Well, it depends...if it's a limited edition only available online and as a preorder, then it will probably end up being rare.

I ordered Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin with the pre-order bonus and they didn't even ship it in a box, just a padded envelope. Obviously the DS game was fine but my bonus was crushed on all sides since it was in a flimsy cardboard case. I wouldn't put it past them to use a padded envelope if the Mass Effect LE comes in a tin (thus denting the tin). If it is a cardboard case, we'd be doubly screwed.

I think you'll find that Amazon Prime is worth it, though. I order so much stuff from them now, it's not even funny. I only really go to retail places anymore if their prices beat Amazons during sales, but since you get fast, free shipping with everything, it's easily worth the cash I paid for it.

I think the way Best Buy's pre-order system works is that they count every single pre-order box/DVD they sell, then hold that amount of copies at the register when the game arrives. You bring your receipt in and you get $5 off the game at the counter and take your copy.

Otherwise you can just buy the preorder DVD ( you get charged tax, so don't feel bad about not picking up the preorder when it does come in), then when the game shows up, just don't go get it and keep the pre-order DVD. The extra copies that people don't pick up just go right back on the shelf after a couple days at Best Buy.

On the EBGames and Gamestop website, it now clearly states that you get the bonus disc with either the regular or Limited Edition.

Edit: Ironically the GTZ10 code doesn't work anymore BECAUSE of the bonus disc being included.

So now I have to wonder if it's worth the four bucks or if I should just risk it at Amazon...

Hey for those interested some Gamestops may be offering the edition in there stores. I went to two gamestops and one of them was willing to order the limited edition for the stores but he said it depends if they get a lot of preorders for the limited editions. This deal may be very ymmv depending where u go but in any case other stores should be offering this deal too. Personally I recommend just picking up the regaular edition at Family video for 45.98 with the 5 dollars off coupon. At least this way you can spend the additional 35-40 bucks towards another game u want like say Rock Band of Assasins creed...

I preordered the LE at Amazon and then went to a local BB to pickup the bonus disc. I'll either just cancel the preorder from BB or Amazon. Hopefully BB will get the LE but if they don't I'll just try and get my preorder money back. However the bonus disc is worth $5 (if you want one early). It has some new videos/interviews and of course the 12 gamerpics/2 themes.

fyi, the receipt for the best buy preorder just says 'mass effect preorder', so i'd imagine that after release you should be able to get your money back. that's what i'm planning on doing.

Why are they basically giving you the same bonus material twice with a preorder of the Limited Edition? If you look at the contents on the Microsoft press release, they are basically identical to what you get with the LE disc, although the LE disc actually has more of each thing. I know you can theoretically get the preorder disc a month before the game comes out, but it seems like they didn't really give much thought to what they were doing here.

As part of the Mass Effect going Gold announcement we have confirmed that there will indeed be a Limited Collector's Edition of Mass Effect available at some retailers. There is also a Bonus Disc of content available for pre-order customers.

We now have more news available on which retailers are carrying what and where you can order things. Here it is:

In the US and Canada the Limited Collector's Edition is ONLY available through online orders. It will NOT be sold in stores.

In Europe The Limited Collector's Edition will be sold in stores.

The LCE contains:

They did forget to mention the Mass Effect pre-order disk is at Best Buy; it's what you pay for when you pre-order. The Gamestop's in the St. Louis area say they don't have the pre-order disks, that they come with the game.

From the pictures I've seen of the case, it looks exactly like the Gears one in terms of size and texture.

Not true. The disc just has a bug where the audio won't play at first on that one video. If you exit back to the dashboard and relaunch the disc, that video will then play with it's audio. Annoying, but it works.

The X360 version of AC's LE is goign for around 100+ sealed on eBay and Amazon.

Not to mention BioShock's LE, that is/was pretty rare.

They're different.

The pre-order disk has fewer (2) themes and (4/6?) gamer pics.

The LE bonus disc has 4 themes, and 18 gamer pics.

The LE also has a few songs from the OST and has a TON of art of the game, WITH VOICE COMMENTARY!!! It's pretty much the only part of the LE I like. It's really top-notch quality.

The only similarity they share is the stupid "Upcoming 360 games" section. Both have a demo of Blue Dragon, and trailers for Lost Odyssey/Halo Wars/Halo 3. "Upcoming"... yeah, not quite.

if they say it shipped what they could mean is that the shipping info has been sent to UPS or Fedex and is awaiting pickup so the tracking form may not update instantly.

Best Buy has/had it in B&M stores. Eb/GS had it B&M and online. When I ordered it from Amazon there wasn't any mention of it, and it hasn't arrived yet, so I just paid the $5 for it at BB.

Normally if anything is damaged during shipping, they send you a replacement but in cases like this, in which it's sold out and OOP then you'll just return your money.

And that's exactly why I'm praying my copy isn't damaged but I'm guessing it is.

I received mine from Gamestop and the corner of the metal box was crushed in as well. I opened it up and everything inside it was fine, however it sucks to have a collectable tin case that's damaged. I haven't called customer service either.

I got lucky on my tin and it has no damage, but the cardboard thing that the discs were in is pretty beat up. I'm not sure how that thing an be as messed up as it is without hurting the tin too. It's odd.

Got mine UPS from GS. Either the envelope came open in transit, or they stuck the sticky flap to the game instead of the envelope. So it's sitting on my stoop, wide open. Miraculously everything was still inside. But yes, it was quite dusty from that envelope stuffing.
