It'll be true enough, soon enough.

Microsoft said long ago that depending on the way the format war goes, future models of the 360 might have an integrated HDDVD Drive Or blue ray drive depending on the outcome. Many people, including myself predict that if Microsoft releases a 360 with a built in HD-DVD drive, it will shift the war in their favor and ultimately the 360 will be responsible for helping win the war.

the biggest problem with this is that the current game format is on dvd which could cause problems...also im pretty sure microsoft said that depending on the way the format war goes they could make a blu-ray add-on

$400 Xbox 360 HD-DVD player would definitely even the tide of the war.
The question is: does Microsoft think the battle is worth winning like that?
Also: could HD-DVD hold on long enough for the Xbox 3 to include the format?

It will be a cold day in hell when Microsoft decides to give Sony business for a (soon to be) major piece of their upcoming console.

My guess, no.
They aren't willing to give up console marketshare or even profit for an HD foothold like Sony.
Also: could HD-DVD hold on long enough for the Xbox 3 to include the format?
I'd imagine that the next Xbox will come some time around late 2009-2010 so yeah.

The thing is Microsoft would rather introduce their own HD format.

What?
That makes no sense unless you count digital distribution as a HD format even then it's two completely different things.

what the hell are MS and Sony doing?
just pick a fucking SKU and stick with it. Now I see why people were bitching about multimedia capabilities. The console marketplace is a clusterfuck thanks to various configurations of systems.

This is truth and nothing but.

didn't dreamcast do that with their fucking GD-ROM format?!?!?!
I love the dream cast, but it pisses me off that I can't use the original discs on my dvd rom drive on my computer to play it emulated because of the different laser it uses!
DVD is still a good format that could last another good decade. Remember BR/HD discs only look better BECAUSE they have more space to work with and the company does NOT have to compress the data as much.
Just because a title is in HDDVD/BR doesn't mean it's going to be graphically awesome. Just means they have more room for textures, FMV, and audio.
The loser of this format war is going to loose billions and could kill Sony in the long run if Blue Ray looses this war.
