others. Unfortunately, I don't have a PS3 yet, but I may build my credit for one. If they ever come out with a WRC 6 I'll definitely get one! Importing the WRC series was the sole reason of me getting onto ebay and it was well worth it. I should take my european WRC 5 into BB and ask for trade in value just to watch them go around in circles.

A little more on topic, XBLA Unplugged is 3.97 at Sears. I thought about buying a couple copies, using the one month live code and trading the games in, but they're not in my GR's computer when I called and not in the wiki. I also don't know if the credit was on my "account" or on gift cards. Any way to tell whats going on wihout going back into the store and possibly creating a sceene? Even if I just wanted to go in to buy some stuff I have a feeling they'll try to bust my balls over this.

I would think that BB will not allow you to trade anymore. However, BB cannot take your credit away. You should go into BB and put the in-store credit onto a Value and shop at a BB that you feel better about. Besides, trading two of the same game at different locations is not flipping. Heck, trading two games at one location is not considered flipping according to BB.

If you have a balance due to blockbuster, you should make sure they are not sending you to collections. not good to have your credit score ruined over some $10 late fee. but if you went in and your 'old' account card still works, you are probably lucky and didnt owe them money in the first place. on the other hand, I personally do not know what blockbuster does if you have a positive credit balance on your account and have not used if for months or years. I know for a fact that one worker there got busted for using credit from people's accounts to buy stuff for himself. he got caught and fired. hopefully they refunded the stolen credit, and fortunately, I had all my credit on value cards so it didnt affect me.
