Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki (http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/GameRush_trade_in_values).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3517512#post3517512).

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reported Trade-In Prices (http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/GameRush_trade_in_values)

Trade-In Price Wiki (http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/GameRush_trade_in_values) <--- Trade-In Prices are now kept here.

We now have a trade-in price Wiki that will be easier to keep up to date. All recent trade-in prices will be listed here (http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/GameRush_trade_in_values) along with the date they were reported. Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Trade-in prices generally change on Tuesdays.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game Pass

Rent unlimited games for a month. You can have one game (or 2 depending on the pass) out at a time and can return it whenever you want and switch it out as many times as you want.

$21.99 for 1 Game

http://www.gamerush.com/rules_gamepass.php click this link to find out about gamepass at Gamerush.

You must have a credit card/check card to signup. Checkcard must be visa, mc, amex, dc, or diners club. You can also do it by getting a prepaid visa, mc, dc or amex card with at least $1 on it so it will clear the authorization and just pay for it each month (very tedious though). You can cancel at any time. Good on any rental game (gamecube, psp, nds, gba, xbox, ps2).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GAMERUSH WEBSITE

This should have alot of stuff so please just search around the website before asking questions. Website updates happen but most deals are in effect way before they are updated on gamerush.com so check in the thread for the newest deals.

Sweet, if I saw that I'd buy it. Unfortunately the one I went to just yesterday did not have it. They had all 3 versions of NBA Live 08 though . I added it to the OP. This is exactly what I (personally) want to see in this thread, in addition to trade-in prices of course. Now I know it is worth checking out a few regular stores when I'm out and about (and making sure I have my Value card with me at the time).

The only bad thing is that I had to actually use my credit card to pay for about half since they kept telling me that my gift card had no credit on it. I go to the BB I last used the card and they tell me that I still have $50 on it......:bomb:

I don't know if it was a simple mistake or if the cashier was just being an asshole.

If you're keeping track of what new games stores carry, our store got in a copy of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS). Although I'm not too sure why. We haver NEVER carried DS games for rent or sale before. Nonetheless, I quickly bought it up with my discount. Hopefully the quick sale will lead to more DS games in the future. Stores should also have PGR4 (360). I'll do my best to start informing everyone of the weekly price drops (no promises though).

edit: Game Pass info- There should also be a 2 at a time game pass for 3?.99. I forget the actual price but I believe it is 31.99.

Certain BB giftcards are really stupid like that. The majority work good, but there's one type in particular that when you check the balance by sliding the card or scanning the barcode will say no balance (or not activated), but if they manually type in the giftcard #, it'll work just fine. I really hate those GC's. :bomb:

I called and asked if they got a Wii in and she says nope but we have had one in the back for a while now actually... ~Keep in mind this is the same store that told me saturday afternoon that they had one so that evening I made the 25 minute drive to be greated with 2 employees saying they sold it a few days ago and they have no Wii~ I ask her to please go physically look for it and told her why and she laughed and went and found it and held it till I got there. Turns out one of the people who told me they didn't have a Wii that night was a store manager..... Keep up the good work ya jackass! :D

What I was trying to do was quote your question about where the coupon thread was and then say the following, but I somehow deleted your post in the process. Not intended!

What I was trying to say in response:

I was going to let someone else do it (make a coupon ramifications discussion thread) as I don't want to have anything to do with it. Anyone having issues with what happened should make a thread in the Deal/Shopping Discussions & Bragging Rights forum about it. If and when that happens, I will put a link here and at the end of the old thread.

Excellent job io. Are all the mods called Thread Guides now?

No. We're more like sub-mods. We being Sp00ge, EvilMax17, me (all in VG Deals), and Foladar (in Referral Central). Expect more to be announced sooner or later, particularly in the system forums.

But the uber-mods still retain their status. I can only mess with stuff in the Deals forum. The uber-mods have free reign ;).

In any case, to stay on topic, I will update all those prices from djkunai in a minute.

I'll probably be in this thread a little more than I have before seeing as I -just- realized there was a GameRush store within 15 minutes of me. I had no idea.

Picked up LOTR - BFME (360) used for $6.99 today at a regular Blockbuster. Liked the demo for it a long time ago, and $7 seems like a great price for an underrated time-waster.

My local non-GR also had at least one copy of Hourglass. They also had Spider-Man: Friend or Foe for most platforms (not sure if it is 'all', since I didn't know which ones I should have looked for).

Somewhat unrelated, over the weekend I picked up a Simpson's Etch-a-Sketch on clearance for $7.50 for my brother-in-law.

Anyone have any idea if the stores with Gamerushes will be getting copies of Beautiful Katamari? I have a couple by me and it seems that none of them got any more than one copy of The Orange Box per store and I'm sure Katamari is getting a less wide release than that. I'm trying to decide if I want to pick it up at Fry's or wait and hope to burn a little Gamerush credit on it.

When my GR was around I would not have counted on them getting it, but who knows - some people seem to have competant GR stores. But what you could do is buy it now at Fry's and if it comes in to GR in the next week or so pick up another copy and return the sealed one to Fry's. Also, they ought to be able to tell you at GR if they even have copies on order (for sale as opposed to rent). If not, no need to bother with them. If they DO have them on order, it doesn't mean they will get them, but it's a start.

Story-time.

I bought the game at $7. Unfortunately, it's scratched beyond belief and doesn't work. I tried to exchange it, but they didn't have any more and $7 was a price mistake (according to the girl, someone switched the stickers). The stickers correspond to LOTR - Two Kings (XBOX).

Moral of the story - they're not $7. They're actually $19.99 used, and though I almost had a great deal, a scratched disc ruined it. At least I got the $7 back.

I wasn't commenting on the quality of Starbucks products, (I don't drink coffee myself) I'm just saying from a business standpoint it would need to be a major brand connected to BB if they're hoping to draw customers.

In any case, I was calling one anyway, and they quoted me $35 for :360: Hour of Victory.

Also, the :360: Godfather game is supposedly $25. That is the second store to quote that price, but it seems pretty high to me. It's on the clearance schedule at Target. I will likely try to trade it in this weekend to confirm.

YES! The answer I was hoping for!!! They dropped the price to $25 at Gamestop (used), so if it wasn't for Gamerush's reasonable trade-in prices it would be going back to them... And even better, Gamerush is closer!:bouncy:

If anyone is planning to overcome the inherent embaressment and flip this title, you should do so before GR updates their prices - the $19.99 price of the title on Amazon might be indicitive of a universal price drop.

Yes, Hour of Victory is $25 used at gamestop (22.50 with edge card). I assume anyone who ever owned the game will eventually trade it somewhere, so there's a good chance your local store may have them. I'm only speculating that Gamerush may lower the trade-in price soon- but they have been known to maintain trade-in prices despite a game dropping in price in most other stores.

Off to go trade it in now......

So I had a chance to go tonight, and as I suspected, that quote was wrong. Godfather for the 360 gets $15, not $25.

Also confirmed the following as of tonight:
:360: Open Season - $19
:360: Perfect Dark Zero - $8
:ps3: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - $16

Was really hoping Godfather was actually 25 as I'm hoping to flip some games for Cod4 and there's a bunch around. CoD2, Outfit and XBLA unplugged should drop to 5 and Call of Juarez and Homecourt should drop to 15 and Tomb Raider and Bionicle should drop to 7.50 @ Target assuming copies can still be found when they hit 75% off. If CoD2 is actually 15 as the wiki states then 5 to 15 is great considering everybody already has it and it might hang around until it hits 5.

The only caveat would be to buy and sell them back to the same store within a short time period. They can view your trade history and like they did in my case decide your flipping for profit. Of course I'm not aware of any buy/sell scenarios at BB that would actually net you a profit. (Not like to good old days of trade 3 get 1 game for 5$)

As far as I know the trading history is not even linked between stores. I just wouldn't worry about it.

Think this was mentioned in another thread, but The Darkness also gets $35 at GR. Not too shabby if you buy 2 copies at EB for around $40 (with B1G1 50 percent coupon) and then flip for $70 credit.

Good to know. I was able to find an EB with two copies of HoV to use that coupon, but I was in at least two others that only had one.

Considering I've seen everything I've wanted to buy within release week at BB/GR lately, and my niece is going to have a Very Merry DS Christmas, I don't have a problem converting up the credit to be even closer to pennies on the dollar.

I'd really like to know if GR is going to get the Mass Effect limited edition. That whole "select retailers" is frakkin' annoying.

Just so everyone knows, the policy at GameRush is that they can't accept more than 2 copies of the same game for trade in. However this is per store, so if you have more than one GameRush near by you can flip more.

Also, YMMV depending on if you get the manager or the new girl.

I got lucky at one of my local Blockbusters. They mispriced four copies of Bioshock at $24.99 each (instead of $49.99). Had to get the manager to override the price in the register, but I snagged all four. Let's do the math...

3 copies of HOV: $16.24 x 3 = $48.72 @ EB/GS

Trade in 3 copies of HOV @ BB = 3 x $35 = $105

Buy 4 mispriced copies of Bioshock from BB using HOV credit = 4 x $24.99 = $99.96 in BB credit

Trade in 4 copies of Bioshock at EB/GS = 4 x $27 = $108

Buy 6 copies of The Darkness at EB/GS with Bioshock credit = 6 x $17.54 = $105.27

Trade in 6 copies of The Darkness at BB = 6 x $35 = $210

The only time I spent cash out of pocket was at the beginning, buying HOV at EB/GS. After that I was strictly using credit.

I turned $48.72 cash into $215 in BB credit, with a few bucks of leftover credit at EB/GS to boot. All because an employee mispriced Bioshock :) BTW, I checked around at a lot of other BB to find another mispriced copy to keep for myself...no luck.

:360:
The Darkness - $35
Hour of Victory - $35

My store does the extra $5 for 3 or more games, that's $40 to my ears.

Here's a link to Hour of Victory for $20 (http://www.amazon.com/Midway-30118-Hour-Of-Victory/dp/B000O5DPJE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-4898508-5655168?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1193159638&sr=8-1) (shipped free if you buy more than two, or have Amazon Prime).

Buy 2 for $40 and then flip both of them for $70 in credit- a 75% return in credit profit. If you do buy, you should receive them on Thursday, and the price won't drop until next Tuesday. Enjoy!

Only had time 2 hit the 4 closest EBs very 1st stop i found about 1000 copies of the Darkness and 1 HoV so I got 3 Dark and 1 HoV. Last 3 stores found nothing but piles of the Darkness...

Traded in my pile for $148.20 credit which cost me 73.52 cash. :D

Thanks for the link to the Hour Of Victory 2 new copies are only like $7.50 + tax more than 2 used though IF you can even find um in stock. Looking at my receipts they do it weird they give you the edge discount off the full price before they take the 50% off... so 50% copy ends up being 9.99 and full price 22.50. EDIT: Looks like estimated ship date is Oct 29th...

ALSO asked while I was trading and they already have the $500 Motorstorm 80gb PS3 bundles in stock. They had 3 of them for sale and the guy knew about and is expecting the $400 40gb Spiderman bundles as well. :D

I didn't do anything but trade in copies of Hour Of Victory and The Darkness.

Make sure you use the B1G1 50% Off coupon for EB/GS when you buy those games used. The prices if you buy two copies at a time using the coupon are as follows (EDGE discount included):

2 x Hour Of Victory = (2 x $24.99 x .9) - ($24.99 x .5) = $32.48

2 x The Darkness = (2 x $26.99 x .9) - ($26.99 x .5) = $35.08

The Darkness + Hour Of Victory = (($26.99 + $24.99) x .9) - ($24.99 x .5) = $34.28

The best option (which is also the hardest to find) is two copies of Hour Of Victory, which will net you a 115.5% return on your cost.

The worst option (which is the easiest to find) is two copies of The Darkness, which will net you 99.5% return on your cost.

I got lucky in one store because I was able to use my Blockbuster credit to buy mispriced copies of Bioshock, which I traded in to buy more copies of The Darkness to trade in. That is why my percentage return is a little higher than normal. But 100% return is nothing to laugh at either.

Basically, I have enough credit to buy any new/used game I want from Blockbuster at 50% off or more. I already bought Gears Of War; $44.99 used at Blockbuster, which translates to $22.49 out of pocket.

Well, he's right. $26.99.
I stand corrected.

Interesting story, BTW. It might have to do with the difference between "franchise" and "corporate" stores.

I only trade in one copy of any game at any BB. Yesterday, when I went into my local BB, the manager confronted me about my trading habits.

She somehow knew that I had traded in the same two games at her store AND the BB 4 miles down the road. Someone mentioned in this thread that they don't have the ability to track trade accounts between stores, so my guess is that she took it upon herself to investigate my trading habits at the neighboring store. Perhaps both stores are owned by the same franchisee?

She really didn't accuse me of anything either, except to say that my trading habits look "fishy" and that I might be investigated by BB's fraud prevention department. When I trade in 2 copies of a game I always use my cousins as an excuse. I have a lot of cousins and each of them is spoiled and needs their own copy of the game, because they each have X360s. They also compete to see who can get achievements faster in a limited amount of time, and then trade the games in.

Of course they are too young to have a trading account, so my aunt begs me to do it for them all the time.

If games weren't stolen, then there's nothing to worry about anyways. You legally owned the games and traded them in.

Hit the last 2 local EBs today (good to have 6 total within 12 miles of my house) grabbed:

-RE4 Wii - for mii :D
-HoV x2
-Darkness PS3 x3

out of pocket total - 107.80
Gamerush credit - 188.68 + RE4 Wii for mii :D

RE4 kinda killed my ratio if i'd got another $35 game i'd been at $225 credit and $.48 on the dollar. Oh well sacraficing $35 GR credit is better than spending $25 out of my pocket later. I ended up with $.57 one the dollar plus a free game today...

I know of a few locals but not sure if they GR or not... Alexandria Gamestop I didn't go to or call the other NKY stores have no more used HoV and no store had more than 1 copy to begin with.

They're not quite as vigilant as they were in the heyday, but watch out for some of the vigilante managers. They have and are not afraid to ban people for trading in multiple copies of games that happen to fetch generous trade in values. It's happened numerous times, and regardless of whether or not you own the games. Like any private business, Blockbuster/Gamerush has the right to refuse service to anyone (trading in this case specifically). If you guys need a reminder, check out some of the earlier GR threads from April until August of 2005.

One last thing (although I think everyone does this anyways), make sure all your credit is put onto gift cards. Some GR managers were known to erase credit (disregarding legality since they kept your games) if any credit was found on your specific account. From what I remember, any credit transfered to a gift card is secure.

FoxHoundADAM

Honestly I don't blame managers fo being wary of people trading in multiple copies of games. Heck some of you here are posting your "great hauls" which consist of multiple game flips and while legal is borderline immoral. I'm not going to preach that you shouldn't do it but I pesonaly don't flip games.

With that said if a manager thinks you are abusing the system then more power to them for trying to maintain a profitable buisiness.

Yeah, but it sounded like she was threatening him on a legal level by referring to the fraud prevention dept. Banning is always an option, but if the games were legitly purchased and traded in under BB's policies, there is no fraud. It's on the store to reject multiple trade-ins.

Not that I'm blaming managers for doing their jobs, but I fail to see how Blockbuster is a "profitable business" at this point and time. They're financial problems stem from a CEO (John Antioco) who knew shit about the movie business, taking forever (thus allowing Netflix to ultimately capitalize) to enter the home delivery market, and eliminating late fees (removing any incentive for people to return their movies in a timely manner).

In addition, they managed to lose over one billion dollars worth of market value for three consecutive years (2002-2004 I believe). The question now is whether or not Blockbuster will even exist in a B&M form five to ten years in the future. All of this means that vigilant managers are trying to squeeze a few more minutes and hours into the lifespan of Blockbuster.

Only way you can do that is if you purchase something from Blockbuster/Gamerush and than trade it in at EB?Gamestop, seeing as there 2 different companies. <rest of comment deleted by io>

I think he knows that and was asking if there were any good transfer games/items (buy at GR, trade at EB). Unfortunately, without some sort of GR sale combined with an EB/GS trade-in promo, there usually aren't many opportunities. I guess there is the extra $10 for 2 360 games at EB/GS right now. I have completely failed to take advantage of that and feel like turning in my CAG credentials as a result ;).

As for the rest of your comment, even though it was subtle, I removed it - no discussion of that sort of thing allowed on here please.

I just spent my extended lunch break converting about $130 credit at Gamestop into $280 at Blockbuster. I had to cancel a couple of my GS pre-orders to free up some credit, then bought lots of Hour of Victory and The Darkness (360 and PS3), then hit 3 Blockbusters in my area. I got ballsy with the last one and traded in two PS3 and one 360 copy of The Darkness (and they took all 3).

I just picked up 3 Copies of The Darkness (360) and one Hour of Victory except that one of the Darkness disks has a couple of scratches on it and the others light ones all over.

Does anyone know how picky GR is about the condition of games that you trade in? They don't have to be perfect do they?

I don't have to go back and exchange it for a better copy I hope.

I just Trade-in (2 copies) Bioshock and Gear of War (LE) for $95.15 after taxes. I still have 2 copies Halo 3 and Bioshock... I'll keep Bioshock & trade-in 2 copies Halo 3 at GS/EB for $40 each possible they gimme extra 30% toward Rockband :)

Yeah, but it sounded like she was threatening him on a legal level by referring to the fraud prevention dept. Banning is always an option, but if the games were legitly purchased and traded in under BB's policies, there is no fraud. It's on the store to reject multiple trade-ins.

Back when I was banned I was told the same thing by the DM, "we're referring this the fraud deplartment", I just laughed at him. It was a stupid comment meant to intimidate. If you have been banned at 1 store, just trade at another, the systems are not connected in any way. I didn't back read this thread, but if this is related to the 5/25 coupon, you can hardly be surprised that they are pissed, I have pushed my luck in the past, but that was so clearly wrong I choose to avoid it as I knew it would only end in tears.

Just want to point out that "Flipping" is not buying from store A and selling at Store B, but rather buying from BB under promotion A, to sell back to BB for a profit. Don't forget the money you collect ultimately is spent at BB, and their typical markup is 20% so unless you're actually stealing from them, there is no real harm, they just don't make as much off of you.

People can look at it different ways. Blockbuster doesnt know how you got your games, so they dont know if there buying "hot" merchandise or not. One of my local FYEs stopped doing trade-ins because of this. And Ive heard of others doing the same thing. Sure exploiting a good deal is great, but if too many people do it I wouldnt be surprised if Blockbuster and Gamerush stopped doing trade-ins.

Thats why you have to have a trading account, for which they've collected all you personal information. Pawn shops have had to deal with this for ever, and trading is just another form of pawn exchange. If they suspect theft, they refer you to the police. They have no liability if they accept stolen goods, unless you actually admitted it too them, and then they still completed the trade.

Most people with stolen goods are not going to trade for store credit, they are going to unload on FYE or EB for cash.

Their trade agreement even allows for multiple copies of a single game, but it's always based upon manager approval, so always ask if it's ok before doing it. I think these kind of trading arrangements are really long term so treat them like something you want to keep around. Like I said before the 5/25 deal was obviously a royal raping for BB, and those ppl who did it multiple times can't complain, they painted a big red target on themselves.

Some Updates for the Wiki in red:

I can't wait for a CAG kind of deal on Call of Duty 4 so I'm going to do some trading in to make it cheaper. Called GR today and got the following quotes all for 360:

The standard KMart fodder all held their values:

Open Season 19
Phantasy Star Universe 12
Tomb Raider Legend 12
Bionicle 15
Cabela Alaska 15

Checked some others that are 50% off at my Best Buy's YMMV clearance (YMMV, although most Best Buys in the area are doing clearance with many of the same games):

Tony Hawk Project 8 15
Call of Duty 3 15 (regular edition)
DOAX2 28.50

Hopefully DOAX2 is 15 after discount as the others are since there was no price tag.

Possible trade ins from Target if they hit 75% off, ie: $5:

Call of Duty 2(didn't specify GOTY) 12
The Outfit 10

Also, All Pro Football should drop as low as 7.50 at Target which is in the wiki for 15 and Call of Juarez should drop as low as 15 and is in the wiki for 35.

BTW, my GR said CoD4 is in the system as arriving on 11/9, but is not available for preorder yet because the store doesn't have an order on it yet.

Halo 3 (New) $59.99
XBOX 360 Wireless Controller (New) $49.99
Snakes On A Plane (Used) $3.99
Lumines (Used) $9.99

Star Trek $12

The employee did the + $5 for 3 games or more. So I got almost $120 credit for like $40 cash down. Now I know GR will have either Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero III, or Assassins Creed. I should be good for a few months now.

Hmmm... I have some extra Kmart games I might want to trade in if I can get triple on them. I still don't know what to do with the credit, but that's hard to pass up... No CAGs seem to want them as they are fairly easy to get. It's easier to trade them in than return them.

If worse comes to worse I can use the credit for donations. My youngest son is in a community preschool that has a big Spring auction and every parent is required to come up with $150 in merchandise from local retailers to donate to the auction. Both me and my wife are miserable at soliciting from people like that (also, it seems every other person in the world has family connections to businesses - not us) so last year I just used $150 in Blockbuster credit as my donation - got 3 $50 gift cards with my existing credit. I get to claim it as a tax credit to boot. I'll probably end up doing the same this year.

Updating the wiki now...

I stopped by 4 Gamestops today. The first two didnt have any copies of HoV so i tried 2 Darkness'. They turned me down making some bullshit about 'no sellers' (i told them im stocking up for christmas gifts). They then said they could sell them to me, but not with the coupon. What a load of shit. If i was some hoity toity old hag they'd have no problem selling two of the same game to me, even with the coupon. I got the manager's name and i'll give corporate a call tomorrow (not really expecting to get anything out of it, but since i have long hair and havent shaved in 2 days, i could play the prejudice card).

Luckily the next two stores had both HoV & The Darkness. The manager at one of the stores is a cute nerdy redhead  who put a new sticker on my Edge card since my old one was faded. So, at least the night had a good ending.

All the Blockbusters by me had GH3 in stock for all systems, unfortunately they were the game only versions.

Went to a regular BB tonight and traded Lego Bionicles and Star Trek Legacy that I just got at the nearby Kmart for $27 total (cost $10.71 to purchase). For some reason I thought Star Trek got more (only $12 - yes I checked the Wiki before leaving but for some reason marked it as 'worth it' when it really wasn't). I wouldn't have traded it if I knew that but once I handed it over I figured I might as well. I can get more ;). They said all Blockbusters today were having trouble with Value Cards and they couldn't get the credit on there, so it is sitting on my account, which I don't like one bit. I'll have to go back later and get it. They also said they don't have Value Cards any more and wouldn't be getting more.

This is the store that has a few new games and I did see Zelda Phantom Hourglass. Who knew? (I mean, I know other people here said they had it, but who knew they would have a DS game for sale ahead of time like that when they don't even rent them?). I really wish I knew in advance what games they were going to get for sale because I'd definitely pick some up there. In all the confusion with the Value Card I forgot to ask that. I did ask if the games are new/sealed because they have gutted displays on their tiny new game rack. They did say they were sealed so that's nice - score one over EB/GS/GC on that account ;). Now I'm thinking maybe they'll have Mass Effect or the Simpson's game. They said they don't sell much there but they were able to sell out their Halo 3s. They also had Spiderman Friend or Foe for 360 and PS2. Go figure . I'll add all these to the OP.

I went to 2 GR+BBV tonight and both had signs up saying that they their credit/debit card systems were down and they could only accept cash. I wonder if it's related to your BBV Value Card problem? I was able to get the credit onto my VC though, and it went through around 8PM ET tonight, but this was at BBVs connected to GRs.

I haven't been to GR since I transferred all my credit to GC, but the 360 trade-in values were too good to pass up.

I saw that they had opened, "new" games, but thankfully they were just those display cases (like what TRU has). It's good to see that some BBVs have Zelda PH. I'll be looking to pick that up and some Wii games.

They said they were having problems with both credit/debit and Value Cards. They said it either didn't work or took a long time. This was at 9:30 pm Pacific, but they said they had problems all day. I'm sure it is related though. I wanted them to try it again but they didn't want to... Oh well, I'll just have to swing back there again. If I plan on buying any new games there I can just leave the credit I suppose. But that always makes me nervous. I don't think they'd "adjust" my credit there like the old GR manager did one time (taking away $15 after I had signed off on the trades because one of his employees messed up), but, well, I'd just rather have it on the card. However, the cards seem to be acting flaky recently so I'm not so sure they are safe either. Last time I traded at my local store they couldn't deal with my card either and ended up giving me cash . But I was able to use the card in the mean time to buy something...

I've got a question for those familiar with purchasing game stuff at BB/GR with value cards. I'm saving up credit via the HoV and The Darkness trade-ins and building up my value card, in the hope of ultimately getting a 360 (don't have one). So my question is, when purchasing things with the trade-in credit on a value card, are you still charged taxes? I know at Gamestop that you aren't charged tax if you pay with trade-in credit. Blockbuster does things in reverse. When you trade in a game, say it has a $30 value. They give you $30 + tax in credit so you get like $31.84 or whatever, depending on your local tax rate.

Then when you buy something they still charge you tax and it's all a wash. Hope that helps...

The tax refund only applies to certain states (I seem to remember Indiana being one, but I'm not sure). It does not work that way in most locations. You get the trade value as stated, and you are charged tax when you buy something.

The GB/EB 'no tax when using store credit' thing appears to have ended, at least in Florida - I shop in multiple stores/counties, so it isn't something specific to a store or city. According to one of the employees, they changed that policy in the system sometime in August/September. I checked some receipts, and it appears to have happened about the time or just before Eternal Sonata being released (it's the earliest receipt I had on hand when I checked).

They said all Blockbusters today were having trouble with Value Cards and they couldn't get the credit on there, so it is sitting on my account, which I don't like one bit.

That's weird b/c yesterday I went to 3 BB and they all had the CASH ONLY sign up yet they were able to give me the credit on the VC with no problem. Furthermore, the last one I went to said I couldn't purchase anything with it unless I had opted to leave it in my account instead of putting it on the VC. They could put credit on VCs but couldn't pay w/it b/c it processes like a credit/debit card.

A quick note to flippers, the EB/GS B1G1 50% coupon expires today.

If you want to double your money (e.g. buy Blockbuster credit for $.50 on the dollar), make sure you stock up on copies of Hour Of Victory (X360) and The Darkness (X360, PS3) today.

Here's what I'm planning on doing today:

Buy 4 x The Darkness (X360) @ EB/GS = $70.16 cash
Trade 4 x The Darkness (X360) @ BB = $140 credit
Buy The Orange Box (New, X360), Gears Of War (Used, X360), & GRAW 2 (Used, X360) = $140 credit ($70.16 cash / $23.38 per game)

On a side note, I wonder what Blockbuster is going to do with all those copies of HOV and Darkness? My local store still has copies of Enchanted Arms collecting dust on the shelf (thanks to me).

That makes sense, what doesn't is the person I was responding to who was told they couldn't be given credit on their VC and instead the credit had to be placed on his/her account in the meantime.

UNLESS your store does the $5/3 extra, where you would get $40 for the 360 version and $36 for PS3 (because PS3 games don't count for the bonus);

It's a lot harder to find the PS3 version in my neck of the woods. The used game selection for X360 games at my local EB/GS is at least 10x bigger than the used PS3 game selection.

Yeah, well they scanned mine and it didn't work. I'm wondering if my Value Card has issues. It is the one I used for a certain something last week and now I'm nervous about it ;).

As for the whole tax thing, even though it is moot to me (here in OR), kojubat pretty much covered it. But to give one wierd example, one time when I was in DC I was trading in some cheap TRU stuff (Flatout 2 for Xbox was one - remember that one? ;)). I went to a regular BB in both MD and VA. In VA I got the extra tax added on and in MD I didn't.

ShaJay - the only way you can have different trade-in prices is if
1) They looked up the wrong game (entirely possible as they do it manually when you call).
2) The oddball prices were from franchise stores, which can price stuff any way they want.

If it is a corporate store the prices will be what everyone here is saying. They don't adjust prices down like Gamecrazy if they get too many of a certain title.

I just tried to do the whole HOV deal. Turns out I was a little suspicious when I used my coupon for two copies of Hour of Victory (didn't have much choice since I only have two GS/EB near me, and it was the only one with HOV). I also found out you can only use one coupon ever, so I was only able to use it on that. When I showed up at the other GameStop, apparently the other store called over or something, because the guy told me since I used it at the other store, I couldn't again (he didn't even look at the computer).

So, I went over to Blockbuster with my two copies of HOV, traded them in, and got $74.90! I paid $34.75 for both copies of HOV, so I made over $40 in credit alone. Pretty damn good considering the great games like Mass Effect, CoD4, and Assassin's Creed coming out. I may wait and see if BB has a Black Friday special or something. I put it into a gift card, so maybe I can even trade it online for a GameStop card. I'm also going to try and get my friend to use the coupon today before it expires.

Putting trade-in credit on a value card is written ON THEIR trade-in agreement.

If ANY Blockbuster employee gives you trouble about putting credit on a value card, ask them for a copy of their trade-in agreement (or show them the copy you were given when you opened your trade account) and point out the part that says credit can be put on a value card at the customer's request.

They did tell me at the store where my value card wouldn't work that they don't carry Value Cards any more and I was "lucky" to have one. However, it is pretty damn useless if it stops working for trades. I haven't gone back to try to get the rest of my credit yet.

But such a policy wouldn't surprise me. It would also make trading into Blockbuster a lot less useful. For example, my local store does not carry any new games, so I would never need to spend money there. The one that gave me problems with the card has a few, so I *might* spend some money there. But I'd really rather be able to carry the card with me if and when I ever travel to somewhere with a Gamerush and buy stuff there. In any case, I want the credit portable so I can either buy the 1 or 2 games I might find at a regular BB or save it for GR (or even trade it with CAGs).

Called about this copy Of MotoGp i've had laying here debating on trying it or just taking back to Kmart. I sucked at the demo and it's gonna get lost in my ever growing backlog of soon to be 4 systems games. I also asked about Oblivion since someone here had wondered plus I got a copy from the super duper "thing" from last week and thats a ton of play hours in my backlog...

Anyway here's the beef:
:360: Oblivion - $15
:360: MotoGP 06 - $8
:ps2: slim system - $40 (gonna keep it though and just get 40gb PS3)

Wait, so GR still takes in systems?

How does the Walmart 3 pack stack up at GameRush?

X360: Cars, Fuzion Frenzy 2, and OpenSeason.

Cars: ?
Fuzion Frenzy 2: $15?
Open Season: $19

Seriously, I posted these values on the previous page. Noob.

D'oh! I missed that too - too many threads to check on these days and sometimes I don't go back a page if I think I've already read it (since so many of the posts here are the same ;)).

Anyway, so Cars is $8 - my guess of $7 wasn't too bad. That's strange of even GR to offer $8 for something they sell for $15 though. My point holds: $30 -> $42 is not worth it to me, especially if the funds need to sit at whatever store I traded them in to.

Now, Lego Bionicles at Kmart for $4.90 -> $15 is a much better deal ;).

And I'm leaving it to you to update the Wiki for prices in this thread. Hope you don't mind.

Yes, very much a n00b. I even read the post earlier. GR had better have gotten in my GH3 bundle today...

It also states in the trade agreement that terms are subject to change without notice so that wouldn't work my good friend. Actually that goes for your account with Blockbuster all together, too.

OK, don't bite my head off. :) Here are some values from today to show that they are still holding.

All 360
Superman Returns $15
Bionicle $15
PSU $12
Open Season $19
Amped 3 $19
Cabelas Alaskan $15
Eragon $12

Disgaea 2 PS2 $19

So, approx $50 for $126 credit. And they had no problem putting it on a card. :)

Damn, Cabela's Alaskan & Bionicle are looking like a hot flip from K-Mart. Gotta get some cred built up for Manhunt 2! *Big assumption that GR will get it in* I guess I'll try grabbing those, with one Open Season, should just about cover me.

Wait, so GR still takes in systems?
Yes I asked over the phone this morning plus asked again tonight at another store on my way home from work and they do give $40 for the Slim PS2. He had to get a binder out that had all the accessory codes in it to look up the price that way though where usually they just typoe it in the computer. I was talking with the night manager and he said that this store was soon going to "Gamerush Lite" and would probably stop taking system trades and probably getting less new games and hardware to sell..... He didn't know all the details but knew it was coming.

I'll buy MotoGP from you for cost + shipping + whatever. Shoot me a PM if you want. I can't find that one at any kmart around here.
Sorry I had it with me and traded it on my way home from work tonight. If i'd seen your post in time it would have been yours. Would have rather you had it than make just a buck trading it to Gamerush.

I hate waiting and it's really a better deal PLUS it's all credit anyway so I picked up the 80gb PS3 Motorstorm bundle tonight. I can trade in my PS2 for $40 + Motorstorm I was going to buy this week anyway at EB for $25 (40% off local sale) so basically it was just $40 more for double the HD (versus the $400 Spiderman 3 bundle i was gonna get) and backwards compatibility. The look on the kids face was priceless when I kept pulling out gift cards and giving him the totals of each to ring up torwards the purchase and the manager was just like WOW you been saving up for awhile.... Yea like 3 weeks? :D

Wii60S3 FTW! I love fifty cents on the dollar systems. Thanks CAG! :D

I am pretty sure my friend was quoted $9.50 for Rogue Galaxy and $8 for Kameo.

EDIT: Xbox 360 - Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII - Used = $15 trade value at GR i had them make double sure because there are more than one game named similiar. She got shitty and replied she knew how to read and repeated it all back slowly. :D

$27.99 used at EB so it's a no go on flipping. :(
If this was a book, this conversation would be foreshadowing. Someone posted that they got Blazing Angels for 360 for 7 after 30% off at KMart. First time I've seen it mentioned so it might be a YMMV pricing. I know the original xbox version is 7 after 30% off, but I haven't tried the 360 version. If it's true that BA 360 is at the same price of the xbox version, why can't Burnout Revenge 360 be on clearance at 10 like it's xbox counterpart? :bomb: Just a heads up for that last day of trade fodder searching.

Hotwls, where is the GRush in Bakersfield? A friend of mine didn't know of any this summer.

There are three in Bakersfield.

Coffee and Hageman
The Marketplace
Oswell south of 178

There not manned separately anymore, but still considered Blockbuster and Gamerush.
