Greenberg expects it to be a green Christmas for the Xbox business.
“It’s the games that sell the systems and we feel pretty confident in our games lineup,” he says. “Just this one holiday we anticipate that we’ll have at least seven titles that will each sell over a million units each. I don’t think any other platform will even come close to that, so having the big blockbuster games will definitely continue to help drive system sales for us.

Guitar Hero 3, COD4, Assassin's Creed, Smackdown vs. Raw, Lego Star Wars, Mass Effect, Kane and Lynch, Rock Band.. those 8 will sell at least a million

I think they're talking about Naruto being one of those games. I'm curious as to what they define as "holiday season" because if that has officially begun for them already then yeah it's an easy get. If it basically entails Thanksgiving through New Years then it'll be harder especially when you have multiplatform games and a $10 difference in price for the Wii version, which could easily sway gift givers over.

I think most places consider October part of the "Holiday" season now. Heck, Walmart is already starting sales now for the holidays (in the business section a few weeks back of the USA.today).
I would just wonder if it would stretch further. Are they including Madden in this projection? I don't trust business people. If you say 7, name which 7 they are thinking of. They won't do it publically, but I'd love to see if this is a legitimate statement or more business b.s.

Are they talking about 7 games reaching to a million sold during the holidays or 7 selling one million during the holiday time?

I would imagine they mean 7 different titles selling over 1 million units each during the Holiday 'season', whenever that is.
This claim doesnt seem that boastful. I can see Halo 3 selling another million or more by the end of the year, and lots of those other games look to be huge as well.
Of course they will probably count Forza 2 and Marvel in there if they sell a million of those bundled 360's. Thats how MYST became the greatest selling PC game of all time. There was a period of about 6-7 years where you couldnt buy a PC that didnt come with a copy of it. ;)

Would Bioshock count as a Holiday game?

If it sells a million copies in the holiday window then I think it would.
It depends on what Greenberg meant. 7 titles selling over a million each in the window, or 7 new titles, released in that holiday window, selling over a million each. I think he meant the former, as its an easier goal to reach.

There are roughly 7.5 million 360 consoles sold in the States. So basically what they're saying is that every single Xbox owner who has a console will buy 2 of those 7 specific games. I call bullshit. Their list must be compiled of multiplatform games.

I'd add Orange Box to that list for sure.
I remember reading that Greenberg, or some other MS suit, mentioned Naruto as being a million seller. So I think thats one of the 'Magnificent Seven'.

is naruto really that big? And wwe vs raw or whatever. Kinda crazy.

lol Assassin's Creed...I just don't have high hopes for it. Videos don't look that great and the Ubi hype wagon is no where in sight, which makes me think they're not too confident in it (considering it has had "spurts" of hype, but they've died off.)

Personally I find Naruto to be beyond annoying, but it is HUGE. Like Dragonball Z huge. And I think this is the first Naruto game you can play online, so the game will sell on that fact alone, even to kids who already have the 25 other PS2 and Gamecube Naruto games. BELIEVE IT!
Those (imo HORRIBLE) Smackdown games always sell well.

Im still getting it day one for ps3. It still looks pretty unique to me, but that might just because becuase im so tired of sequels that our industry loves to dump out on us.

I'm fairly certain he means that 7 titles will be released in the holiday season that will EVENTUALLY sell 1 million each, not 1 million each in the holiday season alone.

Each console will have to buy 1 game with a few not buying any.
I still say that's absurd, unless the window is from September to March.

The kind of math I am doing is referred to in certain circles as "crazy math" or perhaps even "poor math" but that is for history to decide, not you. But for now I concede. You are correct.

Well if they are counting holiday sales from August/Sept. till Dec 31st I can see eight titles that will do a mil especially if It's multi country
1) Halo 3 (duh)
2) The Orange Box
3) Madden 08
4) Bioshock
5) Lego Starwars Complete Triology
6) Call of Duty 4
7) Mass Effect
8) Guitar Hero 3
Wild Cards: Assassin's Creed (depending on reviews and retail hype), Scene-It (LMAO), Need for Speed Pro Street (need for speed sometimes sells a insane amount in short periods of time, 4) PGR4 (Not sure on this though, VGChartz says only about 100kish by next week), Skate (yeah It's early but this is selling extremely well)
